I was thinking about some of the high quality extort creatures and then realized that Whitemane Lion and Kor Skyfisher can both bounce themselves to abuse the extort mechanic. And then realized that since you are going black you can throw in Grey Merchent. Has anyone else already explored this space for deck design in pauper? Or was it just way too underwhelming?
There's a tier-3 W/B aggro deck that uses a handful of extort cards. Here's a mtggoldfish article on it: .
I tried to build a deck going harder on extort fpr a while but it wasn't good enough to even play casually. You get punished too hard for how weak the extort cards are on their own. Tithe Drinker is sweet but everything else is awful. Aggro runs you over too quickly for you to spend much mana on extort, and control kills too much of your stuff to really combo off.
Extort has never struck me as a build around mechanic. I think it's something to consider for a small amount of the deck or potentially a sideboard option.
If you were really doing a deck around it, I'm thinking it would probably fall on the control spectrum somewhere. Have your most resilient extort creatures in play and then kill off their stuff while pinging them for damage each time. Slow and grindy. I suppose it could squeeze into an agro package as a way to break up some stalls, but, it doesn't really seem like a great fit to me
