Over the past few years, MTGSalvation has become very much my home and most of that is due to the community like the Modern community. It has been an honor and a privilege to talk magic, modern ban list philosophy even with the chaos that can ensue and even more the deck brewing and philosophy with you all. On behalf of the staff past and present thank you all so much for helping us create this wonderful community.
But Im not just getting sappy in this post, there is more.
As Feyd mentioned in the article, we are working on a new home for anyone that wishes to follow us on that journey. It is still very much a work in progress, but our goal is to make our new home even more of a community site than what we have now. Beyond that, I can't say much just yet, but as we get closer I'll keep everyone informed in this thread.
If you have any questions or better yet, have any input on things you would like to see then please feel free to post in this thread and we will respond to the best of our abilities.
The only thing I hope for, is this same format of forum. Not like Reddit, or other sites, but a nice traditional forum.
Very much thirded,I really want mtgs's successor to be a traditional forum. The nowadays more common formats like reddit and discord just aren't good at holding long, more in-depth discussions with.
Nothing lasts forever.. well, glad to have been a part of this nice forum.
And in case we don't see each other again. --- to people I've talked to.. casually chatting about new cards, friendly debates, discussing prices, and those who helped me with rules questions. Glad to have encountered you all here in this place.
This forum is much better than reddit, and I hope a new place will be built as a new home. Will follow.
Having spent several years and several thousand posts here, this makes me very sad. I will happily migrate to a new location, so long as it is a traditional forum style and contains sections for Modern.
I don't mind reddit, but for the most part, I can't stand its branch comment system. It buries anything other than the clickbait trolly stuff that gets upvoted and spammed.
yeah this definitely disappointing, though im grateful for years of service from everyone in the background supporting this site through thick and thin.
something being in the works to carry on the soul of mtgsalv is heartening, and i would definitely join when and if it ever comes to fruition. as others mentioned a base of a traditionally styled forum would be great, and it doesnt need to be fancy or anything out the gates (im assuming some content-management-system is planned to be used). i dont think any social media integration is warranted (id personally prefer none). card linking functionality is needed of course.
it may also be helpful to establish continuity of the content from here, even with something as simple as linking the end of threads to new ones established at the new site. no reason not to leverage ongoing user generated content to set the tone of the new location as an information hub (mtgsalv is still going to dominate search algorithms for years to come). i havent looked too much into what discord offers in terms of integration plugins, but i think itd be neat to have a balance of 'chat' functionality and more comprehensive forum threads at some future point after things are established.
also dont forget (or feel bad about) asking for donations, and having links set up to take them. im not averse to chipping in what little i can from time to time, and optional crowdfunding can be a powerful tool.
cheers~

It's definitely heartbreaking to a lot of us, but being here has been one hell of a ride. I've grown a lot since coming here, mostly because I joined up and was subsequently brought into the mod team while in high school. Maybe in that regard saying I've grown a lot is, well, inevitable and actually doesn't say much about the how MTGS has influenced me. All the same, despite working on something new, I'm really going to miss this place. I've dumped so much time into this site it hurts to see it leave. I feel like a different woman than I was when I first started (although I wasn't a woman to begin with, so I guess my mileage may vary), but I've seen so much come and go in this community. It wouldn't trade this community away for the world. We've had our ups and downs, along with State of the Meta being... well, State of the Meta (long may it reign!), but I've loved interacting with every single one of you.
Mark my words, I will make our new home better than what we have here. We're gonna make something awesome, just you wait.

I'm not posting as much, but I definitely think we need a place like mtgsalvation forums that don't turn into a chaotic reddit slug fest.
Brewing decks is what keeps this game alive.

2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...

Loved the rules section, but noticed a lot of trolls and non-responses on questions. Maybe it’s a good thing to have this end and be reborn in another form.
Always enjoyed the Modern section, it was well organised, and popular, and dealt with a huge format well.
The general section worked well too.
I felt the Legacy section died a while back. I don't think the Legacy Mod was actually active for over a year, unlike the general staff and other mods- I certainly never got a response from any messages, and the arrangement did not work- the developing section was perpetually full of "my first vampire deck" type threads by people who literally had never played the format, and lots of top decks were missing from the main section even before the threads were lost.
I think Mtg needs a site like this, I note that the source has cooled down too.

Mark, you specifically were huge for me getting into the format and forums. As a young person looking to get into Stax, I spent hours reading through the RW Stax/Bridge Prison primer and brewing with it. I guarantee you what we're working on is gonna be sick.

I have enjoyed my time here, I hope I have helped as much as I have been helped, and hope to join you all on whatever comes up. We need a forum, discord just isn't where I want to be. I have a few thanks to give out myself on various threads.

Will we get the new community site link here? I'm assuming it will get posted when it is far enough along.

I know. I don't know what I'll really do without this place. This was the main place I would go to blow off steam and take my mind off more important matters (not always smart to avoid them, but ...)

I also have to say my goodbyes to this places as long as it is alive. This is the first big fomum I have been active, where I have taken over a thread, even if I maybe did a lousy job in there. It was fun. I feel like I learned a lot here and I hope we find a new creative home when this one collapses. The funniest thing about it is that I am enjoying Critical role very much atm. ... A show that is sponsored by DnD Beyond... Only in a perfect circle of life one passion eats the other.
I am very much for making a new primer for Modern Cheeri0s as soon as a new platform is available. Please count me in!

Consider me another supporter of this format. The Reddit-style comment thread does not lend itself to long form discussion.
