If there is a creature in your opponent's graveyard and not yours, and there is a creature on either side of the battlefield, then you can cast rise. But that can be a problem if you are giving your opponent a snapcaster mage or a goyf or something. if there is no creatures in any graveyard but there is a creature in play, you cannot cast rise.
Hey does anyone want to build a new thread? the original primer is a bit outdated IMO and I feel like making a new one that we can make updates to. Anyone behind this?
Alright, I will get started on building a new primer. With blackjacks and hookers! (futurama reference if you don't get it). I would like assistance from you guys though. The basic layout I have planned so far is this:
1. Introduction to the deck
1a. History of the deck
1b. current iteration of the deck
1c. Why should YOU play the deck
2. Components of the deck
2a. The untouchables
2b. The Tweakables
2c. Flex spots
2d. Budget options
3. Matchups
3a. tier 1
3b. tier 2
3c. other decks
4. Sideboard and options
4a. Common Sideboard options
4a1. Vs Aggro
4a2. Vs Combo
4a3. Vs Midrange
4a4. Vs Control
4b. Rouge sideboard options
4c. sideboard options that aren't as strong or inferior to 4a. or 4b.
5. Professional players' input on the deck
5a. CalebD
5b. Channel Fireball
5c. Star City Games
5d. Other
6. Tips and Tricks you should know when playing the deck
6a. Delver + upkeep interactions
6b. Snapcaster + Kolaghan's Command
6c. Kolaghan's command vs spellskite
6d. Electrolyze and forked bolt vs spellskite
6e. serum visions and fetchland
That's just the pure outline of what I want inside the new primer. If you have any suggestions of what to add, let me know. I plan on having this mostly done by tomorrow night pacific standard time
I would stress why you would play this over other Grixis variants. Some points to hit:
Control doesn't have early pressure backed up with cheap counters and removal. They can't flip a Delver turn 2 and count to 20 by 3, and therefore auto lose to Tron.
Twin is basically Control but with 10 slots dedicated to cards that are weak by themselves. Terrible BGx matchups, and gets annihilated by Delver.
I appreciate the time and effort you're putting in to this for our small Delver community and those to come. If I can be of any help hit me up with a PM.
Ive owned a grixis delver deck for awhile now, and also uw delver. And temur is where its at right now
First of all, this doesn't contribute at all to the conversation, and is irrelevant.
Secondly, I feel like Grixis is superior to Temur.
You get to play Goyf and some sideboard cards, sure, but Angler usually brick walls your average Goyf and Tasigur is Goyf with a relevant ability.
I don't think Stubborn Denial is good, and if it is, it's just as good in Grixis with Delve fatties.
You don't have Terminate or Go for the Throat so you're stuck with jank cards like Roast.
You don't have access to value town, with Kommand and Rise // Fall.
There's no reason to play Temur over Grixis. You get a better Burn Matchup post board, but you lose more often to Grixis Control and Twin.
Alright, here is a link to where the Primer is currently at. I cannot upload a new primer for some reason right now because of a weird "Non Latin Unicode characters are temporarily not allowed." error. This is a google doc that can be viewed by anyone. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ud64qNRz6x1GuQWS2dQHQ4d45xHFOZLS_WzypaIHgWg/edit?usp=sharing
EDIT: New primer made, lemme know what you think!

Well I've played both and Temur is far better, so I dont know what to tell you mate.
Probes don't allow you to run a 56 card deck. You still have 60 cards. And Probes aren't free. You're paying 2 life or 1 mana and a CARD to get another CARD. That said, it still is a good card and belongs in the deck. Just some common misconceptions about how much cards actually cost.
The probes sees all. That info is potentially game winning.

This is a great idea, I'm just getting back into Magic since the Zendikar - Innistrad block, and have a Delver deck from that time, so this seems like the logical Modern deck to build up. Digging through the last 80 odd pages as left me a little confused though.
no more lingering souls (pretty much zero fliers) / less electrolyze's / more combo decks - it's time to play vendilion clique boyz
aim for 1 main 1 side
I kind dig that feeling..probably i'm going to test just 1 copy main board and 3 seizes on board...

I've been interested in playing Grixis Delver in Modern after committing to play it in Legacy as well.
