cloudshift is better, imo, and its still not worth it.
I don't understand. Why would Cloudshift be better, and why is it not worth it? Can you elaborate. It just seems like a perfect fit... gives you another way to blink your creatures, no?

Neither are worth it. The goal of this deck isn't to blink creatures. Yes it uses the blink ability to gain value off enter the battlefield effects, but playing cards that don't do anything on their own is a recipe for inconsistency in a controlling deck.
Restoration Angel is good because even if the blink doesn't matter, it's a 3/4 flying with flash. It's never going to be dead in your hand, and it doesn't require you to have a creature in play for it to do something. Think of the blink ability is a bonus that can 2 for 1 opponents when played right.

Hmm ok yeah that makes sense. Thank you for the explanation... trying to get this thing tuned up for a PTQ this weekend!
Not bothering to show a mana base for an archetype that has been known to have problems making shackles work is suspect. There are too many good non-island lands. Without a good mana base, the posted list of cards is not worth discussing.
Wall of Omens is the weakest card in the mainboard. It is largely irrelevant against most aggro decks, and uses mana when I should be holding up a counter spell against combo decks... The problem I find with this deck is that most of the creatures have little value once in the graveyard, and in the mirror so many creatures just die to all the removal. Sun Titan just seems to scream value, bringing back so many of the threats in the deck. It is also only a 1 of because it does cost 6. Baneslayer Angel is definitely a finisher and I am almost never sad to see her in my hand late game. In fact baneslayer wins the mirror most of the time. I would consider moving Wall of Omens to the sideboard against centain matchups, like Jund.
Both of the mentioned decks look pretty bad- the uwr geist deck basically exists due to the inherent flaw of resto decks- having a poor lategame and being a hybrid archetype(half slow aggro and half control). Additionally, the deck has a relatively weak early game because of the number of creatures that most people play; less 1-2cc disruption/permission.
The only reason anyone is fooling around with uw midrange decks that focus on getting value out of resto angel still is due to lack of games where things do not go right qua familiarity with build. Running lots of creatures and/or 3cc cards in uw midrange deck is simply bad.
I am currently fooling around with a resto control deck that follows my own observations and it seems to be working fairly well. I'll eventually share it, but certainly not worth the time/effort to do so right now because it is not capable of winning games when played how Modern versions of Standard decks from last year would be.
Gideon is a house but I think hes to slow for modern, but he works great with liliana OtV.
Tamiyo is defiantly to slow imo for this format but you could draw a lot of cards off her with gideon force attack, But they are fighting for the same slot.
So for blue jace 1 is the best, especially with sun titan, If your running sun titan you need to run jace 1.
I would only run sorin if your running a lot of tokens, and I mean you might as well play Wx tokens instead of Ux control.
I love elspeth but I don't think she really fits the bill for what we want to do.
If your going with karn forget about celestial colonnade, do you plan on running cryptic command?

Dictators prefer an unarmed population.
Decks I play and stuff.
Is this deck (the original evolution from the primer) just straight up worse than UWR (playing bolts, helix, electrolyze, and maindeck Mindcensor)? It seems like that deck is winning a lot more than just straight UW now.

Sideboard might need a little bit of rethinking, but I've been doing okay with this set-up. Haven't had the chance to test Duelist against UWR yet, though.
As Bloodbraid Elf has been kicked out of the format, will this deck restore its glory?
But the question is, what does the advantage of playing this deck instead of UWR Midrange from GP Bilbao?

Neither is strictly better than the other. UWR's power lies in it's ability to steal wins much like Jund used to. But UW can be more flexible, has more room for things like Tectonic Edge, and is altogether a different brand. It doesn't steal as many wins but you can't really hate on it (unlike UWR, which has certain cards it leans on) and it's much easier to tailor to specific metagames.

Ok it can't be more tempo than UWR (lack of bolt)
But can it be more control?
Most of the time you flash in creatures, you're tapped out, and they die
T3 Geist of Saint Traft, opponent cast lili, die
T4 Restoration Angel, opponent combo off, lose
Well, I'm not going to try and change your mind because it seems you already have it made up. All I'll say is that it's a different deck. It's no more like UWR than it's like Birthing Pod. Azorius Mid is it's own monster.
