Hey guys. After finding out I couldn't go to card kingdom's pauper tournament this last weekend, I was excited to find out they're having another one January third. I heard some high tide brew won the last tournament? What should I expect metawise? What decks would be viable? Thanks.
If people are wanting to meta the winning deck, I suppose countermagic would be the answer. This is a blazingly fast combo deck that is probably very consistent. Opponents need to find a way to force the opponent to sideboard into answers, and then control them. Dispel gets just about every important card in their deck. What's the ban list?
Delver seems like it would be good, and it's a fixture in this format, so I would continue to think you should be expecting it.
MBC is always a pretty safe bet as a common deck in the meta.
Other than that, I can only say that you should probably ask some people you know who were at the tournament and see what they played with and against.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah it sounded like High Tide was the breakout deck, beating delver in the finals. It's rumored to be banned this upcoming tournament though, so I'm not sure I'd wanna invest too heavily in it. Delver and MBC were two of the decks I was thinking about building, as they're debatably the two best pauper decks. Any advice in which one, and/or playing tips for them?
The ban list is the online one, plus Sinkhole, Goblin Grenade, and Hymn to Tourach. Any card printed paper or online at common is legal.
Sorry for the semi-necro but I wanted to add the Top 8 Decklists from Card Kingdom's 2nd Pauper event last weekend for those interested. After the first event, High Tide was added to their Banned List (along with the online Banned list plus Goblin Grenade, Hymn to Tourach, & Sinkhole).
Overall some cool decks. I thought the 5th place Reality Blink deck was interesting as well as the Kuldotha Jeskai that was featured in the coverage during the event.
Hadn't realized Spring Tide was such a force in the meta that they had to ban High Tide! I play a peasant version under the legacy banlist in a varied meta - still learning to pilot it properly
I'm amazed neither Spring Tide deck uses Brainstorm! Merchant Scroll and Muddle the Mixture make for good shuffle effects and with lands accumulating, Brainstorm can be really powerful. Having at least 1 as a tutor target for scroll mid combo when lands accumulate, or to protect against discard, seems mandatory to me. No Gitaxian Probe either - a mistake IMO. Knowing if someone has instant speed interaction before playing Snap on a Cloud of Faeries can be crucial.
I really like Mystic Remora in Wong's SB - hadn't thought about it but it's such a strong option, letting you develop your land base while your combo/control opponent has a hard time doing anything. Deep Analysis as a 4x sideboard card seems really weird though. Anyone care to explain that one?

Oh cool. A friend of mine sent me an Excel file they put out with the names of the decks and players, but no lists. I figured after the first one they would align their ban list with the MTGO list since there was a ton of stuff that looked way to tough to deal with.
Acid Trip and Jeskai Kuldotha are both becoming really popular decks online and I'm sort of surprised it took that long for people to realize that Kor Skyfisher is a card worth building a deck around.

Brainstorm is one of those cards that people in other formats think is bonkers in Pauper, but really without fetchlands it's probably the 3rd or 4th best one-blue draw card. In this Tide, I don't think you really want to shuffle land away since Oona's Grace is your main win condition.
EDIT: I realize since you mentioned "Wong" that you probably already had that link. From what I can guess Deep Analysis is good against MBC's discard. Not sure though.
Galspanic: Oona's Grace is only good when you've gone infinite as 3 mana to draw a card is too resource intensive mid combo. OTOH, once you've gone infinite you don't really need to draw anything else except your wincon... which is Oona's Grace... so it's not really something you're gonna be fueling with lands stuck in your hand much.
As for Brainstorm, yeah it does get worse without shuffle effects, but mid combo you're drawing so many cards anyway that you're bound to get one. Anyway, 4th place Tapia picks Serum Visions and Impulse over Ponder (maybe he couldn't get them?) as well, so I'll take the card selection with a pinch of salt.

I have no idea how High Tide did so well, but there you have it...
I'd probably go with a UB Angler deck after looking at that.

High Tide would be banned before it was printed on MTGO, so no surprise that they adjusted.
