sorry to say but jitte reads "whenever equipped creature deals combat damage, put two charge counters on umezawa's jitte.
Exactly, the Jitte says whenever it DEALS combat damage. If a Jitte-equipped crature is blocked by a Tribe Elder, and the controll of Tribe Elder sacs it, the attacking creature has no blocker left to deal damage to, so it won't deal any damage and Jitte won't get counters.
It should be banned because it has wrecked the format. It is so much better than the other options in the format that it makes decks like R/B Control unviable. It makes aggro playable. Without it, aggro would not have won very many PTQs, and Gifts would be viewed as Tier 1. You know that this is true, and that it has wrecked the format to an almost Skullclamp-ish extent. It's just too good.
In limited, the chance of pulling one of those cards is very unlikely. Draft is a different story, but sealed, naw. Good like to finding an answer. So, while constructed block decks for the PTQ season have many ways to answer jitte, it wont get banned. You'd see it banned only in limited, cuz many a game have been won on the raw power of that card.

3 damage for 2 mana; it’s like playing 8 Lightning Helixes, except 4 of them have AIDS.
Well considering I posted that quite a while ago.. yes Ire was pretty janky.. that and the point was the deck would have to be Ire with Jittes which, last time I checked, doesn't usually happen.

i wish to say that this forum is proof that jitte should be banned! there has been several cases like this where ppl are disputing wheather or not it should be banned and most cards ppl discuss like this say skullclamp affinity cards and the like should all be banned mostly just to free up space on the servers but if ppl are discussing it like this and drawing lines in the sand over 1 or 2 cards they should be banned why you may ask cause it is proof that ppl think its too powerful and that there are ppl who like to abuse it so defend the jitte and if you could for example find any old skullclamp topics talking about if it should be banned you will see the exact same arguments there as your seeing here as far as im concerned this shows it should be banned and i also beleive it should be banned in type 2 as well why? because as soon as wotc figures out it should be banned in block ppl will switch to type 2 and try to abuse it and i dont think a single card deserves this much attention where everyone runs it or hate for it its your decision ive decided not to join the jitte crowd im goin anti jitte like manriki and wear away but its your call i beilieve removing jitte will slow the game down immensly but i could use a break from this speed game i think its high time things slowed down or else were going to end up with turn 3 or 4 wins again and i hate that kind of magic i want a game i can sit back and enjoy not a game that is over in 15 min to a single card like jitte or even tooth for that matter to be honest i hopew wizards brings back blue stronger than ever that will slow the game right down and fix the problems your seeing now with turn 5 or 6 game over when your just getting into it. but thats my rant others can feel free to use the jitte in anyway they want and ignore this but i beleive by using cards like this we are destroying the game of magic and turning irt into mindless cardflop[ping like the other card games again just my oppinion honestly i cant wait for ravinca to come in and get rid of the jitte from block so to each there own i guess

one man's rant cannot change the way things work but maybe just maybe i can change the minds of just a few ppl who in turn will hopefully change the minds of a few more and they cycle will continue.
The general point is that the public will clamour to get cards banned regardless of whether they need to be or not... perhaps affinity needed to get hosed... I can agree on that but there was no way ALL of that needed to be banned... honestly Darksteel Citadel just caught caught stray hate.. It even had non-degenerate uses outside of Affinity. Keeping this in mind, and the fact that despite it being PTQ season gifts is starting to win again, there is NO way they will ban the Jitte.

Sorry, but I disagree on this one... not to stray off topic, but to be fair: ALL the decks being played lived off of skullclamp... If you weren't a user , you were often a loser. Jitte is making it's way into a lot of decks, but it's nowhere near in the same league power-wise as skullclamp was. Anyways.
Jitte doesn't need a ban... like Raia said, Gifts is making quite a lot of appearance, and is also taking a lot of high spots. People often overdramatasize "big" cards like Jitte, but will often ignore other cards even though they are equally as powerful. I would argue that Cranial Extraction is just as, if not more, powerful than Jitte... as is gifts potentially. I don't think anyone has really considered getting THEM banned... so if Jitte isn't the best card, why should it be banned?
While I do admit that clamp had to go.. I think it was a close call actually. Sure the clamp was overpowered and sure you couldn't successfully win without one.. but, at the same time, it allowed numerous other deck archetypes a chance to do well. They banned clamp, and look what happened... the format fell into a pit of the same decks over and over again. When clamp was around, you did have the metagame, but there were alot more something/clamp decks that COULD actually win.

That is true, but back in the clamp days, the clamp basically tore open a rift in the space-time continuum; this caused clamp to BE the game. Wizards absolutely hates these kind of metagames, of which I like to call a "black hole metagame".
However, there seemed to be only three tier 1 decks during the clamp season: Raffinity, Goblins, and Elf & Nail. They of course relied all on the clamp to pull off consistent turn 4 kills due to the blazing fast speed of the clamp which makes me reminisce about combo winter...
You are also correct on the fact that Standard broke down after the clamp... but they didn't ban enough cards. Raffinity had to go back then IMO.

Perhaps.. but then again.. look at what happened after.. there were 3 Tier 1 archetypes - Raffinity, Goblins (Bidding), and Tooth and Nail. The banning of clamp changed nothing in this regard. All it served to do was give decks like "elves with clamps" or "my random black jank with clamps" no chance whatsoever. While I agreed that the clamp needed to go, the banning just served to slightly alter the deck archetypes lists... and actually made room for Cranial Plating in Raffinity.

Gifts would be playable in PTQs if players didn't take forever for every damn shuffle, knew their deck inside and out, and didn't screw around. It can be done.
Besides that, Jitte isn't even the best card in the block.............I don't think its even in the Top 5 whereas Skullclamp was the best card in all of Mirrodin block. It alone made Fifth Dawn suck where it had plenty of playable cards, then again we never saw how it could have interacted with them did we? [EDIT: I always wanted to equip a Clamp to a fully Sunbursted Etched Oracle. My god, that would be sweet.]
I was just looking over this thread and I just realized something....
I was right all along................MINDTAKING!!!
I hope that the PTQs (you can see the top 8s from the link in my sig **cheap plug**) have proven ONCE AND FOR ALL THAT JITTE DID NOT NEED TO BE BANNED IN ANY FORMAT

That's good for you.. most people agreed on the fact that there was no need to ban it however so being right is not entirely productive.
Sorry, me being right dosen't happen that often (married, so I'm use to it ) so I gotta self-promote, plus anytime I can get a MINDTAKING shot in....I gots to do it.
I'm also sure there's a few diehards who still want Jitte banned

Jitte should be banned in draft and sealed. CoK block has ways to deal with Jitte:
Splinter
Rending Vines
Wear Away
Terashi's Grasp
another Jitte
ect. ect.

Glacial ray is jank? That's interesting.
Consuming vortex - ever played ire?
Rend flesh - unpopular, but whatever.
