I am going to again say I think BW attrition is the best name for this deck since that is essentially what we are. Kind of control, kind of midrange, looks to overrun with hand disruption and value creatures.
I had literally not even considered Empty the pits until you mentioned immapwner. We run functionally the same list with just a few minor preference tweaks, I would say it would have to replace a baneslayer as it just seems better vs jund but I can't really imagine playing more than 1 and the BBBB could be an issue even turn 8 or 9. Also the fact the tokens can't block the turn they come in may kill it but it definitely has potential.
I am a little sad to see so many people move away form baneslayer angel as she has been amazing for me for flying over clogged board states and allowing me to out race opponents or stabilize with a bob out. Some people mentioned thundermaw hellkite being a problem which gets owned by baneslayer. On the same note I am surprised to hear Lili being cut from so many lists as she clears up some otherwise shakey matchups like tron or boggles or scapeshift.
Not a fan of murderous cut personally, the bob flip hurts and it doesn't seem that much better than say dismember.
New sorin is a great card, I am loving him in standard but not sure he has a place here. To me he seems better in an aggro shell as a finisher and I could see us a lot of the time just dropping him onto our empty board while our opponent has one random creature out which is not really where I want to be going but it may be the synergy with souls and some rats is too good to pass up but I probably would not cut lili for her.
Ive been playing Immapwners deck and I have loved it... This is the list I posted early of the new build with the new sorin. I definitely think he is an improvement from the last one.
Sorin works great with brimaz and I thought an extra pump from hero of bladehold would help as well. I threw in more removal and hand disruption to try to make up for no lili... I think if this deck went this direction we might have to be a little more on the aggro side with a great mid to late game in pack rat.. I have yet to do much testing against any top tier decks
I have also been considering the new Sorin, he seems sweet and I will definetly be testing him as a one-of at least. Murderous Cut seems sweet, but regardless of the low casting cost when playing it, it still is a 5 point life loss to bob, and I'm not sure if that's worth it for a removal when we have access to some of the most efficient removal in the format anyway (I can see the point of taking 5dmg for, say, Baneslayer Angel since it, hopefully, brings us the life back). Might be worth trying out though.
I completely forgot about cut being a 5 drop flip to confidant, seems horrible now.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring
I would tilt my 60 to give the best game 1. I think winning the first game against aggro is harder than the first game against control or midrange, so I'd go with vault of the archangel in the main. Additionally, I like the name "Tom and Jerry".
Has any thought of or tried a more mid to late game strategy? By that I mean going with phyrexian arena over bob while main boarding damnation/wrath of god, oblivion rings, fulminator mages, more targeted discard with mind rot/duress and pin point removal. Possibly add in the new sorin to build flyers or gain life with lili on the field to keep the discard and sac consistent...

It would also free up the sideboard quite a bit
Yes. The Wescoe version is like that a bit. I don't have bobs so I run Arena with Blood Baron of Vizkopa and Batterskull as finishers. Lots of removal, solid disruption, damnation, what's not to like?

I only run 1 brimaz but yeah tom and jerry is pretty hilarious actually, I will probably add another brimaz just because of this name. Been picking up some marsh flats and bloodstained mires to pretty much finish my deck I look forward to getting to play it to its full potential in paper.
This is the thread that started it all, at least on our site (although I will say it's awesome that this started seeing play after our thread kicked off interest!). Thanks to all who posted in it. Just in time for the forum update tomorrow, you guys have a brand new primer, which will be sticking around in Established for at least 6 more months.
