If league prizing isn't something redeemable or something that has value in the online economy, then it IS basically nothing.
You fail to understand the difference between "nothing" and "something that I don't want because I don't like to play this type of event anyway". If you don't like prizes that give you more opportunities to play the game, why are you playing the game?
</blockquote> I'm playing the game because its a fun game. That doesn't make every single decision tied to magic a good decision for the game/players/me. There's a huge list of people complaining about the online economy and low ev events. From nobodies like me all the way up to pros who make their living from magic. I didn't just make this up over night and go on some one man crusade.

Phantom events are pretty cheap to play, I suspect leagues will be too. It's not going to be free of course. If you like to play limited, pay to play limited, and if you like to play limited and the prizes make it cheaper for you to play your next round of limited, they have value. If you don't like to play limited, why are you here? If you just want a shiny collection of digital objects to "own", play events that award packs and that are not phantom so you can keep your bytes in a server database, er I mean cards.
