I'm actually surprised prices of Martyr Proc on paper hasn't jumped that much lately.
A lot of places still have Proclamation of Rebirth listed at $1.50 but are completely sold out and CFB are still rocking a ton of Serra Ascendant's at $2 a piece(though just about everywhere else has it listed at $3.50)
Meanwhile Proc on MTGO skyrocketed from a .5?ish ticket card to a 5-6 ticket card, seemingly overnight.
Either way, the deck seems to be getting a ton of attention lately by just about everyone but the people who write articles, which is probably why paper prices haven't gone up that much.
it is just the flavor of the week. I don't believe it has the power level to contend at least not for long.

I'm not so sure. And honestly, the Quest for the Holy Relic Soul Sisters variant is the "flavor of the week" deck, Martyr Proc treads on some pretty solid ground with just how much inevitability the deck has.
So far I've noticed that pretty much the only "legit" strategies that beat it is Ioana(this isn't even guaranteed - mostly depends on what all is binned), big mana(basically Emrakul), and Slaverlock/Melira/Twin on game 1. Anything else that beats it just isn't competitive enough.
Especially if it's starting to win now on MTGO, where Teachings is really taking hold.
I mean, the decks matchup is like, 90-10 to Zoo/Affinity, 40-60~ to Teachings/Gifts, 30-70~ish to 40-60 against a lot of combo and depending on how you build your sideboard could be 80-20 to the mirror.
The numbers for the deck is pretty good all around. If I were to guess, Proc is gonna shoot up a chunk in price just because DIS suffers from third set syndrome. A certain mythic might shoot up, too.
Well, ok, the deck as it stands now might not be what becomes popular. Life-gain seems pretty valid in this format though, it's just not exactly that explored outside of the obvious so far.

Life gain is too narrow. Control decks and some combo decks still own the deck. Zoo is going to be just powerful with banning so this deck might stay as a tier 3 deck for a while until they decide to ban more zoo stuff or unban stuff.

UR Storm wins (name that deck right, dang it), while two Martyr Procs, a Living End, two Rakdos Deck Wins (Burn/RDW with a black splash for Bump in the Night and Bob), and a BUG Gifts Control/Rock deck get close.
Hive Mind wins, while Living End, kaOz.Zeh's Counter-Cat Zoo, UW Tron, and an interesting Dredgevine list get close. Bloodbraid Elf is a particularly funny--and good--choice in the Dredgevine list, as two creatures spells in a turn are almost bound to occur whenever you cast BBE in this deck.
UR Storm wins again (different pilot), while 5cc Cruel Control, Zoo (Big and Punishing--we won't see any more of this tomorrow), Dimir Teachings, and an interesting UW Tokens Polymorph deck get close. (I personally believe the Tokens Aggro shell is the strongest shell for Polymorph I've seen in a long while.)
Esper Reanimator Gifts wins (being able to hardcast some of the reanimation targets is good), while UW Tempo-Control (runs walls and board wipes main--I'd almost call it UW Control), Martyr Proc, and Tribal Blue Zoo get close, and Exarch Twin finally shows up.
UR Storm and UW Tempo-Control win, while Red Affinity, Living End, Boom/Bust Zoo, Melira Pod, and Martyr Proc get close. This also contains a record of two rogue decks--Boros (well, White Weenie with burn) and RUG Tempo Thresh (remember that deck in Worlds?).
December 2011 Pre-Dec. 20 Bans Modern Daily Analysis below, and I hope I didn't miscount or miss anything:
That Dredgevine list is spicy. Not saying it is great or anything, but a quick 20-proxy version of it shows it is fun to play (vomiting out BBE + Ruinator + 2 Vengevines on t4-5? yes please), if a tad inconsistent.

Maybe we will start getting standard size events so that we have plenty of list for the comparisons.

There probably wasnt any Twin decks because 1: People are bored of playing them, and 2: People are ready for that match up. I dont know how much things are really going to change with the new ban. Maybe Elves will start showing up again with the absence of Punishing Fire, but that is really about it.

I have been messing around with an elf deck. Punishing fire alone wasn't that big of a deal. It is only bad when the start with both pieces, but even then they still need 1-2 other removal spells before they can even get it online.

I can update the whole OP with all of the daily events and some of lectyrs analysis starting later today. I have had to work late every night to get ready for my long vacation.

Esper Reanimator Gifts (more than one reanimation target is good) wins, while Shamans (it's baaaaack! Oh, how I missed it!), UR Storm, Melira Pod, another Esper Reanimator Gifts (discard-heavy), Red Affinity, Counter-Cat Zoo (the new cat is Loam Lion), and a rather control-heavy Exarch Twin (Consecrated Sphinx? Sea Gate Oracle?!? At least Splinter Twin has more targets, but I'd rather play Fae Twin) get close.
UR Storm (a conventional enough list) wins, while Melira Pod, Death and Taxes, Shamans, Exarch Twin, Combo Elves (whaddya mean, no Emrakul?), and a rather unconventional UR Storm list (now with more artifacts, Locket of Yesterdays, and Thirst for Knowledge!) get close.
Here's the new, constantly updating post-Dec. 20 bans Modern Daily Analysis! Now without pilots with 2+ appearances, as there will be far too many of them by the time the next set of bans rolls around.
