I still believe splashing for red to provide answers - not threats - is a bad idea. This deck is a deck that wants to accel out its bombs while making sure the opposing side's table stays empty of all creatures.
You have all the answers you'll need for all the archetypes in the maindeck already in forms of ghostly prison (bullet vs. WW) final judgement (pretty much game over for WW and MBA once this happens), jitte (anti jitte as well as killing off random weenies), wearaway (more answers to artifacts / enchantments) and Hokori (vs. gifts ungiven / splice)
There's simply nothing that you can take out in the maindeck for those heroe's demise or cranial extractions and have a stronger deck.
I mean, why else would you believe that splashing a 4th color to have an answer for legendary creatures - which you already have answers for in form of hisoka's defiance, which is actually more versatile than the demise - is a better solution than staying 3 color?
In fact, what WOULD you take out in favor of demise / extraction?
One of the reasons why I put it in there was because I didn't want to have to face the situation where I had to use my own Meloku or creatures to kill my opponent's same creature. In doing so, I would get in a worse board position as I would be facing down several Illusion tokens or a bad position.
In the mirror match-up, I remember using Demise to get rid of my opponent's Meloku. I proceeded to put out my own and in doing so, it forced them to have to use their Judgments to get rid of it. I have more removal spells than they do, thus it gives me an advantage.
Having Defiance, Demise, and Judgments give you an amazing match-up in the mirror. But Demise and it's ability to tap out your opponent or to get rid of problematic cards like Hokori is just as amazing as well. There were numerous times where I did that and it changed what looked to be a win for my opponent, but in return, allowed me to stablize the board and come out winning. If I didn't have Demise, I'm sure that I wouldn't have done so well against White Weenie. It has some decent game against MBA too, as it can get rid of Yukora and any non-Ogres that the opponent may have foolishly played.
There are also times where you just need spot removal to get the last few points of damage in, rather than having to clear the board.
Cranials are just good against random things and they're great in the Mirror, getting rid of your opponent's Yoseis, Melokus, Judgments, and so on before they become a problem. And I assure you that when you look at Wednesday's lists, black will start becoming more of a necessity with some of the decklists coming out, especially from Seattle.

Cranial is a sideboard card to begin with - not something you'd include main deck - which isn't the concern that I was addressing.

alot of version of this deck run 4 jitte maindeck. as I personally dont like playing jittes just to blow up other jittes, which is really why I feel they are in this deck I dropped them. some play with em and some play without, since I have splinter I think I can definately do without and keep the demise in because of its awesomeness against alot of guys.

Hats off to [BB18 & IBTG], you've found something that may be THE deck to beat post rotation.
I think you'll find not running 4x jitte is strictly inferior to running 4x jitte.
Not only is it the best equipment and provides immediate benefit and momentum that can win you the game, but it's also the best jitte-hate card by itself.
Its power level and versatility is off the charts - two swings with it = either -4/-4 removal or +8 / +8 pump or 8 life. And it can be dropped off as early as turn 2 or can be dropped / equipped anytime in between the games with the mana accel you have in this deck.
And you still didn't answer the original concern of my question - what would you take out from maindeck to include the demise ? Which is actually less versatile than the defiance.
Cranial is a sideboard card to begin with - not something you'd include main deck - which isn't the concern that I was addressing.
Compared to the TOGIT control deck that was played by William Postlethwait at the Orlando PTQ, the following changes were made:
+3 Hero's Demise
+2 Cranial Extraction
-1 Time of Need
-1 Sensei's Divining Top
-1 Myojin of Cleansing Fire
-1 Orochi Sustainer
-1 Hokori, Dust Drinker
Considering that I had fewer bullets, I needed fewer Time of Needs. As for the removal of one Top, yes, Top is amazing in a deck with numerous shuffle effects. However, it isn't always necessary to have. I personally get annoyed with seeing other Tops in my top three cards of my library after having one in play. And there were a number of times where I still won games without it. In round five, I drew a Top once against TOGIT, and that was in the game where I lost because my opponent put out an early Hokori.
The removal of one mana accelerator (the Sustainer) hurt me once and that was in the quarterfinals game one. However, it wouldn't have made a difference either way. But against other matches, the fact that I had better business spells in place of it, rather than drawing a simple 1/2 was more important.
Myojin of Cleansing Fire... Yes, it's a mass removal spell, but it's 5WWW. Considering that I was playing in a field where there was a ton of MBA and WW, I'm glad I didn't have him in there. Same reasoning for having one less Hokori.
Extraction still has its uses. You can usually tell what your opponent is playing within the first few turns, so it's not like you're guessing and have no idea of what to call. When I came into the tournament with my deck, I had in mind that I never wanted to lose to Gifts or TOGIT game one, because I knew that those games would last a long time and if they went to time, I wanted to come out going 1-0, so that's why they were originally in my maindeck. However, they still had their uses, even though I didn't play a Gifts deck at all, as I've Extracted my opponent's Whispers, Jittes, and so forth.
Defiance does have its uses. However, if the Legendary Spirit is already on the board and you're trying to get rid of it, it's rather worthless. That's why I still feel that Demise is far better than Defiance.
And yes, you cannot remove Jitte from the deck. It is extremely important in certain match-ups, like MBA for example, where you'd get rid of obnoxious creatures like Marauders. But in general, it's a colorless way to get rid of opposing Jittes early and for cheap.
I'm glad you found a black splash viable Pham, and I agree with you on most points you've covered here, the Jitte has to stay maindeck, as I concur, the match vs MBA builds it is a critical inclusion.
I've never found three tops any less effective than four in testing, to me the forth top is a near-wasted spot for something more constructive. I'm glad to see you've dropped to three also, it's looking really solid bro!
I playtested yesterday for about 5 hours (went about 8-4 against MBA and 2-0 against Mirror) with this deck and it looked like this:
Land: (22)
8x Forest
6x Plains
1x Swamp
1x Island
4x Tendo Ice Bridge
1x Okina, Temple to the Grandfathers
1x Eiganjo Castle
Creatures: (17)
3x Orochi Sustainer
4x Sakura-Tribe Elder
4x Yosei, the morning star
2x Kodama of the North tree
2x Meloku, the clouded mirror
1x Hokori, Dust Drinker
1x Myojin of Cleansing Fire
Other Spells: (21)
3x Time of Need
4x Kodama's Reach
3x Umezawa's Jitte
3x Sensei's Divining top
3x Hero's Demise
4x Final Judgment
1x Genju of the Cedars
Now I'm not sure I like running only 3 tops and Jittes but I don't know what else I would take out. I'm running 2 Meloku cause when I was running one I found myself with one in my graveyard and drawing time of need when Meloku was my only hope. Hokori seems really bad to me, it hasn't helped me in a game yet and since there is gonna be so much aggro at GP Minneapolis I really don't like them in here.
The black splash has seemed to be amazing, in mirror-match it makes me win games and its fine against WW, the only thing it really doesn't do much is MBA but it'll just get boarded out.
3x Ghostly Prison
4x Hisoka's Defiance
3x Cranial Extraction
4x Empty-Shrine Kannushi
1x Genju of the Cedars
This is what my board is looking like right now, my question is are defiances used for extractions or for mirror cause if its for against MBA then then what do I board out. In fact it would be helpful if I knew what to board in/out against all the matchups,(PLEASE HELP)

Out of the maybe 150 games I have played with this deck, I have equipped and swung or equipped and left a blocker ut maybe 5 times out of that. The deck just really does not have time to equip and swing or leave a STE or a Sistainer out- It spends most of its early game developing its base, and when it is done, Jitte is usually just a win-more card. Yosei and Meloku win just fine on their own, and don't really need Jitte to help.
I run 2x Splinter as part of the replacement. Splinter is amazing. It is almost always a useful card, and it shoots O-Naginata as a splash, something that gives htis deck headaches.
I find that running Jitte just to hose other Jittes is subpar, especially seeing as most of the time that is what you will be doing.
Splashing Black gives the deck much needed versatility, especially in the mirror, where it usually comes up to who draws more copies of Yosei. It also gives you answers to things that gives the deck headaches, like being able to CE Seshiro and whatnot.
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.

Hats off to [BB18 & IBTG], you've found something that may be THE deck to beat post rotation.
Yeah, I as well have to say that the black in this deck is pretty awesome. It does tend to draw the odd horrible hand here and there, but what deck doesn't? I am taking a build of this deck to a PTQ this weekend. When it's all said and done, I will get back with how things went.
Yeah, it really draws very smoothly for a 4 color deck, but it can be a little slow against aggro, although if aggro doesn't get out PDQ, then we own em'.
Just curious, but has anyone tested Terashi's Verdict instead of Kannushi? It seems to me that taking out their guys directly would be pretty nice, and you maybe could use it against some of the MBA guys too.
I think Verdict ultimately depends on your metagame. If you're going to see a lot of white weenie, I think that Kannushi is by far the better choice. However, if you're going to see more MBA, then Verdict might be better.
There's got to be something to deal with O-Naginata. I'm thinking of switching my Extractions for Splinters myself, considering that there are way too many people using aggro decks right now and I definitely need a permanent answer to O-Naginata.
How many Splinters do you think are the right idea? 2 seem's like a bit low, especially with top tricks, and O-Naginata is a huge problem. I am thinking about making my art hate look something like this:
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.
I think that Wear Away has a bit more usefulness than Splinter. I mean, once you use Splinter, you're pretty much set. If Jitte is the only artifact in their deck, then you're going to have two extra dead cards in the deck somewhere. Wear Aways are almost useful somehow, somewhere. I would honestly go with 3 Wear Aways, 2 Splinters because of this.
But see most decks run more than just Jitte. Some run O-Naginata, and others run the Jitte-killer. Splinter is rarely a dead card. 2 just seems like too low of a number, even with Top tricks.
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.
i Found this deck to be very good against most MBA decks out there but it seemed to be having trouble when it came to white weenie the mana was never a problem but it just seemed white had an answer to everything this deck did. i don't runn the tendo's i found the leafcallers to be a much better route early game it gets you the added color late game its a chumper. I seemed to favor a couple creatures in the deck meloku, Jugan, and kira, and kodama but this was expected because myojin is just realy expensive and is only viable as a win condition but i used it twice once against WW and once against MBA so its not useless i like having jitte's main deck because i find not only do they answer other jittes twice i found myself equiping a sustainer and winning with just that creature alone. but i need something to help better my WW match the Kaijin of the Vanishing Touch helped a little but i found they just continued the beats in the one m,atch i won i had Kajin equiped with a jitte and a gusari and that seemed to keep him at bay until i got meloku out for the win but there must be something im missing anyone know any good cards for SB against WW. i am playing many more test games as i think the deck is very T1 capable for block and im definitly taking it to next weeks gpt. so let me know any idea's you may have for my deck.
So has anyone else had realy success with this deck it seems to work so would like others oppinions as well
Bring Back, Bring Back, Bring Back my Counterspell to me, TO ME!
one man's rant cannot change the way things work but maybe just maybe i can change the minds of just a few ppl who in turn will hopefully change the minds of a few more and they cycle will continue.
Ok so there aren't very many PTQ's left and I'm going to one on the 27th. After reviewing every deck list I have found that EnduringHondens is actually quite good and I also found out that G/W/U could possibly surprise the field and be succesful. It's a little tweaked from previous versions and this is what I have so far
This deck pretty much beats WW about 80% and it seems fine against gifts cause final judgments work well plus md Hokori usually draw sick shoals which is a 2 for 1 and is fine. The only bad matchup I see is Hondens and I don't know if I should sideboard against them cause there's usually only like one or two of them at a tourney it seems. Input please
You should also really watch out for MBA, seeing as most are running (and rightly so), MB Sinks. I've seen too many games where a 3-Color Legends deck spends the 1st 4 turns accelerateing, only ot run into a Sink for four and die :(. Tis' a gruesome fate.
Jace on the other hand gives you card advantage for no life cost. On the contrary, Jace can actually take some damage for you. I'd think that makes him better than Arena.

I don't know where you play but unless its made some huge comeback, MBA has pretty much died out and is considered Tier 2 so I'm not really worried about that deck, but yes I agree sink would own my deck.

Tier 2? You're kidding me, right? Tier 2 decks do not still regularly place T8 all over the world, FYI. In the last 4 or 5 PTQ's, *at least* 2 Black Hands have placed in every one, except for Detroit which had a showing of one. Does that sound like a Tier 2 deck to you? No, it does not.

So has anyone else had realy success with this deck it seems to work so would like others oppinions as well
one man's rant cannot change the way things work but maybe just maybe i can change the minds of just a few ppl who in turn will hopefully change the minds of a few more and they cycle will continue.
