I'm pretty hype about Pioneer and want to build two of my favourite standard decks up again, but with the natural upgrades Pioneer gives access to.
Would love to make an Esper control list again too, but money...
My only worry is, I thought stuff like Heart of Kiran (and Mardu Vehicles) would be very strong again, but I don't see any lists running any of the cards from this deck, so I'm a little worried how ***** it actaully is. I'm just thinking with the really strong mana base, that it's easy to have access to stuff like Assassin's Trophy, abrupt decay, Thoughtseize instead of Duress in the sideboard, Find // Finality could be sick too.
I haven't made a proper list yet, I'm just curious and wanted to ask what you guys think I should keep an eye out for. I'm pretty hype to be playing it again, but it would be nice to have a build that doesn't get annihilated hehe.

I think the current think to note about Heart of Kiran is that it depends on how you crew it. It was good in Mardu vehicles especially because of cards like Toolcraft Exemplar. Being able to crew it with a one drop is nice. The other way it was played was in superfriends style decks, because you can crew it with planeswalkers. The problem with your suggested list here is what you would have available to crew it. Is it really worth crewing with cards like Steel Leaf Champion or Rhonas the Indomitable? Probably not. Ghalta, Primal Hunger? Definitely not. Right now people are playing Smuggler's Copter, as it provides card selection, can be crewed with mana dorks, and its not banned, yet. Maybe Heart of Kiran will be good in the right build at the right time, but right now it just doesn't look as great in the format. If you are going to eschew Pelt Collector, I would definitely go the route of also playing Elvish Mystic, and then if you play Smuggler's Copter you have 8 potential 1-drop crewmates. Pelt Collector is also a decent route, but know that it won't be triggered by your vehicles.
Hey man, thanks for the insight!
I honestly just forgot about Smuggler's Copter hehe, it was banned when I was in the deep end of Standard, so I never really considered it, but I can see it's roughly a billion times stronger in this deck than Heart of Kiran.
I guess I just have a weak spot for Heart of Kiran and this deck in general, because it was when I was having the most fun and was doing really well at various FNM events. I just love the art direction on stuff from Kaladesh / Aether Revolt, and it was just when I was getting back into Magic again.
I'm just surprised Mardu Vehicles hasn't popped back up again since it has access to some insanely strong planeswalkers that also crew Heart of Kiran, but I guess that's a discussion for another thread hehe.
I LOVE Pelt Collector, but I'm not sure it'll work outside of a Hardened Scales / Constrictor style +1/+1 counter synergy deck, but I'll definitely give it a go. I'm big into decks with that synergy and I was amazed when I first saw it spoiled.
I'm playing with some friends of mine tomorrow. I'll be making my deck then. I'll try and report back with my initial thoughts and maybe get some directions on where to go from there.

So, my idea is to rebuild my B/G Steel Leaf Stompy deck from around August 2018 (when I had the most "success" playing) full of cards like Llanowar Elves, Steel leaf Champion, Scrapheap Scrounger, Rhonas The Indomitable, Heart of Kiran, Ghalta, Primal Hunger, Vivien Reid, Blossoming Defense and other good stuff.
Not to mention Once Upon a time and Veil of Summer being released since then.

Pelt Collector is probably too slow, I think I want more spells than Nullhide Ferox lets me play and is it worth it running 4 Elvish Mystic along with the 4 Llanowar Elves to enable more turn 2 Steel Leaf Champion plays?
Is Heart of Kiran really that bad? is it even worth running with an aggro deck?

Steel Leaf Champion isn't supposed to crew any vehicles unless I have no other choice. The deck was mostly made so I could either get a turn 2 Steel Leaf Champion out, or drop a Heart of Kiran and have different options like Scrapheap Scrounger or Greenbelt Rampager (You could crew it before it went back into your hand if you didn't have energy) and then have a Blossoming Defense up too.
