Big Update for this most recent announcement:
Bloodbraid Elf and Seething Song are banned.
Banned List Discussion outside of this thread is Prohibited and will be Infracted!
To summarize Wizards' position, they feel they have banned cards that give decks the ability to either win or be in a controlling position by turn 3.
These cards fall in that list:
Ancient Den
Blazing Shoal
Chrome Mox
Dark Depths
Dread Return
Glimpse of Nature
Golgari Grave-Troll
Great Furnace
Hypergenesis
Seat of the Synod
Sword of the Meek
Tree of Tales
Vault of Whispers
The other main category of cards exist because they make decks too consistant/reliable and thus hamper the deck diversity of the metagame. I think these cards are the best candidates for an unbanning.
Ancestral Vision
Bitterblossom
Cloudpost
Green Sun's Zenith
Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Mental Misstep
Ponder
Preordain
Punishing Fire
Rite of Flame
Stoneforge Mystic
Umezawa's Jitte
Then there are cards which wizards currently feels were mistakes or were never really tested in eternal formats.
Skullclamp
Sensei's Divining Top
I realize Jace/Stoneforge could possibly be here depending on your point of view.
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I knew BBE was going to banned but am very surprised to see Seething Song get the axe. Maybe there is some powerful storm card coming out in a future set? I just don't know, I don't think Storm was really all that good in Modern. It was viable but far from dominant.
Seething Song is a surprise and an upset for me, there are so many good combos besides storm that need that heavy acceleration (Through the Breach).
If storm is a bad deck, just do like they did in Pauper and kill the storm cards.

So, is Storm even a deck anymore? I don't think it can work without Seething Song. This probably does more to kill the deck than banning grapeshot would.

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
I got to say... These bans are aweful... Modern was just coming out of its "Were not banning the top decks of the format" thing... now this just sets it so far back. it was a perfect chance for unbans. And it didnt happen.

And Good bye, Zoo ;_;
Seething Song enabled turn 3 wins for storm decks, as was said in the article.
I called BBE's banning (yay)
Wanted an AV unban though :/.
Very disappointed.

It doesn't kill storm, but it certainly hurts it, to this I don't understand the ban
BBE is expected, more concerned on the Pauper banning

My guess would be that something in dragon's maze puts storm over the top. Their explanations were fairly odd.

I hate the reserved list.
Mythic rares are fine.
The zoo in me just got really upset too.
"The top two decks are Jund and Storm so we banned a card from each of them. Whee"
