there was a deck that top 8ed a PTQ in the US that was dubbed "UG Control." My team tested it and it seemed really bad, especially against the top aggro decks of the field, so we kind of scrapped it and chalked whoever played the ug control list success to him getting good matchups versus legends all day.
this is the competitive forum though, and saying that you just came up with this list and you want some help on the deck makes this thread a contender for the casual forums. For the most part now all of us people who have tested for countless hours, know which decks are good and which arent, I dont see any new tech coming out of kamigawa block.
But yeah right away I can tell that you are running some very sub optimal cards and optimal cards at sub optimal numbers. Just to get you started though;
a cardinal rule in KBC is if you run forests you are REQUIRED to play kodama of the north tree.

Hats off to [BB18 & IBTG], you've found something that may be THE deck to beat post rotation.
I disagree with the above statement. Most Snake decks don't run Kodama of the North.

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.
Honestly..how good is Overwhelming Intellect in this deck. I think I would rather have more defiances or Jittes or something better than a 6 mana conditional counter.

Those who fear the darkness have never seen what the light can do.
in testing I think everytime someone on my team drew an overwhelming intellect, we always wished it was something else. The card is just ridiculously narrow, and like Raia said its a 6 mana counterspell....

well, I dont know about timestop talking the slot either though. I mean more often that not I would want to counter a kodama of the north tree and draw 5 cards to nearly fill up my hand or I could time stop..... there arent any game breaking spells that really need to be stopped in time, like there isnt any tooth and nail or rude awakening to shut down. In alot of situations timestop will be a 6 mana counter.
I personally wouldnt run either.

IBTG, you're absolutely right. I was merely saying Timestop would be the better choice of the two. He did run a couple in the board afterall. I don't think this deck is seriously viable because you can't really outrun WW with it to get control.
yeah, like I said my team tested different variants of this deck and all of 'em had a fatal flaw of getting there arse handed to them by MBA and WW, 2 decks that make up around 80% of the darn field. Im curious though how this top 8ed a gp though, WW alone put 29 players onto day 2, so i guess we cant just use the ol' "he got lucky on his matchups" excuse, I really think this deck is more designed to beat the gifts and legends decks, which are apparently better in the eyes of the pros than the aggro decks that rule the ptq circuits.
this is seriously one of the first blocks I have ever seen evolve into two entirely different metagames. Just take a peak at all the ptq lists over at wizards and you will notice that the vast majority of the top 8 is made up of WW and MBA. Yet at gp minneapolis this aswell as that MonoBlue Honor worn-shaku deck that Andy Stok (andrew stokinger) both top 8ed and as andy will freely admit they both lose horribly to MBA and WW. I wont allow the answer to this question be some assanine explanation as the whole time difference argument, but as of yet its something that puzzles me.

have we maybe thought about mana fixing and dropping cleansing fire or final judgment into the deck wer noit creature heavy so the cards wouldn't hurt us this would of course take the deck closer to 3c control but i beleive its the best route to deal with aggro decks and weenie decks which i expect will be everything at my meta except for me playing either this or 3c control so we will see

one man's rant cannot change the way things work but maybe just maybe i can change the minds of just a few ppl who in turn will hopefully change the minds of a few more and they cycle will continue.
Overwhelming Intellect seems like a good foil to the control deck to me...
If the deck won a ptq, it must have game against aggro.
Threads and Rending Vines make short work of the weenie decks, right? They buy you plenty of time to draw out the game into your late meloku / northside / Keiga win.
Anyone?
Against aggro, would you rather have this green/blue, or the mono-blue one on swimming with sharks from a while back, designed by shota yasooka, and piloted to the finals of the grand prix niigata:
Is there a way to hybridize the more draw-oriented yaso-control deck with the speedup of green? In other words, does jushi apprentice / azami have any place in the G/U deck?
1 Kira, Great Glass Spinner
