Yeah, Narset, Parter of Veils is nuts against this deck. I was very fortunate in my matches against my opponent that I had a fat ram out and just pushed damage through to kill her or steal her using one of the theft spells.
Thankfully, very few people main board her in my meta. Most players opt to mainboard Teferi (and sideboard Narset) instead and, IMHO, Teferi is downright crippling if I’m not holding a counterspell in my hand. Being unable to answer any of my opponents spells while they can freely use their sorceries at instant sped is just lame. The abuse on this card is growing too. About three (four?) weeks ago, I called someone out for casting a creature using Teferi to block another players attacking creatures. He took the creature back but I’ve played against this opponent playing this deck for weeks prior and he makes this “mistake”? Bollocks.
Outside of cards like Negate or Veto, what are our options?
I am now playing Opt instead of the 2 mana see 4 sorcery. And also playing Shivan Fire instead of Lava Coil main. Kinda tired of only being able to cast 1 thing at a time and I like it a lot so far.

Just played against a really cool gates deck running Golos, Tireless Pilgrim and Field of the Dead. His activated ability is frankly insane in this deck (although having to run all five colors might be a bit much sometimes). When he had a field and a Guild Summit, it was an insane carddraw and creature factory machine. Ran me out of the game super quickly. For a bit more info, he got a Time wipe, and Dreadhorde General all for free while pumping out almost 15 zombie tokens in just a couple turns. Might be worth thinking about for this deck.
My first two matchups were against nearly identical Rakdos decks and I was completely slaughtered. nearly every game was over within five or six turns. The only good game I had was game 2 against my 2nd opponent when he couldn't draw a second swamp and I successfully played Archway Angel followed up with a Quasiduplicate catapulting me to 43 life and began gaining three life every turn as I went into a loop with Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar as my opponent kept drawing enough removal to consistently kill my creatures. My opponent conceded and we went into game 3 where my opponent proceeded to slaughter me.
I knew Rakdos would be a problem for me when I saw hints of it two (three?) weeks ago and my preparations did jack for me. The most annoying creature was Dreadhorde Butcher. If comes down on turn 2, I usually can't even cast anything to get rid of it unless I can accelerate my land drops to get ahead of those counters or exile it. No matter what, it's usually, at a minimum, a 4/4 creature. With the combination of direct damage, haste and pump, I'm usually already at <10 life by turn four or so.
My last opponent was a GW deck with that annoying Nissa, Who Shakes the World and Ajani. I crushed him Game 1 without seeing Nissa. He let slip he had Nissa so I swapped in my Vetos and sat on them to get rid of his planeswalkers. The strategy didn't work very well because I didn't draw my white sources or Circuitous Route. I eventually managed to blow up his creatures with Gates Ablaze and slow the game even further by attacking Nissa. Ugh...
I guess I wasn't the only one having a bad night either. A lot of salty players. One player even slammed his cards down on the table in frustration.
It seems that having eight sets in rotation and M20's broad spectrum selection of cards is frustrating a lot of players trying to pinpoint good strategies.
My meta has shifted on its toes. Theres not a lot of aggro right now although some honorable mentions in Feather and Vampires (both of which are challenging decks to face).
I just made some changes to my list to include Scapeshift and Field of the Dead. Sadly I don't have all the copies I'd want right now but I'll see how it goes. Scapeshift seems quite busted and this deck needs to do busted things.
I was feeling under the weather and FNM last night was bad, placing 11 out of 20. There was also a bit of a distraction involving some damaged property and at least one individual dropping out. (I have no clue what happened.) There was one other Gates deck running Field of the Dead though I have no idea how he did. I recently picked up a FotD play set and still have two Scapeshifts from a prior experimental deck. So I might look at a few lists to get some ideas how to put it all together. I’ll take ideas.
Round 1 - 0-2-0 - Rakdos
This was a bad matchup period. I was not feeling good and made way too many misplays in both games. It was hard to concentrate due to congestion. The medication I took about an hour earlier still haven’t kicked in.
Round 3 - 1-2-0 - Rakdos
A nearly identical deck to Round 1. Got mana screwed and game was over in four turns. Game 2, I managed to cast Archway for 10 life and used three board wipes to stay in control of the board until I cast Ram for the win. Oddly, I managed to win despite sitting on four dead blue cards due to color screw. Game e was just typical Rakdos. Was getting hit for 8 by turn 3. Yay....
Round 4 - 2-0-0 - White Ajani.
Targeted Ajani Planeswalkers and Ajani’s Pridemate and ignored nearly everything else on the board while I built my board presence.
Strangely, none of the Rakdos decks placed in the top 5. Does this imply that there are Rakdos specific counter decks trumping them? Any ideas what that would be? I wish I kept track of the other matchups this week so i could see what was being played.
Did you get color screwed because of Field of the Dead?
No, I got the Field of the Dead too late in the week to build the deck for it. I also managed to complete a play set of Risen Reef last week as well so I'm going to see which deck I want to build next week depending on which cards I already have.

This is what I'm playing. Can't say its that good though, the metagame has diversified a lot:
I have a similar problem. A lot of players at my LGS know I play 4c Gates and slotted in a few cards to deal with the deck. Caught them by surprise by bringing in a completely new deck and placed second only because my last match ended up as a draw.
I’ve been looking at a few deck lists for Field of the Dead and it’s unclear to me why many of the decks appear to be “split”. With half the deck having very strong support for Gates and the other half in support of FotD. Splitting the focus of the deck dilutes the spells that depend on Gates like Gatebreaker Ram.
This is my latest list, I like it a lot better. Still loses to Narset though. I could've won FNM yesterday but punted hard on round 3 against Dinosaurs. I had the option to cast double Gate's Ablaze to take out his team and didn't because it was still "safe" to wait. Turns out it wasn't because he topdecked Ghalta and even with double Gates Ablaze the Dino was too big... Next time I'll be more careful. Afterwards on game 2 he just went off and had over 20 power by turn 4 with haste... lesson learned.
Currently testing Narset's Reversal, The Immortal Sun and Augur of Bolas. All of them seem quite promising and better than what I've been playing. I think Knight of Autumn is no longer needed.
Have any of you tried playing Lightning Strike in the maindeck?, it could be an answer to Narset and other Walkers that get low on loyalty, as well as being removal against a lot of stuff.
I'd go:
-1 Depose // Deploy
-1 Fight with Fire
-1 Shivan Fire
+3 Lightning Strike
Or maybe leave in Depose//Deploy and play 2 copies of Strike.
I've stopped playing 4C Gates for about three weeks. Actually, I stopped playing paper Standard. The meta has gotten extraordinarily gross and I don't feel like investing further in paper cards this close to rotation.
Gold fishing strategies against decks centered around Field of the Dead, Risen Reef and/or Agent of Treachery isn't yielding very good results. If a deck just employs one of these cards, I can find the strategy to beat it. If the deck uses two or three of these cards, then I can't find the strategy without involving a greater degree of luck.
Of course, there are a number of sideboard cards that can be utilized. I just haven't figured out which ones ywt.

rams have trample and colossuses cant be blocked by creatures with 2 or less power......
gates ablaze and deafening clarion take care of creature swarms. Im just saying on this thread that if people already had the cards they can play the deck and on that note what new cards would be improvements if any, what SB cards would be included and what do you think the metagame will look like?

That's the rub, when playing against blue, the eight board wipes might as well be four or fewer thanks to the counter spells.
TBH I'm not sure, I'm guessing Unmoored Ego and Dovin's Veto might prove valuable. Playing the new Adventure cards shows me that there's going to be a few cards that are going to be absolute headaches, such as Giant Killer and Hypnotic Sprite.
A few games end up with creatures just out of reach of Deafoning Clarion. So I considered sideboarding Massacre Girl and Order of Midnight for slightly less conditional board wipes. But my deck has to choose between W or B and doesn't support both.

I went with Anticipate for that reason as well. It helps to get around Narset, Parter of Veils.

Round 2 - 2-0-0 - UB Mill
Ashiok, Dream Render, Psychic Corrosion, Ob Nixilis, the Hate-Twisted and Jace, Wielder of Mysteries. Round 1, I had to mulligan down to 5. I raced to offset my card disadvantage and managed to curve on all of my land search and drops before Ashiok hit the board. Game 2 my opponent hit me twice with Thoughtsieze. Despite being low on life, 12 lands in play and was down to about 20 cards when I my game winning combo presented itself. Archway Angel, Quasiduplicate, Narset’s Reversal in my hand and Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar in the graveyard. The medicine was finally clearing my head up.
Round 3 - 1-2-0 - Rakdos
