Chapin has innovated himself to an 0-2 finish against Affinity.
Wiegersma on UR Twin
Maguire on UWR Control (maybe Midrange; I would never trust these commentators to know the difference)
Yeah why would Chapin play a deck with a bad Affinity matchup? Leads me to think he just didn't draw Stony Silences or something.
And definitely Midrange, I think Blade Splicer is a midrange mark.
Surprising absolutely no one, the deck is Midrange and not Control as the commentators classified it.
I am also stunned that Chapin picked a deck with a bad Affinity matchup. Who was it that said not to play decks that lose to the format's aggro decks? Chapin should have listened to that.
He might have just had really terrible draws. The part of one game I saw looked like he flooded really badly.

Okay I take it back, it has to be control. He's playing Jace's Ingenuity. What the hell? It seems so bad.

Its not, instant speed draw in modern that is good is few and far between. It actually might be the best midgame instant speed draw in the formtat which is absurd.

This is the first time I've attempted to follow a pro tour while it's happening, so bear with me here.
Are decklists released/announced yet?
Is there a breakdown of what decks are being play, and their win/loss percentages?
What breakout deck/card really took you guys by surprise?
Is it too early to answer any of my dumb questions yet?
It doesn't necessarily have to be classified as control or midrange - quite a few lists fall somewhere in the middle - with the most "controlling" lists running only snapcaster and a clique or two, and the most "midrangey" lists running full geists, splicers, restos, thundermaws in main or side, etc.

This is a format where we can't afford to play Think Twice because it's too slow of a card. Think Twice is considerably faster than Jace's Ingenuity. The problem is never control mirrors and drawing cards, it's aggro/midrange and having the correct answers. It's a card that, sure, draws you the most cards, but also does nothing until 5 mana at the earliest. If you want to be drawing cards early, there are options like Remand, Wall of Omens, and Think Twice. They're all 2-drops and all drawing cards very early for you. If you want to draw cards late game, Sphinx's Rev seems better. The only justification for Jace's Ingenuity is that it draws the most for the least mana in a single card, so you do better against blue control if you want to guarantee it, but I don't think you would expect many control mirrors given how bad control is in the format.
you expected commentators to have a clue about what's going on? Zac Hill (I think) is the voice on the feature match coverage spewing incorrect statement after incorrect statement.
This Pro Tour is easily the worst commentary I've ever seen. A new low for Wizards. I suspect that they disabled their Twitch stream chat because all the chat would be is an endless bashing of the commentators' mistakes. If things don't pick up then I'm done watching PT coverage and going exclusively to SCG's events. Wizards can't find two or three top MTG players that aren't qualified for this PT to do some commentary? They have people who clearly don't even play Modern cover a Modern event? What a pathetic decision.
I don't think any one is as bad as Rashad Miller. I'd rather just have Randy commentate everything and do the deck techs. Fire the rest of the commentating staff and just pay Randy 5x.
They can't fire anyone for at least this year because they are all under contract. But they should instead just hire new commentators and pay the current ones their fee but NEVER put them near a camera or microphone. This coverage makes Modern look like a horrible and not interesting format. It is painful to watch this PT.

They should have Frank Lepore do it, since he has nothing better to do not being able to compete in tourneys now. His modern vids were/are always fun.
I tend to make that Goyf-shrinking mistake every time I play Junk with Tasigur. "I don't want my opponent giving me back lategame chaff like Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek, lemme delve them away!"

Well no, it wasn't a punt because his opponent could've activated Colonnade to block Goyf and exile Tasigur with Purge to shrink the Elemental token down to a 2/2.
I noticed that every junk deck they've shown so far has no dark confidant. It seems like the new way to grind people out is with pure value cards rather than card advantage.
Dark confidant is better against the combo decks, but against control and other aggro/midrange, Tasigur kinda does the same thing, slower but with a bigger body.
If infect/amulet/twin make up alot of the good decks, dark confidant decks will do better since tasigur is too slow against those
So, what the heck. Ian Duke said there are those people taking Modern into consideration in Wotc's office.
AF said they don't test for Modern.
What exactly those people taking Modern into consideration actually do? Discuss possible Bans? Analyzing cards which they do not test, but have found their way into modern, and see where the ship stirs?
Some clarity would be nice.
They talk about Modern and see if they're obviously breaking any decks, they also discuss reprints. They don't have the resources to devote much testing to Modern though.
