Even if 80% of your deck is 1 drops (more like, especially if...) you definitely want to be hitting your 2nd land drop, just for the turn 1 drop, turn 2 , two 1 drops...

I know there are some legacy burn decks all the way down to 16. With no card draw or ramp, or any shenanigans. Just mountains(to dodge wastelands) and burns.
17-18 still gives you good odds of getting 2 lands, but severely diminishes your chances of hitting 4(auto lose). I don't remember the exact math on it...(if anyone has it, please).

i run around 18 - 19: 4 mesa, 4 tarn, blood crypt, sacred foundery + mountains... only 20-21 if i include shard volley.
you know... RDW and burn look so similar these days i forget where i am... thats in my burn. Havent played RDW in little while but im a fan of Demigod style RDW. With 24 lands and MB blood moons lol and not the more recent sleigh looking type...;)
The reach is nice, and the colorless damage is good for taking out a late Auriok Champion, which can be pretty backbreaking. But I think it's a really situational card, a lot of times if you've played out your hand with RDW and haven't won yet there's a good chance you're not going to win and the extra 1 damage a turn isn't going to make that big of a difference. Occasionally though there's those games where you end up just a few damage short and it could help out. I'm thinking maybe a 1-of wouldn't hurt and could be useful in situations.
Assuming Mikeageddon is planning on keeping this primer up to date, I have copied the last month or so of discussion from the old primer to here and stuck this one.
I believe that was supposed to happen a long time ago, but never got done.
There are now two primers, one for RDW and the other for Burn.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
This is my first day of testing this deck with skullcrack. Only missing the stomping ground.
I also participated on blippy's eurodrive but lost to a random bad monoblack discard/infect deck (yeah, noob decks and randomness, oh well...). Other than that, the deck is behaving really well, but it's hard to find tier1-1.5 decks to play against even in the "tournament practice" room.
Monoblack discard actually has an excellent matchup against us. We are so hurting for card advantage that once they wreck our hand they have the better clock.
No, we don't care about monoblack discard because it's a deck that shouldn't be played by anyone because it's just BAD. But we can't do anything against random noobs. This is why in small local tournaments or the kitcken tables it's better to play decks like jund or kikipod that are all around good instead of running decks tunned for the specific meta like burn or infect.
But those decks tend to be kind of expensive (waiting for MM...).
I wouldn't say that you are going to run into a lot of MBC with heavy discard, but it's highly possible to run into a BGx deck with Inquisition of Kozilek and Liliana of the Veil. Losing 2 cards can really hurt sometimes.
I remember decimating a Mono B discard once... but that was the old Demigod red with hellsparks and lavaman mainboard. What ever happened to those days... sigh.
Well I made a SCD thread regarding Spark Elemental, but it hasn't drawn much attention. I originally disliked it in modern, but I have since changed my attitude on him. Does anyone have any glaring weaknesses with the card in a creature focused deck(where if he eats removal it's good), and you're trying to win fast(so big blockers aren't too concerning)?
It's not too bad, but Lava Spike, Bump in the Night, and Rift Bolt are all far more likely to successfully do their three damage, so it tends to miss the cut.
The biggest advantage I can see to using Spark Elemental itself is that a hardcast Proclamation of Rebirth can reanimate it alongside two other one-drops.

There's not enough burn I like. Or I might consider that.
