Been playing this deck since around the first ixalan set. I'd play it on FNMs, showdowns, and other small "tournaments" over the week. My LGS has some fairly competent/competitive players who mostly play meta decks. Between rivals of ixalan and the first ixalan i had a record of 93-70-7, with most losses being to pre ban ramanup red. Since the ban I've had alot more success vs red decks. I did play it at a single pptq, where i started out 3-0 then lost to the two red decks that ended up being 1st/2nd in the event and were likely the two best players at the event.
that was my first iteration of the deck. With the release of the 2nd ixalan set I've added Mastermind's Acquisition so i don't lose to a single Lost Legacy games 2/3, cutting out the red cards. I still run bolas for funsies, even tho I've never won a game where I've cast him
I've cut red cards, and other finishers in exchange for counter magic and Masterminds. I've cut gideon for a 3rd compass, since the I'm trying to essentially do the same thing with them except gideon is much more vulnerable, and winning via attack is a very rare occurrence.
The majority of the time the deck wins by casting approach. However against slower decks, with 9 deserts milling with the Ipnu Rivulets happens quite often as well. Games will go long, and you build up your deserts and eventually shoot their deck for 8 a couple turns in a row to win the game. In games where you side in Regal Caracal, always keep in mind you can sacrifice Hashep Oasis or Shefet Dunes for additional life gain when attacking.
I also want to try to somehow fit a Ramunap Excavator so i can recycle my desert effects
