Granted it's a just for fun deck, but I wanted to explore a deck for modern with Shadowborn Apostle and Thrumming Stone. I guess the deck would contain 22 or so Shadowborn Apostles 4 stones and a handful of Demons. 2 of for Griselbrand, then what other good demons are in modern?
What would you guys suggest?
Right now I have Rune-Scared to search up the stone should I get to six SAs and no stone. He makes me want to run a few Immortal Servitudes also. Engine enabler.
Shadowborn Demon plays as basic removal that shouldn't be too hard to cast when needed.
Brand is kinda the backbone beater.
Harvester and Bloodgift can do some CA for me.
Immortal Servitude only a 1 of until I find room for 2 more.
This has to be a combo deck, meaning the demon you sac the apostles for has to win you the game. So drop Harvester, Bloodgift, Shadowborn, and Rune-scarred Demon. That gives you 5 spots. I'd add in Rakdos the Defiler. And you need a better enabler for Thrumming stone. I don't know what that would be though, I'm sorry. 5 mana is too much for a deck with no acceleration.
Not sure on that advise. I mean it's good advise, but this is more for kitchen table magic. I did look at my copies of Rakdos and thought maybe. However we usually do fun games and nothing would be as cool as rippling your deck and pulling out 4 or 5 big demons.
Rune demon is a necessary evil. It allows me to sac 3 sets and find my servitude to get 3 more demons out. My board usually looks like brand, runescared, shadowborn, 2 bloodgifts, and harvester the turn after stones drop. I would like to put in necromancers. That'll create huge blowouts.
Just thought about Elixir of Immortality. Maybe a 2 of? Can go off, sac my guys and bring them back into the library to go off again. That makes me think of maybe a few artists also.
I was recently pondering a deck like this too! I have a thing for 'fun'
Personally would consider Cavern of Souls, Demon of Death's Gate, and a few more Immortals (as you mentioned). One other thing to consider is extraction effects like Surgical Extraction and Extirpate; along with some Discard. You really want to be ripping their hand apart rather than just crossing your fingers and hoping you can successfully land (and keep) a ton of 1/1's. DoDGate used to be fun with Mortician Beetle and Quest for the Gravelord, but I guess you wont have the space for something like that.
One card that caught my attention, seeing as you can potentially add white already, was Mark of Asylum. That should stop Snapcaster Mage going bonkers with Lightning Bolt / Electrolyze / Pyroclasm / a million other honourable mentions from ruining your fun. White also gives you Ranger of Eos, Green gives you Lead the Stampede, Descendants' Path and Abrupt Decay for interaction with your opponent. It would be very easy to include a light splash to ensure you have some way to refill your hand, rather than investing 5 mana into a Thrumming Stone. Maybe consider Quicksilver Amulet or Summoner's Egg, rather than Thrumming Stone?
You could also consider Not of this World, but I guess it's better to plan for actually getting the Demon onto the table first, rather than protection
I was considering Demon of Death's Gate originally. He was the last demon cut.
Also thinking about adding red to the deck. Thinking about Pentad Prism for a possible 3rd turn stones. SSG could help speed it out aswell.
Through the Breach could be the backup in red also.
If you want to rip hands apart then blightning and return do a decent job.
bloodbond march? echoing truth?
I designed a deck like this in about 5 min, so it could be improved, but it made all the tron players on cockatrice rather unhappy for a day. You can win on turn 4or 5 pretty easily, and they never see it coming.
sire and defiler seem to be the most utilitarian, you already have rakdos the defiler, that seems like the most game winning out of the whole lot of red demons already.
