Standard Proven Forum Rules In addition to these rules, please read the Standard Competitive forum rules, and the General Forum Rules, which both apply here as well. Violations of the forum rules will result in warnings or infractions, and may result in removal from the Standard Competitive usergroup.
Budget discussion (defined as any card availability issues whatsoever) is strictly forbidden. For the sake of the discussion, please pretend like you have all the required cards for the deck in question, even if you don't.
The "[Official] Tournament Reports Thread" is for tournament reports only. No discussion is permitted there.
Thread prefixes are mandatory when making new threads. These are explained a little further down in this thread.
Make sure you're not posting a redundant thread. This would for example mean posting a [Vs.]-thread discussing the matchup against Wolf Run Ramp when there is already a thread for that purpose.
Discussion of spoiled cards must be confined to the Standard New Card Discussion subforum. New sets are okay to discuss in the rest of the Standard forum the moment Wizards has published the entire spoiler. Post-rotation discussion is also not permitted until the new block has been fully spoiled.
Functional deck tags are required. This thread explains how to use deck/card tags.
Do not copy and paste deck lists from MWS, as they do not work within deck tags.
For Single Card Discussions (SCD), using card tags is mandatory.
Thread Prefixes Add these to the title of new threads you post in the Competitive subforums (you can choose the one you want in the dropdown box to the left of the title box). This is to keep the forum as streamlined and spam free as possible. If you're unsure which thread prefix to use, please ask one of the moderators.
[Variant] - Discussing a variant of an archetype (example: Dungrove Green in the Wolf Run forum).
[Vs.] - Discussion of a matchup analysis (example: Illusions vs. Tempered Steel).
[SCD] - Single Card Discussion.
[Q+A] - Seeking answer to a specific question, which should be stated in the title (example: Should we be looking for a mana dork in all of our starting hands?). Also, no rules questions.
[Sideboarding] - Discussion of sideboard strategy.
[General] - This is the prefix that we will ask you to use if your thread doesn't fit in any of the above descriptors.
[Primer] - A deck primer. We'll have up to one Primer thread per deck. Explanation below.
Primers A primer is an indepth opening post of the deck thread that's kept up to date, allowing people who aren't familiar to read through and get an understanding. Primers are highly suggested, and normally have, but are not limited to, the following...
Introduction: Why this deck/idea? What's special about it? Why do you think it'll succeed?
Deck list (w/tags): You want people to know cards you're talking about, right?
Card Choices: Why did you pick the cards you did? What cards did you almost include, but didn't? What cards did you outright say 'NO' to, and why?
Strategy/Matchups: Any special synergy, or combos? How do you play the deck out against aggro, aggro/control, combo, etc? What's the battle plan, general?
History: How has the deck changed/evolved over time?
Record: How have you done? Any tournament reports, etc.
Also, try to make the primer pleasant to look at. Use different tags such as italics, various sizes, colors, pictures, etc; and try to use good language (proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling...).
When you write a primer, please contact a moderator, who will stick the thread if seen fit. If there is already a stuck primer thread for a certain deck, please refrain from posting another, unless that primer is outdated and abandoned by its creator (in this case, also contact a moderator).
If you have questions, concerns or comments regarding these rules, or anything related to how the Standard forum is run, please post them in the "Open Discussion on Standard Forum Rules, Policy and Setup"-thread, or message them to one of the Standard Forum moderators.
