What the what?! Can someone explain to a modern newb like me why Birthing Pod gets the banhammer? It's not that broken is it? Also, why did Dig get banned? It's a totally different card than Cruise.
Wow. That's unfortunate. They chose to go backwards...

Delver no longer have cruise and Dig, along with all the combo decks losing dig. Scapeshift is always "stable"-ish, dig helped them get the combo pieces faster.
For PoD:
It was not broken, it was borderline consistent. It will always have a long shelf life due to creature's. You can't have a game without using creatures to win. PoD just makes it borderline to make sure it looks like it is fair. But it was T1 with a high win rate thanks to adapting by shifting 3-4 creatures AT MOST, and the rest of the shell was intact.
For Delver:
They think delver would just play 4 dig and call it a day, replacing cruise. They think UU was no different from U1 when you can just play a cruise for that much mana. U1 for 3, UU for look for 7 + get 2 cards to help you win the game. They put no distinction, since delver would just play cruise for U3- U4 as well.
I still wish BBE was unbanned, but it gives me time to get 4 FNM BBEs.
I'm very very sad as I spent God knows how much on my foil Pod deck recently and now it is worthless.
I don't think it needed a ban, but cards should not be left unbanned simply because they cost money. If it is breaking the format it is breaking the format.

Pod had a large meta percentage and kept winning tournaments. Dig Through Time's ban puzzles me.
Alright I guess I'll eat my hat, they unbanned GGT. I really thought they were just afraid of modern dredge forever.
Surprised at the birthing pod ban, but I guess they found it hard to convince themselves to ban cruise and dig without hitting pod since pod could at least hang - if not have an edge.
Okay, they suck. So they're just going to ban out the strongest decks/cards in the format, for no real reason? There was nothing oppressive going on anywhere, but hey, let's cut the top cards just for the hell of it.
It's not even that I care about any of those cards or decks. It's just the completely wrong attitude to have. They should aim to not ban as long as it's possible, but they're just wielding the ban-hammer like a child waving a stick around and hitting whatever it hits. Dig Through Time, seriously? The card wasn't even played much. Let's just ban cards before they have a chance to even affect the format.
Well, I always thought 95% of the posts in the banlist thread were silly, but now, I don't know anymore. Suggestions like banning Kitchen Finks, Abrupt Decay or Gitaxian Probe aren't so ridiculous anymore. Anything is on the table, let's have another four months of the wildest speculation 'cause who knows what gets banned next.
You really just need to embrace the rage. I keep a small colony of hamsters next to my computer and every time I lose a match to mana screw I throw one against the wall.
Wow... I think my aristocats deck is actually legit now. If the meta is all BGx decks it will smash them. Twin might be a bit hard but now pod is gone and Affinity is fair enough matchup.

Bring back Transmute as a U/B mechanic and take your mill back to the depths of hell where it came from!
Yeah, that's horrible. Not only ban the two cards that are (arguably) a problem, but we're also going to accept the fear mongering "logic" and ban Dig, a spell that has not done anything except power up the one archetype in the format that most needed it. Control decks and slower combo decks were the only decks playing Dig, and you dumb m***********rs decided to ban the only good card those decks have gotten in years? What is wrong with you? Modern might have had a chance to grow out of the ban list mania where we get this reaction every time a legitimately good card hits the format and then you decided that what we needed was more cards banned from the archetype that was already the worst one in the format? Control doesn't exist, and this is only going to mean its not going to exist for several more sets.
And even if you did let a good card slip through, it has at least even odds of getting banned if its not a creature apparently.
Didn't you also say that Bloodbraid Elf would be unbanned. Also, can you please change your sig now that Pod is banned?
No, this reverts Modern to a BGx dominated format.

Yeah, good to see Wizard are going to keep modern healthy!
Still Delver still got an upgrade with Swiftspear and is now a fair deck again.
Also super happy GGT is off the list, it really had no reason to be on it!
Dang. I know those feels and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my Pod deck, goyf is now a must to play green...

I actually said, specifically, that BBE was not getting unbanned with the current state of control.
I did not expect WotC to bring a gun to a knife-fight
I just LOVE it when a format gets shaken up like that.
