I plan on working on this deck after BOK comes out because I think it has potential. So now I'm going to start with a brainstorming session. Here's what I have so far. If you don't know the purpose of the deck, go read the cards.
Creatures (20)
4x Myojin of Cleansing Fire
4x Myojin of Night's Reach
4x Body of Jukai
4x Kuro, Pitlord
4x Sakura-Tribe Elder
Other spells (20)
4x Slumbering Tora
4x Zombify
4x Kodama's Reach
4x (new Arcane Shallow Grave)
4x Time of Need
Lands (20)
12x Swamp
8x Forest
The point of the deck is obvios: To play Tora, pitch big scary creatures, and bring them back with Zombify/Shallow Grave. If I pitch a Kuro, then Shallow Grave it, I'm going to nuke their board and hit them for 18.
Any ideas to make the deck better? I want a better target than Body of Jukai, but I couldn't think of anything.
Biggest problem I see is the Myojins can't be brought back effectively. Body of Jukai actually isn't terrible in this case. I'd say in place of zombify try Night-Eyes, as it can be a re-useable zombify. As long as you are playing Myojins, you might as well play the green one as it is an 8/8. The dragons might be good in here, especially the black one if you can get a sac-outlet.

what about the red shoal so you can pitch even more damage at them. also the myojin wont get counters if you reanimate them so it may be wise to take out the myojin of nights reach and put in that beefy green one just because hes big. or maybe find a big creature with trample.
In my opinion, this has much more potential in Block, as the Tora will not get gunned down 8 different ways before doing anything. I also wonder if this is the first definitively Jewish card.

I think this could end up being a good deck, but it needs to take out the myojins, and find other expensive guys, it seems as though it will end up being more of a combo deck. Well, it already is, but it seems like it will be even more of a combo deck. We need to see what the rest of betryers has in store for this deck. Im really hoping that bok will make reanimator, rdw, or blue skies playable, cause i want to be able to play one of those decks in type 2 again.

Hmmm...I'd take out the Myojin and add in Collossus and Kokusho. With the addition of Zombify, I figured you were going Standard here. These are two of the best creatures in standard right now, and I don't really see any reason not to play them. The Myojin won't be as potent as you think since they won't get the divinity counter if you reanimate them.

quadro, the deck cant reanimate any non-spirits, because teh tora only lets you discard spirit or arcane spells. Its not possible to reanimate the collosus anyway, because its gets shuffled back into your library when it goes to the library from ANYWHERE. the deck looks pretty good right now, but it will take lots of tweaking and fine tuning. I am sure there are cards that will make this deck better, and we will have to find them through testing and time.

If it is standard and zombify says that it is. i'd consider running blue instead of green for thirst for knowledge and gifts ungiven(search for 4 reanimation targets who cares which are put in the graveyard) as card draw and alternate pitch mechanisms. Another possibility is beacon of unrest which for B more than zombify is shuffled back into your library, reanimates artifacts and targets any graveyard. If you do go blue you can replace elders and reach with simulacrums and wayfarers baubles or talismans.
what about the red shoal so you can pitch even more damage at them.
Genius, I say. Genius.
Okay, so you have Slumbering Tora in play. You pay 2 and discard Myojin of Infinite Rage, so the Tora becomes a 10/10 artifact creature. Attack with the Tora. If they don't block it, play the Blazing Shoal by RFGing another Myojin of Infinite Rage. The Tora gets +10/+0. Not a first turn kill, but still, 20 damage on the fourth turn or so using 4 cards is pretty decent in my book.
GOD DAMN FIGHT THE MAN, MAN!!! GRRRRRRR REBEL MAN YEAH!!! GET OUT YOUR TIE-DYE T-SHIRTS AND SOME ATOGS WITH PEACE SIGNS MAN! YEAH! LETS GROW OUR HAIR OUT LONG AND COLOR ON OUR MAGIC CARDS WITH SILVER SHARPIES TO REBEL! YEEEEAH!
1) Colossus Can't be reanimated. RTFC. "If ~ is put into a graveyard, shuffle, etc"
2) The Shoal's say "Remove a __ card in your hand FROM THE GAME" so you can't reanimate a creature pitched to it.
3) Shizo, Death's Storehouse reads "Target LEGENDARY creature gains fear until eot". Tora =/= Legendary
Something tells me peeps need to start reading cards before they post their "bombos" (Not-combos)
2) The Shoal's say "Remove a __ card in your hand FROM THE GAME" so you can't reanimate a creature pitched to it.
People aren't trying to pitch a card to be re-animated with it; they're trying to take advantage of any massive fatties they may have in their hand. Since your deck is already running high casting cost creatures, this can give you some extra functionality. After all, attacking for 9 with a re-animated Kuro is nice; attacking for 19 with a re-animated Kuro who has a Blazing Shoal cast on him is nicer.

What I'm saying is why bother attacking with a reanimated creature when you can just attack with the Tora? Yes, I know it's risky and susceptible to artifact hate and blah, blah, blah, but a 20/10 attacking creature on the 4th turn would still be nice.

Geez...I really need to start remembering cards. I blame it on college starting up again :halo:.
Okay, but still, the Myojin don't really belong in this deck since you are banking on NOT playing them from your hand. I think Kokusho's a good bet, but I'm not sure what to put in the other's spot. If you want to use Blazing Shoal, I guess Ryusei could work in the place of the red Myojin as well. It doesn't cost as much as the Myojin, so you won't get that big of a boost, but it is a useful creature to reanimate. In many cases, it will wipe the board clean of most creatures if hits the yard, and its a 5/5 flier. But, I suppose it will take some testing to see which option truly is better.
Machius does have a good point. Gifts Ungiven could be powerful in this deck. Gift up 4 creatures, and let your opponent dump 2 for you :biggrin3:. However, with blue, you'll lose a bit of consistancy with the loss of SakElder...I guess this is another thing that's going to require testing.

Or you could make the deck green/black with just a splash of blue for Gifts Ungiven. If you're having trouble with mana, you can just sac Rampant Growth Guy and reanimate him continuously. :grin2: Just a thought. A silly one, but a thought nonetheless.

someone has already said that we have plenty of non-green mana fixers, like the bauble, solemn, and talismans.
I think we need to look through all the big fat spirits we have, ways of discard and reanimation before we decide what we will run in the deck.

A friend of mine has the cheek to play an extended-reanimator deck chock full of spirits and he even has the cheek to keep on doing well with it.
He abuses Iname, Death aspect to dump a bunch of spirits into the graveyard -he actually reanimates the aspect first. I know, it's not as fast as traditional fattie-beatdown, but it's frighteningly consistent!!

"When you show up to the Mirrodin Besieged Prerelease, you'll be asked to choose a faction: Mirran, Phyrexian, or Jaded A-Hole" Aaron Forsythe, on Twitter
Everything changes, nothing remains without a change - Buddha
Extended Reanimator also has the benefit of having MASS Revival spells like Patriarch's Bidding and Living Death.
I'm fully aware that the Myojins don't get their counter, but go and find me another 9-CC Spirit with an 8/8 body like Life's Web. As for Night's Reach, yeah, it sucks, but it costs 8. I might replace him with Kokusho, but then I have to get Kokusho, and he's expensive.
And I agree that this deck is tEh sux in Standard, but without Zombify right now, it's kinda...crappy. Find me a good CHK-Block card to replace it with, and I'll make it KBC.
I like the Gifts Ungiven idea, but I don't really want to splash a third color. Maybe if I cut the Zombifies and black Myojins, and added Gifts Ungiven and...I dunno what else...Jugan maybe? I have 4 of those, it might work out ok...Here's a KBC build.
Creatures (20)
4x Myojin of Life's Web
4x Jugan the Rising Star
4x Body of Jukai
4x Kuro, Pitlord
4x Sakura-Tribe Elder
Other spells (20)
4x Slumbering Tora
4x Gifts Ungiven
4x Kodama's Reach
4x (new Arcane Shallow Grave)
4x Time of Need
Lands (20)
8x Swamp
8x Forest
4x Island
NOTE: I'd REALLY like to find a Legendary replacement for Body of Jukai, since I'm running those 4 Time of Needs. The more I look at this deck, the more I think "Wow...Kuro is the new Akroma..." He really is insane in here.
EDIT: As big a supporter as I am for the card, do NOT suggest using Forbidden Orchards for mana fixing. Not only can I not search them out via STE/Reach, but the Tora doesn't have Trample. I can't afford giving the opponent any more blocker s than they can pump out themselves.
VERY early sideboard (assuming KBC):
4x Hideous Laughter (5-cc arcane for Tora finisher, and clears away chump blockers)
4x Cranial Extraction (I don't know yet what it will hit, but it would win the mirror and beat random combo decks like Dampen Thought)
4x Wear Away (for Genju/Honden/mirror)
3x Night of Soul's Betrayal (Weenies cause this deck the most problems if I can't hit Kuro, so I need the most answers for it)
Okay i like the new build better, tora definitely suffers in type2 at the moment and gifts as i said earlier is a great addition. You are right though it does need a second reanimation effect and i think that nezumi graverobber/nighteyes the desecrator is the logical choice it's cheap to cast reusable and being black makes it immune to befoul and the new dark banishing-esque spell plus its uncommon and easy to get.
Also for some reason you're using the white myojin when the green one being both more expensive and possible to cast is the better option. The green myojin of life's web and kuro pitlord are both great for the deck but i agree that the body of jukai being non-legendary is a problem, the dragons are definitely a great replacement both kokusho(black) and Keiga(blue) are really strong cards by themselves but jugan's fine ig you can't get them, the main thing is to have a good backup plan to the main tora beatdown stragegy because as you said cranial extraction kills it and splinter is in BoK and will do the same thing.
Hmmm...I'd take out the Myojin and add in Collossus and Kokusho. With the addition of Zombify.
... colloso can't be put into a graveyard... as soon as he hit's it, he runs and get's himself shuffled in the deck...

I must say Cube Drafting is Fun. Since its mostly the only drafting i do.
Attack step ok, oh wait i would like to cryptic command. im sorry its too late to do that.
LMAO. I just now realized that I was posting Cleansing Fire and not Life's Web, like I meant. Edited.
I have a couple problems with Graverobber. For one, it may be resistant to black removal, but Red can still burn it into the ground. Also, it relies on me being able to empty a graveyard to flip. If I don't get this guy in play turn 2, that's not going to be very easy. Now, if I was to test it out, I'd probably sub it in for either Body of Jukai or Kodama's Reach. Either one is risky to remove, but not necessary to run the deck. Well, here's hoping for another high-CC legendary Spirit in Green or Black this set.
Wait, what about Patron of the Orochi? A 7/7 body with a potentially useful ability and a CMC of 8...I think that will work better than Body of Jukai.
Even the "Iname, Death Aspect, Iname, Life Aspect, Myojin of Life's Web"-combo is better:grin2:
Wow, your name is appropriate. First of all, that combo sucks, second of all, this deck has nothing to do with a combo, and thirdly, next time, if you're going to post, post something constructive.
Wow you guys are funny. Um good ideas so far though, the tora is amazing in a reanimator deck since its like zombie infestation on crack. However, probably another reanimation spell would be handy, something that keeps cards in play cuz otherwise you're going to run out of cards fast in hand and on the board. (i.e. why people don't run shallow grave and why they do run exhume)
Nighteyes/Graverobber can get rid of an opponents grave yet too mana intensive. and too fragile. Unfortunately the best spell out there for t2 would probably be beacon of unrest. They shuffle back in, can get back a tora if need be and also would be good against a mirror. Granted they cost 5 but thats how much you'd be paying for Nighteyes.
By the way, Kuro is NOT the new Akroma. Yes he can wipe a board but he is nothing more than an expensive wrath of god. And I wouldn't count on paying his upkeep in a t2 3 color deck.
Also why not run The Unspeakable? He costs 9, is a spirit and has some pretty useful abilities. If the reanimation spell is arcane, he can stay in play and keep attacking, can evade spells like befoul (since he wouldn't be in play during opp turn) and its some pretty heavy beats.
Btw, where is your sacrifice outlet so you can get your spirits back? If t2 I would put in something... possibly Nezumi Bone Reader, Spawning Pit or Blasting Station. Here's an idea to start with:
3 Kokusho
3 The Unspeakable
3 Keiga
3 Myojin of Life's Web
4 Eternal Witness (could put it something else like a sac outlet but i couldn't find room. It can help ramp up mana with the Elder/Reach also get back a discarded creature for the tora again)
4 Sakura Tribe Elder
4 Time of Need
4 Reanimation spell
4 Beacon of Unrest
4 Gifts Ungiven (apparently you can choose less than 4, could choose 2 creatures for a worse Buried Alive)
4 Kodama's Reach

1. Who said anything about paying Kuro's upkeep? I'm giving him haste, nuking their board, smashing for 9, then removing him from the game. He's as effective as Akroma was for 1-turn bashings, if not more so.
2. Unspeakable = Ew. It's only 6/7, it costs UUU to hardcast (something I won't be able to do at any stage), and its effect is pointless. And in a deck with 4 Islands and 8 Swamps, I think I'd have an easier time paying BBBB every turn than UUU once, should I need to hardcast something.
3. Sacrifice outlet? What are you talking about? The point of this deck is to hit hard and hit fast. Once.
4. The. Deck. Is. Too. Slow. For. Type. 2. This has already been stated. Otherwise, Zombify (which is better than Beacon here) would still be in the deck. It's been made into CHK block.
Anyway, I rebuilt the deck, replacing Body of Jukai with Patron of the Orochi.

I'm actually leaning against Dragons here, because most of the time it'll just be a 5/5 Flying for a turn, though they would be the best creatures to hardcast.

I must say Cube Drafting is Fun. Since its mostly the only drafting i do.
Attack step ok, oh wait i would like to cryptic command. im sorry its too late to do that.
Thanks to DarkNightCavalier
Wow, your name is appropriate. First of all, that combo sucks, second of all, this deck has nothing to do with a combo, and thirdly, next time, if you're going to post, post something constructive.
Anyway, any intelligent comments?
Yes. Don't flame.
4 Slumbering Tora
Creatures (20)
4x Myojin of Life's Web
4x Jugan the Rising Star
4x Patron of the Orochi
4x Kuro, Pitlord
4x Sakura-Tribe Elder
Other spells (20)
4x Slumbering Tora
4x Gifts Ungiven
4x Kodama's Reach
4x (new Arcane Shallow Grave)
4x Time of Need
Lands (20)
8x Swamp
8x Forest
4x Island
I'm actually leaning against Dragons here, because most of the time it'll just be a 5/5 Flying for a turn, though they would be the best creatures to hardcast.
