I feel liek the source gives a much better impression of the tier one decks in the legacy meta than our forum does in its proven section. Tier 1 is the proven high performing decks, decks floating around the top 16 at every major.
I'm not having a go, calling them proven and established works fine, but just remember that most of the community would agree with the Jund, Twin, Pod and affinity definition of tier 1. I'd almost put scapeshift in there too, but the tier 1 is the elite decks. Tier 1.5 is the more flash in the pan places every now and then decks.
Most of the community might agree with that, but the criteria for Proven is more flexible.
and thas why our subs arent called "tier 1 and 2". To avoid stuff like this. We have real data to back our groupings, but we make no claims to set what is what. We only group them by our diffenitions to say they are real decks in the modern meta you need to be aware of.
Also, this is most diffently not the place to talk about our sorting standards. Keep it on topic.
Is this the thread to discuss the SCG Sunday Modern Premier IQ?
I know there' not much to discuss yet since we can't see anything, but I believe we will be able to see deck lists later on. Also I was curious as to if someone can play in both the Legacy and the Modern at the same time. There is a player who has 15 pts. (5-0) in Legacy right now while having 12 pts. (4-1) in Modern. Maybe he is playing both events and playing a fast deck? Maybe he got his first loss in Modern because he got a match loss for coming too late? If you look at the standings after Round 5 in each event, you will see the name that I am talking about.
I guess I was seeing things. Now I don't see his name in the Legacy Open lists.
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
So it turns out that I should've taken a deck with hand disruption in it.
Went 0-4. Meta looked diverse initially but my pairings were utter garbage IMO
>UWR Control: absolutely nothing happens (or is allowed to happen) until he durdles long enough to out-burn me, then tries to Batterskull me game 2.
>Splinter Twin: durdle until combo. What else is new? I wish I could play Enlightened Tutor...
>Splinter Twin again: turns out durdling to the combo is the right thing for them to do. Either that or the pilot wasn't exactly that good, since the fair fight was definitely going in my favor.
>weird janky half Burn half Gruul Beats: I blame this one on being just totally dumbfounded by what the deck is. I mean, from maindeck Domris to Vexing Devils recurred with Postmortem Lunge the damn thing just made no sense!
Considering I saw Twin twice going down the losers' side I can only assume people were successfully hating it out on another front, but man was it not good for me.
Attendance was pretty decent though, so between this and GPRich I think SCG's been given a good idea as to how big a market there is for supporting Modern.

What deck were you playing?
Oh, the usual Boros sligh list.
Oh ok. Yeah I can see how those matchups sucked for you then.
Well you know what the they say. It's the taking part that counts.

The bad part is that I just didn't see any of my relevant sideboard tech.
Well, ok that's a bit of a lie, singleton Combust pulled its weight in forcing the Twin players to Clique through it and any Paths I started hoarding as soon as I could call Twin on them.
But Blood Moon (for UWR) and Torpor Orb (TWIIIIIIN) getting lost in my postboard 60? That's what bites.
But hey, I took down an Ajani Vengeant with Boros Charm and went 1-2 on the last two games so it's not like I didn't get to play some amount of relevant Magic in the end. Just that I played too fairly and got stuck in a rut of relatively unfair loser bracket decks.
So when SCG said they were going to support Modern I assumed they would stream... something. Apparently we are not going to see any Modern today? This totally sucks.

I think that SCG can still make more money by pushing Legacy. Legacy streaming is probably the only decent Legacy streaming one can see. This gets people to buy new cards as they see the flavor of the week or the consistent deck do well on camera. SCG has a lot to lose if Legacy attendance goes down. They basically just want the Modern staples sales in addition to what they already have. This is a good way to supplement their profits and see them increase by a decent percentage. They may slowly show a little bit of Modern, but I doubt they will completely do away with Legacy. They have made to much and will continue to do so to turn back.

They were pretty clear about the fact that the Open would still get the video coverage, not the Premier IQ. They don't cover IQ's, just like they didn't cover Classics when those were a thing.
Interesting. 4 pod decks in the top 16, with only 1 twin deck. 2 aggro decks in top 8!! infect and affinity!! 2 UWR decks in top 16. seems pretty good for the first event, even if it was only 200 players.
Melira Pod won. Here's my shocked face That being said the top 8 is probably the most diverse I've ever seen. No duplicate decks and even UW Tron managed to do work. Looks like fun times.
Melira Pod 1st James Pogue
Affinity 2nd Pieter Tubergen
4-Color Birthing Pod 3rd Jimmy Tessitore

Karn ditched mirrioden in the lore. He was like, i need to see whats changed in the world. See ya koth and elspeth. Then they were like "really?!" And an oblivator showed up and koth told elapeth to peice and made a huge bomb blow up after the thing took a chunk out of elspetha body.

some more info:
attendance was low 200 (like around 205). there were 8 rounds.
This almost certainly needed to be streamed. Likely more variety than the top 8 of of Standard and Legacy combined.
Low is relative.
Legacy was like the upper half of the 300somethings.
The place was pretty well filled out.
Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiists.
mmm i understand that he was saying "in the lower part of the 2XY numbers", not that the number itself was low
