In a forthcoming series of threads this is the CBS thread for the decks to beat. Here you will find the most common decks, an average decklist for the said deck and the way the deck functions. For people new to block this should be the first place you look.
A deck that uses Gifts Ungiven and a Silver Bullet/Utility Belt of spells for whatever situation nessasary. Also uses Hana Kami, Soulless Revivial, and Ethernal Haze to create an infinite lock. Also uses many shuffle effects to abuse Sensei's Divining Top.
Generally considered to be a non-contender for the PTQs. At the Pro Tour rounds were much longer, and being the slow deck which it is, the deck needed all the time. With PTQ rounds being slower you are going to draw at a disturbing rate.
A block White Weenie list. If you do not know what WW is then you have not been in magic long. Fast small creatures that overload your oppenont. Uses Tallowsisp to find and play Cgae of Hands and Indomitable will when nessasary.
Mono-Black/Suicide is pretty good with the addition of Saviors. With huge creatures at many points on the curve and the best removal array in the format it is something to look out for at your PTQs.
P.S. This is a work in progress, I am sure there will be problems however I did not see anything like it and believe every forum needs it to avoid threads like Plastik's. Let me know if there are problems with this thread of if one already exists. Thanks!
Hmmm.. don't forget Kai's Kite Control..... As for MBA, I don't know why Akuba isn't there but its good nonetheless.
Apparently the Akuba build was second. Here's the Little Rock standings if anyone cares.
1- Mono Black Aggro (Ogres, demons, and O-Naginata version)
2- Mono Black Aggro (Wicked Akuba, rats version)
3- G/W/U/B Time of Need deck (Accelerated Bombs)
4- Mono Green Aggro
5- White Weenie (Tallowisps)
6- White Weenie (Tallowisps again)
7- Mono Blue Control
8- Ire of Kaminari deck
So in general we're looking at a broad field.
Mono Black Aggro, White Weenie (with and without Tallowisp), Mono-Black Control, Snakes, Gifts, Accelerated Bombs, Sway, Reanimator, Ire of Kaminari, Kai's :symw::symb: deck, and what..
Some decklists have been popping up trying to abuse the epic spells as well.. this adds..maybe Neverending Torment and Hondens?

Personally I think Talloweenie is crippled by the fact that Tallowisp is a key to the deck. Personally I think a more aggro approach with ghostly prison works better. Actually I can tell you from testing that it works better. Especially against control decks like Gifts and the MUC deck that's going around.
Knowing that Gifts, Sway and MBC can't win in 50 minutes, that leaves us with 3 Aggro decks (plus RDW), two (unreliable) combo decks and ... Kai's WB. (I don't know this deck. Is there a list somewhere ?)
I wouldn't call this a broad field.
We might know that Gifts, Sway, and MBC usually can't win 2 games in 50 minute but that won't stop it from being played. As such, it is still important to factor them in.

MBC is actually capable of winning PTQ rounds. MBC is perhaps the quickest of the control archetypes, because it has better finishing power. it ponders around with a kite/top draw engine, but then it lands Ink-Eyes or Kagemaro and just goes to town.
I have to disagree about one tier assessment there. The U/R Ire decks are pretty vicious and can definitelyhold thier own against most control decks, though the matchup vs. aggro is less favorable. The "bombs" deck; is that the G/W/u legends toolbox dealie? If so, this deck is hella strong right now as I am testing. I would put it up into at least 1.5 but probably right up top with WW and MBA.
The Rock won a PTQ in France. I lost to this guy in quarterfinals and I think it's Tier 1 material. The list is not available yet and I don't remember his deck perfectly. I'll post the PTQ's lists ASAP.
This is the first I've heard of Rock doing anything in this block. If you get me a list, I'll run some tests with it and see if it was a fluke. If not, I'll add it to my list accordingly.
@Mark Rosewater: U/R Ire just hasn't won anything. I think it's gotten 1-2 T8 finishes, which just isn't enough to bump it up. Maybe it should be tier 2, but no higher. Accelerated Bombs (I'm lazy so I shortened the name) is a strong deck, but the fact is that so far, the top spots in PTQ's have all been WW and MBA with the exception of AcBombs' one high finish and that random MGA deck. I noted in my post that it could be 1.5.
for the most part i agree with the assessment, specifically the tier1 analysis. given the hard facts, it is correct. i've read a lot of tournament reports, too, which all seem to indicate that it's true.
i don't think U/R Ire is anywhere near tier1, because, as Mark Rosewater said, its matchup against aggro isn't favorable, and tier1 IS aggro. tier1.5 if it proves itself, but it has to be good against aggro.
MBC, in tier1.5? i haven't actually seen this deck, or Kai's deck, for that matter, finish like the TOGIT deck has. so your tier1.5 is a little hypocritical.
IMHO Snakes and Ire should switch, as should Accelerated Bombs with MBC and Gifts with Kai.dec. just my $.o2, though.
Definetly drop Kai/kite down to tier two, and move G/W/u bombs up to Tier 1.5. I agree with the whole snakes deal Feuerdrache, Ire is non-existant in our local tourneys, where as snakes are 12%- 20% of the meta here in Auckland.
Accelerated Bombs is at the very leats Tier 1.5, and really belongs in the first tier. Why? Because from the two stateside ptq's we have it has won one, and has three other T8's. Thats higher than both WW and Black Hand. Spiritcraft wont be necessary because as said it isn't even on the Tiers. The Spiritcraft deck is simply very bad.
As for the Rock, well it's a decent deck but it isn't as good as accelerated Bombs.

higher than both white weenie and black hand? what are you talking about? those two decks made more t8's and blue envelopes than all the other decks.
Nah don't worry about although I'm sure you'll hear lots of complaints like "Why isn't this Tier 1" or "Why isn't :symu::symr: Splice on here" and such..

Done and Doner. Also I added deck names, made the ToC work correctly, and subtracted color. I need to go find a Global.
Personally I'll probably make some changes but I'll have to test it first.

MBA
WW
Tier 1.5:
MBC
Kai.dec
Tier 2:
Snakes
Gifts
Reanimator
Bombs (could be 1.5)
Tier 3:
Ire

white weenie
mono-black aggro
tier 2 decks:
3-color control
gifts control
snakes
tier 3 decks:

sway combo
nothing else has much prominence to be given a spot on a tier.
Of course.. though I would refrain from commenting on what tiers they are as people will continue to argue.
um, what did you think of my post? should i kill the tiers, or what?
