not only that, the most broken card in the deck still relies on affinity (thoughtcast)
in addition, it's still affinity of old in "spirit", pooping out your entire hand in 1-2 turns with the help of all our acceleration.
if you wanted to change the name, it'd probably be more along the lines of "factory" or "acceletron" or "assembly line", somebody would come up with a better name, but you get the idea
and regarding more "appropriate" names, i really don't think that matters too much tbh :l, we don't call Nic Fit "Green White Black midrange attrition" in legacy, and high tide is not ever going to be called "monoblue ramp-draw combo"
how silly would it be if someone called their eggs deck "second sunrise draw cycle spellbomb combo" or something

The examples you use all point to using "Robots", not "affinity".
Mind you, I call it affinity too, but... Affinity is the keyword that started it all. Tide is named after it's key card. Appropriate means "catchy and fiting with what we want to do". By your standards the "appropriate" name for Affinity that was suggested was "lawl, plating means we have an archetype" or "platings, opals, evasion, oh my!"
Personally, I'll call it Affinity until I feel silly. Unless a deck evolves into a different niche you call it the same name. It's a lineage. Keeper stayed Keeper, did it not? Now There are decks that inherited the Mana drains and they're different, but until that point it was keeper even after Voids, Moats, Superman and Serra Angel all went away.

there is no card named nic fit :l, and eggs is based way more off of second sunrise, not to mention that spellbombs aren't actually called eggs

Robots is more accurate, but Affinity is the name and always will be. Look at Standard when Innistrad first came out, why was there an Esper Control-Reanimator deck called Solar Flare? Why are decks in standard still called "Junk"?
Plus, Affinity is no longer used in modern Artifact Decks.
But, seeing how this would confuse the crap out of people I would go with Robots. I also have a Merfolk Deck, which I call Fish. So, Robots & Fish? LOL
this, I think affinity as much as wizards seems to hate the bad press it makes needs to keep its name. Its a legacy of domination in magic. 3 decks have made their mark on magic in the way affinity has.
Dredge, storm, affinity. Decks which are bogey men. their always there, sometimes they rule the world other times they fall by the wayside. Then when you least expect it they come out of no where and get you.
Affinity is more than a mechanic, its a title. Tempered steel wasn't affinity. There is a difference. but affinity is affinity.
i would like to thank everyone who voted affinity and say that i'm glad history and tradition still mean something.
The traditional build is gone. Arti-lands are banned and actually affinity for artifact cards aren't used anymore. Even though both decks run 4 platings and hate kataki, they work differently. Different names are important to tell the difference between decks.
Affinity = frogmite, arti-lands, disciple, ravager, thoughtcast, myr enforcer,... (that banned from standard deck)
Robots = a lot of 0cc and 1cc stuff attacking with plating or tempered steel
I do find it funny, that, even though the deck when it was legal in Standard, was called Affinity, it ran a total of 3 different cards that actually had that mechanic.
We run 1. Yes, 12>4, but it's not like, say, Goblins, or Faeries, where more than half their deck was part of the respective title.
The deck is still Affinty, we've just had to adapt to the banning of the Artifact Lands. Simple as that. I would be playing Myr Enforcer or Frogmite if I had access to those lands.
I think that even besides the archetypes history, current bannings, or political correctness on the (lack of) the mechanic in the average lists these days, etc etc;
...when you say Robots, people generally get a mental image of Memnite or Signal Pest; they think of the weenies, and sometimes even chuckle when that mental image is followed up by the thought of Pyroclasm.
When you say 'Affinity', they immediately think of Cranial Plating and Ravager. And chances are, they aren't smiling

Am I not the pilot of my deck?
Then I choose Mech.
