With all of the newest Eldrazi flavour hype coming from PT Oath of the Gatewatch I figured that there should be a thread for dedicated talk about the URC Eldrazi Archtype (as I didn't see a previous one). There were two UR decks put into the top 8 with their lists below. Each lists has a sleight variation from the other but both stick to the same core concept.
Advantages of the UR style come in the form of Vile Aggregate which was quoted as the "better Tarmogoyf", and the ability to go wide extra fast through Eldrazi Skyspawner, Endless One, Eldrazi Mimic and the rest of the deck essentially costing 1 mana. It doesn't rely on processing and therefor has more room for aggressive cards by cutting Relic of Progenitus effects. It is very synergistic and attacks on multiple levels. It puts up a quick clock with the help of Ruination Guide when going wide, it can lock down opponents attackers with Drowner of Hope, and when none of that is enough it gets in for huge damage swings with the undercosted effect of Eldrazi Obligator. These are all on top of the now standard suite of Thought-Knot Seer and Reality Smasher.
This version looks to be one of the most proactive variants and holds a ton of potential. Congrats to the newest PT champion!
That is one heck of a mana base, though. Three caverns and four scalding tarn in the current market is brutal.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
It looks like any blue fetch would work, since there's no fetching of basic mountains.
Yeah one of the points is that if you get hit with a Blood moon then you have a ton of Mountains, so there is no need to run any.
True, I could run the polluted deltas I own now that I think about it.

I've been playing with a slightly cheaper mana base, using corrupted crossroads as a second playset of shivan reef, and a few more basics so I always have something to fetch when hit with path or ghost quarter, and it is still extremely consistent.

I guess any blue or red fetch could make the deck work coz scalding tarn is approaching $100
You only want blue fetches since if there is an impending Blood Moon you want to be able to search out some Islands. A RX fetch wouldn't be able to do that.
For budget reason, scalding tarns can be replaced by corrupted crossroads. All maindeck cards of the pro tour ur eldrazi decks are devoid, and dismembers can be cast anyway.
Reminder: No banlist discussion in this thread. The Modern forum rules are very clear on this point and we need people to keep their discussion confined to deck strategy and development, not bans. If you want to talk about bans, you can do so in the official banlist thread.
If anyone sees banlist discussion after this post, report it and DO NOT RESPOND. Responding often earns you a warning/infraction as well. Staff will handle it.
I keep Endless One against aggro. With the eye, it is a free 2/2. This build wants to clog the board state, and that does it. I also tend to side in gut shot against aggro. I've started including Warping Wail in my sideboard, and it has been invaluable against infect and affinity.
So far i think AbzanCompany (podless pod) and KikiChord seem to be somewhat unfsvorable matchups - or maybe im doing something wrong.
Whats your plan there?
On another note: can someone elaborate on why Phantasmal Image instead of Ruination Guide?
Thanks for any input, im new to the deck, have only played like 20-25 games so far with it.
BTW the deck is such a blast

The great Eldrazi Overlords will return to the Modern World.
Image seems really interesting, but you wont be able to cast it off the first Cavern of Souls and neither does it profit from ETemple or Eye. It will cost 2 - no matter what. But it actually seems very versatile, i agree.
Have you done some testing?

UR does not need Matter Reshaper. UR has much better cmc3 eldrazi.
Obligator and Vile Aggregate for exaample are amazing, just like Skyspawner.
Then there is also ruination guide.... cmc3 slot is SWARMED in ur, and reshaper is not that good actually. Colorless just uses it to fill the curve imo

Before this post gets misread, this is a post about the discussion of strategy/brewing.
How is this deck going to function in a world where Eye of Ugin gets the axe? It significately increases the speed, so wouldn't drazi become just another tier2 deck?
Or would adding 4 nexi be a possibility? Albeit a turn slower.
This line of discussion is okay IF people focus solely on alternate cards and builds without mentioning the chances, reasons for, reasons against, etc. the ban itself. Cards/strategy are okay. Ban discussion/speculation/counterargument is not. If this becomes an issue, we just won't allow this talk in the thread at all.
Played my first Modern tournament with this deck and went 4-2. Made a huge misplay against a 4 color control player, where I could have won the match if had used my Cavern so my Reality Smasher couldn't be countered. He had Counterflux... really frustrated about that misplay. Here's the matches I played:
2-1 against Grixis Reanimator
2-1 against UW Control
2-0 against Scapeshift
1-2 against 4 color control
2-0 against Grixis control with Exarch + kiki Jiki
1-2 against Colorless Eldrazi.
That wouldn't have mattered, the current rule is that Colorless is not a color therefore you cannot utilize Cavern for Colorless Eldrazi in the sense of it not being countered. The whole reason Cavern is in here is for the 3 CMC Eldrazi that require a U or R to cast and Drowner.
I'm running this land base since I don't have the funds for the $100 Tarns, might try getting U fetches, but this seems fairly consistent for me. I can flip flop Tomb and Quarters, either way works for me as they both have their own advantages.
As for the Phantasmal Image test, I am curious about it. I can see it having a much stronger presence in this deck given it's synergy with Mimic and our larger creatures.
