Well, most of us have already been adding another color. The list from the pro tour splashed white, which is what i've been doing. Blue is another way to go. I've also seen a few G/b (dark confidant) or G/r (BBE and Burn).
Notice the thread title says G/x Elf Combo.
Also, something weird happened to me yesterday, Gaddock Teeg screwed up my game. Most of the time he's been extremely helpful but for some reason until then he had never conflicted with the core of the deck Green Sun's Zenith and Chord of Calling. Has anyone helse had this problem???????
ouch to no GSZ anymore... now we will have to switch out for more chord of callings... sad to see GSZ go bye bye. now because no more turn one dryad arbor and GSZ ramp, should arbor stay in? still a surprise defender with misty rainforest is the only reason to keep it in.
nah- i don't believe this is the end. they didn't ban heritage druid or cloudstone curio haha. yes it will be harder but it is still very much a good deck. back then, combo elves didn't run GSZ, granted they had glimpse of nature. time to settle for maindecking more chords and making smart weird harvest. also, people don't realize how good summoner's pact is. time to play smart and not rely on risk-free tutors.
I played Elves in Extended a season or two ago, when Mirrodin thru Alara (or maybe Zendikar) was Ext-legal. I'm thinking of doing it again with Modern. Of course, we've lost Glimpse and GSZ, so that sucks. But yeah, Summoner's Pact worked great for me before (when I remembered to pay the upkeep .. I lost a match I other would have won because of this).
So the draw engine is pretty much just Cloudstone Curio now? I still love Regal Force, but of course it's a bit slower. But since the format might be slowing down in general, maybe it'll be okay? I dunno. I'm pretty clueless outside Standard these days.
Okay .. so I know I've read up on it before, but exactly how does the Curio engine work again? And isn't Primal Command involved in there somehow too?
And what's the win condition? Is Emrakul it these days? Before it was Akroma's Memorial ...

Well, generally we produce infinite mana, draw our deck, bounce all of our opponents permanents, hardcast emrakul and the rest of our deck, take another turn. It generally wins.
We still have Chord of Calling which is functionally a GSZ. Weird Harvest is a possibility now that Infect and Cloudpost are no longer decks, not to mention the probable death of Splinter Twin. It's a whole new metagame- AGAIN!
Ok... so after lot's of mindless gathering I stumbled upon this cool interaction:
+
Ad some creature pump (giving glistening Elf +10 power) and this cute combo allows you to instantly kill your opponent with POISON!!!...
I did some goldfishing (yes, I'm still in a goldfish phase), but the results are promising, the deck can reliably combo-off turn 3, turn 4 at the latest... still looking to get more consistency into the list... but this is what I've got right now:
I haven't dabbled with Cloudstone Curio yet - since I find it to clunky/slow and it only works when you see an Elvish Visionary...
I like the idea in this deck but wouldnt you be better to have 1 or 2 more soul's fire and at least 4x Rootbound Crag? This is in case you ran across a deck that has some mill or counterspell (modern format it might not but i was at my local FNM and there was a guy playing a Rakdos Mill (Bl/R) which was doing well)
Root Bound Crag is a decent enough land and it produces the 2 colors you want. I know gemstone mine is a good choice due tothe charge counters but you only have 3 usages from it.
yeah GSZ was recyclable and all but it can easily be replaced by summoner's pact and it will help combo off better not losing that extra mana you would have lost with GSZ. again- this means you need to know exactly what you need to combo off. people have the tendency to just grab a random one drop because they know GSZ will keep reappearing. same with weird harvest- you def need to calculate your mana left over and the amount of creatures your are able to get. i like chord of calling, esp cuz I'm running intruder alarm so I guess I'm a little biased haha. this tutor is ridiculously powerful. this deck is still really good without GSZ- it's just that there are obvious risks with stupid plays. for instance- don't weird harvest against zoo if you aren't going to win that turn.
not just the draw engine but it is the core of the combo deck(ok really THE combo is heritage druid and nettle sentinel). this is the card that makes infinite mana, life, storm count, and cards: nettle sentinel for mana. essence warden for life. and visionary for cards. all of these combos also need heritage druid. so hdruid, cloudstone, fill in the blank elf creature, and another 1 drop elf. I will make a thread for more in depth combos and how they work.
Has eldrazi monument been discussed as a game ender? Seems like flying and pro-sweepers would be solid
ya it has been discussed. great card but not a game ender. this doesn't allow you to win that turn. even if you have 20+ total power among elves to swing with, you still have to wait until next turn to do so. and being a combo format, that extra turn can mean the difference between winning or losing. so that is why people run cards that will aid to their winning that same turn.
ya so even though I run UG combo elves I don't run the dude for various reasons. Yeah he is better than elvish visionary in that you can play an additional land if you already played one- which is the only reason he's better. But try going infinite card draw with him... yeah you can't. unless you run an elf that taps for blue. So that is the reason why visionary is better in this deck.

Its a good card in that it gives everything indestrubility. But its vulnerable to a lot of removal. Its not what we need though. Akroma's Memorial would be a better choice over it as it gives haste to all your creatures. But that to is not safe against a Naturalise or any other "destroy target artifact"
Emrakul does the job well in that he cant be countered or removed without globals or a Oring or Journey. But whos going to get another turn after your done swinging your elves for him to be obliterated? Cause if they play a fog you just play a 1 drop elf and return him back to hand, hard cast him again until you punch through.

I see G/W and cards like Mark of Asylum that make white very appealing.
Then I see cards like Intruder Alarm that make blue seem stronger.

I would take the explore's out and put something else in there maybe 2 chord of calling and 1 of might of the masses and Glistener Elf.
