Edel is running straight BG w/ Fulminators main and Dark Confidant and Courser of Kruphix making an appearance. I dunno about you guys but this made me rethink my stance on splashing being the only way to go. It seems funky but his mana has gotta be crazy consistent.

You hurt your Maná base, but u get the best 4 drop in modern and u dont get absolutely crushed by affinity, thats the problem with BG builds. By the way im talking bout junk with rhino and stony
If you read Edel's twitter feed he's trying dozens of variations of abzan. He's not married to any one deck and he's trying to see what sticks. He went on a horrible losing streak in 15x 8 man tournaments.
What are people's thoughts on Abzan charm in the new meta?
Being able to draw 2 cards at instant speed is one of the best CA spells in the format with TC and DTT being banned, and losing 2 life isn't as bad with burn losing popularity.
Almost all of Zoo's creatures have power 3 or more. Same with the mirror. Same with manlands.
Putting 2 +1/+1 counters into play can stop electrolyze from killing 2 of our guys, or make Rhino a 6/7 with trample.
Unlike path, it doesn't give your opponent a land and isn't a dead card against scapeshift and storm.
what's your opinion about a couple of Ghostly Prison in the SB?
i think it's pretty good against aggro decks such as affinity, wb tokens, merfolk....and also a good answer to twin combo
Prison is a card I really want to find a home for in modern. The problem with it is that its a speedbump - eventually you still have to deal with the creatures if you want to win (unless you're on mill or combo - not really junk's forte). If the card just buys us 2 turns is that good enough? I mean you still probably need to resolve the damnation or engineered explosives to beat merfolk - but prison won't get cursecatcher'd and can absolutely slow them down. Is also nice vs twin, decent vs affinity and zoo and excellent vs tokens.

I played it a lot pre-ban and think it was probably a little better there, since we couldn't really play bob and it doubled as card draw. The modes I used it for were the draw and exile. In terms of removal, I actually really liked it and found it very useful when I had it. There was only one game against fish were I couldn't use it right away.
Have been running 2 but cut it to one since I put confidants back into the deck. I would certainly try it out as it is an underrated, albeit expensive, option. Also, I really hate to run path's so I enjoyed the removal without a drawback (other than the power limitation). Not sure if it matters but in a corner case against mono-U tron, I got mind-slavered and had chalice of the void set to three against me and couldn't case lili, charm or dismember. Just an observation in case that happens to be in your meta (probably just a corner case tho). Otherwise its very nice against wurmcoil engine as well

If its a singleton I'd rather just have a path. The fact that charm cannot deal with bob or VoR is a huge deal. Whoever sticks a bob for longer will win the mirror match. Path is also better against iona and mirran crusader. I don't like path in the first 4 turns, but going t5 path & rhino is swingy
@Throst54 - Would you be able to provide an update regarding your use of VoR in the MB? I really like the idea - especially the synergy with Lingering Souls.

Not throst obviously but I played some side events at the mana deprived super series yesterday with voice in the main. It did some serious work as a dude I didn't mind throwing away, especially helpful vs infect.

So I went to a tournament in my LGS, bought 2 rhinos, but ended up playing straight BG as I'm not used to play the white splash. Got rewarded for not running into affinity and splitted with a guy playing merfolks (went 2-0 against burn, jund and some jundhating-naya). Got another rhino from the packs I opened, so owning pretty much as many as I would consider running.
That was last thursday, since then I've been tinkering with the deck and ended up with a list very similar to the ones I saw here. Honestly, I'm not very impressed. For some reason I lost quite a few games testing against zoo, a deck I'm happy to face playing BG. The affinity match up becomes feasible G1, and odds increase greatly with stony silence, that I grant you. Haven't tested a lot of other match-ups, and I'm still wanting to see how the pseudo-mirror goes with lingering souls on my side.
I'm not sold on W yet, but will keep testing.
Btw, are we supposed to have problems against merfolk? I pretty much agreed to split because last time I faced merfolks the guy wrecked my lands with multiple spreading seas, and I was lucky to do so, as it happened again on game 3 (we played it out just for fun). 3 early Spreading seas is pretty hard to overcome, it seems.
EDIT: Oh and by the way, isn't voice a little bit too color intensive in a deck we're aiming to have BB by turn 3? Haven't ever casted one, but it seems quite decent from what I played against it. But... I mean, we've got bob, goyf and ooze. Curve 2 is pretty clogged.
I've been testing 3 bob 3 VoR and voice is great in the mirror, he almost always eats a path because hate to give you the value creature, laughs at liliana and does obviously does wonderful things when you can sneak him in vs a blue deck. Well worth trying out.
I don't understand how voice works with the manabase. We need B turn 1 for discard, GW turn 2 for voice, and BB turn 3 for lily, all in a deck that runs tectonic edge and stirring wildwood. And we need lots of green mana for Scooze.

My thoughts exactly. It's going to be extra painful with this start considering that's probably going to need to be three turns of untapped shocks. Add in a couple more damage for fetching, and if you went T1 Thoughtsieze you could be down to 10 already without taking a hit. The priorities in our starts should be T1 discard and T3 Lili, IMO. Voice, while great against some metas, seems very greedy on our mana.

One can run a single Godless Shrine in an otherwise straight BG Rock deck for side-board Stony Silence or what have you. One needn't jump ship entirely.
With that up there I'd like to talk about voice. I've rarely had issues having to fetch-shock to allow me to play voices or play Liliana. I'm actually really confused how you guys think we can end up at 10 (guessing hyperbole?) from adding mana intensive cards into the deck. I agree it makes the mana a touch more strenuous but I dunno guys, it is not as bad as you are making out to be. Your t1 fetch should rarely be a shock and if it is you better not be playing thoughtseize that turn, that's just common sense. The meta slowed down after delver left but cmon, it was never really a good idea to lava axe yourself, ever. The only time you can do that kind of nonsense is if you are 100% sure you are playing a all in combo deck that will put you way behind (ie nailing their amulet of vigor or infects only dude) if you don't do it. Part of modern, and more to the point playing 2+ color decks, is learning how to sequence mana and in moderns case fetch appropriately. How many times do you guys have the stars align and you get your thoughtseize, your threat and your liliana in your opener anyway? Maybe you guys are more lucky than I am.
On a less aggressive note I managed to beat RG tron for the first time in for freaking ever it seems like. I think the allure of having a snowballs chance in Hawaii against tron is worth running white over red for the meantime.
