Brainstorm itself nearly helps makes every blue deck play out consistently
Definitely some good in that, in that you're playing a game of less variance and more skill/decesion tree's.
When I'm not playing Jund, I pretty much accept nearly any deck I play will have some huge polarizing decks, I would just like to not have more than three 30/70 match ups for the popular matchups.
If you bought into ET, you do - Affinity, D&T, Humans.
I am deeply ambivalent about this and somewhat worried. I hope some enterprising soul in this thread seeks out clarification on this major change from the powers that be. I'm really nervous this will lead to more shakeup bans.
Then again, this is a testament to Modern popularity. Go Modern!
Wow, another change on their stance, I will inquire on this.

I understand why people would be worried (shake up bans), but I think it is a net positive overall. Modern has been outclassing standard viewership, so it makes sense that they would want as many people as possible to tune into the Pro Tour. I disliked when they decided to get rid of the modern pro tour, so I am pretty happy to see it back in the mix. It also makes PPTQs more interesting to me again since I could play the format I enjoy and have it potentially lead to playing the format on a bigger stage (I don't grind PPTQs outside of modern season, also I'd say this is a very fringe benefit since the likelihood of making it that far is slim).

This is really funny to me since I told local players it would happen. (although I was wrong on the timing) Wizards is such a fickle company. At a local PPTQ, I mentioned that Wizards said they weren't going to do Modern PPTQs anymore (and here we were) and someone started to get really technical on what they said, so I just stopped the conversation. I personally was upset about it since I haven't won a PPTQ since Modern ones, where I won 3 of them for the 3 seasons.
Overall, I am super glad that this is back. I don't see it as Pros breaking decks and cards needing bannings. Perhaps some decks could even be opened up by unbannings, but I'm not holding my breath. I think this is certainly an overall plus for Modern players like myself. (Although I've noticed something recently in Standard that it's not bad after these bannings and the competition is easier. Despite multiple cards of mine being banned, I may actually start playing Standard, even outside of the odd PPTQ here or there.)
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)

I'm with you all the way. Having a Pro-Tour for Modern every 2-3 years is A-ok with me, even if it breaks the format. Modern needs to be exposed every so often so we can see if there is something degenerate lurking in the shadows somewhere.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.

I guess that means it's time to prepare for the return of our yearly "ban the best deck" cycle...
Maybe if they made the core tournament games not 1 v 1 then that would allow for more diversity.
Being forced to play the meta or lose just isn't fun.
The meta is like two dozen decks! Plus another dozen or two you can play on the fringe! It would take months to play modern events that were virtually identical to a previous one, as opposed to standard that tends to have 3-4 decks at the top and 2-3 fringe picks. What more do you want?
Given Modern's return to the Pro Tour, it seems very unlikely that we will be seeing any unbans in the future.
Modern was discontinued as a promotional tour format because the cards in the new set didn't get enough screen time during the promotional tour. This was stated explicitly by WotC. By bringing it back, they must have discussed this thoroughly. An obvious difficulty of new sets seeing play during modern events is that the card quality required to see play is very high, which unbans would only exacerbate.
From my perspective, this move makes unbans extremely unlikely.
Overall negative news in my eyes, even if I'll still love to watch to coverage.
It would be nice if they used a new pro-tour to do a "shakeup unban".
Unleash Stoneforge Mystic back into the wild to see how it affects the meta in a PT? Maybe that's just a dream though...
And then end up re-banning it after the pro tour shows how busted it is, which is what would happen.
Yeah cause spending 4 mana over 2 turns to get a 4/4 vigilence lifelink into play turn 3 is so much better than what other decks are doing, like casting 2 mana 8/8s or turn 2 TKS, etc.
I'm doubting SFM will ever get unbanned, but if it ever did, there would be many players with egg on their face as SFM ends up being barely playable in the format. This is the Ancestral Vision/ Bitterblossom/ Wild Nacatl situation all over again. Yes it would see play, not it isn't better than what other decks are doing.

Wait, are you implying SFM is busted? lol
I'm implying the pros would find a way to bust it, especially if it's unbanned right before the pro-tour where there would be little time to test against it. With WotC having a hair trigger on the banhammer, SFM would just end up banned right after the pro-tour and we'd have to endure the endless irritating chanting of SFM! SFM! SFM! like we do now.

Bye Bye death's shadow. Bye Bye Eldrazi Temple. Maybe even Mox Opal will go
Yep, no PT is worth ruining the format like that. Everyone should consider going to twitter to pressure WotC into not making moves like that. Defend modern from the wolves!

Interesting idea, but I feel like I would rather just see what the pros do with the current meta that everyone else is playing. While I'm all for a trial SFM unban, I'd just do it in August and see what happens. As long as they put it out there as a trial, there is no egg on their face if the re-ban because they said it was a trial.
They should not unban anything specific for the Pro Tour, because with how they now hide data that WOULD give Pro's an inside edge they dont need.
They SHOULD unban SFM and a number of other cards because its an answerable card that does not apply pressure in a new way.
We already kill 2cmc creatures like they are nothing. Hey Goyf hows it feeling?
We already kill artifacts like its going out of style. See > Any deck hoping to fight Affinity or Lantern, or a Chalice.
SFM doesnt add sideboard strain, doesnt attack from a new vector, and..dies.
I thought the whole point of removing Modern from the PT was to open the space up for a wave of unbans? But they have had zero cards released since their pathetic apologytour after Eldrazi Winter (and actually two more banned instead...).
I imagine this will only inevitably lead to more shake up bans and more stupid pushed Standard cards that knowingly break older formats (ala Eldrazi) so that the Pro Tour can both remain "exciting" and "feature cards in the new set". I don't see how this is at all a good thing.

Well, zero cards other than the two they released in the Ancestral Vision and Sword of the Meek. But yes, I agree with the basic premise that WotC has had plenty of time to do some more unbans and chose not to.

Well as it stands, a 1 time a year event is already going to look 'different' from the Standard malaise. My brother actually hit me up out of the blue (we live in different provinces) and said he's playing Magic again, but not Standard as the 'sets suck'.
Modern has CONSISTENTLY been the highest viewed format, so you want eyes? You put on Modern.
Thats probably just willful denial on my part, but I dont see a need for shake up bans for a once a year purpose.
We want to watch MODERN, not whatever cockeyed pushed Standard/Modern vision Wizards holds. I also note, that its not a pure Modern PT, its got Draft stapled to it zzzzzz.
The problem with SFM is not that the card itself is broken. The problem is that it is only really good against other fair decks. Its inclusion would easily lead to a reduced diversity of fair decks, and the meta would descend to "SFM fair decks vs unfair decks vs "fair" decks."
Sure, Affinity, Storm and Dredge seem more degenerate than SFM decks, and I don't disagree. The problem is SFM pushes out more fair interactive decks than linear ones. FFS, did you all buy fifty copies and are pushing for a spike? What is the fascination with this one card being reintroduced into a format with a ton of diversity?

I didn't see the need either. Yet here we are with decks that have been banned when they were banned. If the PT were held next month I would not be surprised in the least bit to see Temple and Shadow banned.

Don't worry, most viewers usually don't watch the draft portion anyway, even though it MASSIVELY SKEWS the placement of decks and players in the Top 8.
