1. Unless I see more objection (reception has been largely positive), I'm going to start adding all the large paper events to the dataset. It might skew the numbers a bit, given that smaller events with more insular metagames might be included, but overall I think it's worth it so the large paper data more closely aligns with the MTGO data.
2. I'm happy that Wizards will be pushing aggro more. Aggro is in sorry shape for Modern right now, where it's really just Affinity and Burn with a few other stragglers hanging on for dear life (Merfolk, Zoo variants, BW Tokens, etc.). I could definitely see a push to make Goblins more viable, especially given the printing of Goblin Rabblemaster.
I still will never understand why Merfolk have more two drop lords then Goblins. I think that alone would really help the goblin decks out there. And while I really didnt think the Piledriver needed fixed, the rabblemaster is still nice.
Also I like the idea of adding small paper events, as it lets you know what some of the more casual/unskilled/new/in it for fun modern players enjoy.

yeah that never made sence to me either, since blue aint the creature color pie (green) and it aint about the cheapest spells (red) Seems like goblins should have a 2 cmc one that isnt amazing. Well they do in legacy

Because waaaaaaay back when, Lord of Atlantis cost UU and Goblin King cost 1RR. I don't know why they did that, but I'm going to guess the fact there were two Goblin cards and one Merfolk card probably made them think Goblin King was better and needed to cost more. The other 2-drop Lord, Master of the Pearl Trident, probably came from them wanting to bring back something like Lord of Atlantis (a straight up +1/+1 island walk Lord, not one like Merrow Reejerey or Merfolk Sovereign where it's +1/+1 and some other ability) but not wanting to make one that's basically just a worse Lord of Atlantis by costing it at the more normal 3 mana for Lords.

The real question is how would making a 2 mana 2/2 Goblin lord break anything. Even if it just gave +1/+1 to all other Goblins is would be good enough. And we have seen that they don't have any problems with doing that for Slivers or Merfolk. So why not for the other tribes like Goblins, Elves, Zombies, and Humans?

I would love a good Zombie lord, turn three tends to be to late in my experiences. I have at least two of every modern lord, and yet I haven't be able to make a decent modern legal (or even legacy legal) deck. On the subject of Zombies, I was really disappointed when Unholy Grotto didn't get a reprint in Innistrad. Would have been perfect!
Actually, what I think we really need (other than the iconic tribes that need lords like elves, goblins, humans, and zombies), is a 2 mana vampire lord. There are plenty of strong vampires in the format. They just need some cheaper support.

I hadn't really even thought about vamps to be honest. A 2cmc would be fantastic for them, it doesn't even need to give and thing more than +1/+1 and it would make the deck a lot better. Make it BR at 2/2 and be done with it.
When was the last time Control got a non-creature Modern playable that was efficiently costed? They've been dialing this down since Rise of Eldrazi, and ratcheting creature power levels.
Keranos. Yeah, I know he's technically a creature, but the control decks that play him in Modern are basically never going to have him turn into a creature. But if you want to really be strict about it, then Sphinx's Revelation/Supreme Verdict.
I like tribal decks, but I think I'd like a modern tribe like legacy goblins, synergies beyond just pumps on bodies--I think having merfolk be almost t1 in the format is enough.

I just don't see any other way to help aggro without helping out midrange, combo, or control (though many will argue that control needs help as well.) They need to print narrow creatures that help aggro and nothing else so that Jund or URW gets no further push. That's just my personal opinion of course.
I also don't think reprints are nessessarily the answer, if you want legacy ports, I'd just rather start playing legacy. Then again...Legacy doesn't have competitive anything except elves, merfolk is the classic budget entry to the format, and goblins has just fallen too far behind to be viable anymore by all counts.
I would love a card that was something like a tribal 'devotion' version of genesis wave. A spell for three that counted the # X ogoblins in play and milled X goblins, putting them into play with haste. On a decent curve out you could probably get 7 or so 1/1 or 2/1 goblins into play before you get blown out by anger of the gods!
Devotion is just, in my opinion, the best recent keyword/ability. A return to Lorwyn would boost devotion due to the abundance of hybrid mana costs. Some cards like Juzam Djinn, but up the upkeep damage maybe? The hardest part about aggro creatures is keeping them from improving midrange I think. I know a few people who really enjoy aggro, but dislike Affinity. There should really be a home for those players in Modern.
At least in the coming years there is a high probability on a Return to Lorwyn, so hopefully there we get some tools (perhaps your devotion). And I have to say that Cavern of Souls was a really useful tribal tool that was more or less recent. There are some non-Merfolk, non-Faeries tribal decks around, but they are just not there yet.
Why do you think there's a "high probability" of a return to an unpopular plane?

What meter are you using to define an unpopular plane? Most feel Theros is low power and a bad set, yet Maro mentioned in his state of the game article that Theros sold quite well.
I could see them giving Lorwyn another shot in a return set. When is the question.

The meter I use is the fact members of R&D have stated that it was one of the least popular planes.

I'll be honest I didn't believe you until I googled it. It's strange, I wasn't playing during that period, but everyone I've talked to enjoyed Lorwyn. And they didn't all play fairies.

But are they judging that by the feed back of the player base at the time? the sales figures? was it hard for them to design?
R&D states a lot of things, there has to be context to what they are saying.
Seriously? That's really sad because the last time I really enjoyed Standard was during Lorwyn. At first, I didn't like all of the tribal cards, but at the end, I was not even close to being ready for it to rotate. I actually wanted to play more.

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
After I realized that I specified a 2/2. A 1/1 lord just isn't that great in aggro strategies compared to a 2/2 lord.
