So, I’m a beginner in magic (I’ve played enough to know the basic rules and how the game works) and I’ve recently built a deck. It’s my first and as such I, too, don’t expect it to be perfect. Any advice on how to improve it and how to improve my deck building skills in general would be gratefully accepted. I would also love to hear suggestions regarding my sideboard (I have none).
I’m not a huge fan of cards like Quench. They’re great between turn one and four but a hard to cast lame duck any time after turn four. I’d consider hard counterspells a like Thought Collapse or more specialized answers like Dovin’s Veto depending on your meta.
Pacifism was a great card 20 years ago (the Mirage art is still my favorite) it’s lost a little bit of the luster due to how obscenely powerful newer creatures are now. Consider a card like Feather, the Redeemed that simply don’t care if it can attack or not. Then keep in mind that there are the usual counter measures. This is a pure meta decision bough so up to you.
I’d have to think a bit more about your creatures. They’re going to die, period. So I might add stuff to bulk them up a little bit, such as Sephara, Sky's Blade
I would choose your cards based on what you’re seeing. For instance, I would choose Conclave before Prison for the increased flexibility in both casting cost and target.

Cerulean Drake you want four. Definite sideboard.
Spectral Sailor is a beast for draw and gets a lot of hatred.
Rally of Wings for surprises.
Empyrean Eagle for robustness.
Gods Willing to slough off direct spells.
Gideon’s Sacrifice is very situational.
Conclave Tribunal, Prison Realm and/or No Escape all for dealing with Planeswalkers.
