I'm wondering what people's thoughts are on Scavenging Ooze as a maindeck option? It seems like an excellent roadblock against aggro, and late game is a much better topdeck than Voice, since it just becomes huge while gaining you life.

normally i would be iffy using this over voice of resurgance as your aggro block, but if played with archangel of thune it could become extremely lethal. think of it as a one mana gavony township....
That actually seems like a pretty sweet replacement for Resto/Thrag once those two rotate, but for next three months those just seem better, and I don't know what else in the deck could be replaceable by the Archangel.
And this deck seems super well positioned against Aggro anyways, that it might be worth replacing Voice with Ooze just because Ooze is a much better threat against midrange? In my own experience this deck excels against both aggro and control, but its weak spot is against other midrange strategies since generally they just have better removal. Would Ooze be a better two drop just since it can disrupt Junk AND be a huge threat by its lonesome?
Archangel, Centaur Healer, Scavenging Ooze, Sphinx' Rev and a few other things make this look like a pretty sexy setup going forward that lowers our curve and ups our power level without having to dump our mana into activating township.
I for one will be using Ooze and Voice together. Multiple powerful 2 drops is one of the things that makes so many decks in Legacy potent. I am looking forward to it.
well im probably thinking to far in advance, but heres my question, which is probably one bant, jund, and naya players are asking themselves right now. while we are going down to only 1 mana dork, gyre sage can alleviate some of that problem. the biggest question, in my opinion, is HOW WILL WE REPLACE FARSEEK? its a card that has defined the midrange format this year and im worried that it will turn out to be a serious blow to this deck
Bingo. There's no real way to tell what we'll get in that department once Theros hits, but it's fair to speculate that we will get some kind of dork or 2 cmc ramp spell, even though farseek is irreplaceable. I say don't worry about it, the meta will be drastically different then anyway.
i still think with m14 any the OP of seleysna any deck thats runs a G/W core will be well placed... i just cant decide whether bant of naya will add the best supporting spells

I hope you're right about theros, otherwise this will literally be the first standard ever without a 1G green non-creature accelerant. And mana bloom doens't count.
Guys there are still 3 months and 250 unspoiled cards before any of that matters. Let's wait until we have the full story instead of clogging the thread with rampant speculation maybe?
So! What I have been wondering is, once we have Elvish Mystic to throw into the mix, what combination of mana dorks should we be running? I've been considering a 3/2 or 4/2 split for Avacyn's Pilgrim/Elvish Mystic, since i feel like having more than just 4 mana dorks in the deck will make our turn 2 three-drop much more consistent. And not having to dilute the mana base to support Arbor Elf is a huge benefit.
So how many mana dorks does that mean we should be running? Stick with 4, or go up to 5, 6, or beyond?
i can see 5-6, i understand wanting the flexibility of having more then four, but 7 or two playset should cause too many topdecking problem that will outweigh their earlier value

This man speaks the truth! Speculation about Theros will have to wait, we have a ton of new toys to play with in the meantime.
Personally, I think the simple potential addition of a 100% consistent set of new mana-dorks is enough to go back to the drawing board. Those are big questions, and it all depends on what the endgame objectives of the deck are, as to how many dorks we want, and which ones. How big the deck optimally wants to go will be largely determined by the rest of the format. There's a lot of merit in some of the newer lists just running 4x Avacyn's Pilgrim and 4x Farseek I think, with just 1x Aetherling + 1x Angel of Serenity along with cutting Garruk, Primal Hunter. The objective here is obvious; to run a lower curve, less bombs, and make the deck more streamlined but faster. But that also places strict limits on your bomb count, and which ones make the cut/stricter evaluations on what pulls the most weight in a given game state.
The short answer here is that there really isn't a correct number at the moment, and the long answer is that we've got a lot of work to do to figure out what the mana framework should look like. I've got a lot more to toss in on critiquing our beloved deck, and what to possibly change in the deck in another post coming up soon!
Yo dawg Frites Player, we herd you liked getting 1 for 3'd by Angel of Serenity, so we put some Angels in your Angel (Avacyn) so you can get chained while you get exiled. ANGELCEPTION.

This...I feel that a lower curve emphasizing more dorks and capitalizing on either gavony or wolf run is a good way to start, by running a lower curve you can stand better chances against hyper aggro, and can also fight other midrange decks without having to be put on your heels until you can resolve an AoS or zegana or sphinx for a ton. Plus with Aetherling a thing now, multiples of AoS can be placed in the side for the midrange mirror while a Game 1 Aetherling or AoS will often be enough to end the game. Incorporating Scavenging Ooze should also be a top priority, i don't own voices and personally I don't see the need for them with control being much less of a thing atm, i believe the ooze probably plays better against aggro and is less restrictive on the mana base, against midrange if i see one late game I know for a fact i'm probably getting a mini thragtusk for 5 or 6 mana
I feel like Hydra/Archangel is good, but it's just not nearly as good as Resto/Thrag. Mostly because Resto and Thrag are both fantastic on their own, and both impact the board immediately when they come into play. Hydra and Arch do not.
Arch/Hydra could be a decent replacement for Resto/Thrag once those rotate, but while the tried and true buddy cop pair are still around, they seem like a much more solid option.
while they dont have those instant enter the battlefield affects, they still have a strong affect on the board. i feel that the archangel/ ooze combo is a better example. the OP of a one mana gavony township...
Well after being curious of this deck for awhile, I finally scratched out a nice little list and built it on paper. I feel as if Garruk, CoB is an excellent addition to this deck. Hard casting Thragtusk and then using his -3 to immediately cheat out Zegana just feels like the most over powered thing in the world! From what I have been seeing, my list is very creature heavy compared to most, seeing as I run 32 creatures. Obviously, you kind of need to build your deck different if you have Garruk CoB, for every non-creature spell in you deck makes him worse. He has been excellent every time I have cast him, and he does every thing your deck wants him to do. The things he can do are so powerful it almost feels like cheating. I am just wondering how many people are on this guys bandwagon here. Do you guys like him here or not?
Honestly, although Garruk CoB has really been over achieving, I do want to test Garruk Relentless here. Relentless fits really well in my curve, and although he doesn't quite give the same raw card advantage, his tutor effect can grab you Zegana whenever you need her. I also think his ultimate is more game breaking than Caller of Beasts, as trample is something this deck really wants and Caller of Beast emblem just seems like win-moar.
Anyhow, this is my initial rough sketch. It used to have 26 lands but I was flooding out too much. So far, 25 has been pretty good, but I am considering going to 24.
No sideboard yet....still trying to test and see what the bad matchups are. I imagine Burning Tree Emissary decks will be tough to beat so I know Unflinching Courage needs to be there in some number. Thanks for the read...lemme know what ya think.

10 mana dorks seems... excessive, to say the least. How have you been fairing without any sort of reactionary spells (outside of Resto)?
And CoB seems like he might actually be a bit better in the right deck, and I think your style of deck (with the fatty-boom-boom creatures) is a great place to start. I'd still probably prefer Relentless in decks with Gavony Township.
So with 10 mana dorks... why no Gavony? It seems like it would be pretty amazing in your deck.
i think you should consider pulling out 4 mana dorks and bringing in 4 farseeks. lands are much harder to destroy and presents you with a more flexible plan. while i know 3 drops are your main priorty theres still nothing wrong with a t3 thragtusk while holding up a t2 selesnya charm.

Yeah Gavony is going in for sure. I just wanted to test the mana base BEFORE throwing in the non-colored lands. Since the only blue card is Zegana, I can probably afford to cut that. Additionally, Elvish Archdruid just seems more powerful to me than Centaur Healer so he may get moved to the sideboard.
As for your first question, it's been going ok but I wouldnt call it incredible. Against some decks its not really an issue, against others it is. This deck should honestly just be more powerful than any other mid range deck, so they should have to react to me and not the other way around. Control decks are the only decks that really have better end games so you play a little different against them, but at the same time, they I can't think of anything they do that would make me want O-Ring or S-Charm. Seems like a better answer is to just bash face and try to race for card advantage. This deck holds up pretty well to Supreme Verdict anyhow.
@nwrobinson
I could possibly go down the Farseek path later on. Right now 10 dorks has been perfectly fine. Sometimes I top deck them late game and it's kind of annoying, but top decking a Farseek late game is even worse. I just want to give my Garruk more opportunities to hit off his +1. If you think mathematically, since a little over half of my deck is creatures, on average Garruk draws about 2.6 cards off his +1 activation which costs no mana to use. Its pretty insane when you think about it! I just want to bury people under piles of card advantage and the dorks help me accomplish that. Believe it or not, sometimes they do get to swing in for some damage here and there too. I'm not ruling it out as a possibility though, I have only just begun testing so theres a lot I'm still figuring out. Perhaps the most glaring recent discovery is that I can stay toe to toe with most decks on turns 1-3 even without dorks, but having a lack of things to do with 4 mana has been a problem. I basically need to skip the 4cmc spells and ramp into the 5 drops or things start getting ugly. If I'm still casting Smiters on 4 mana, I'm usually fine, as there is rarely a point in the game where Smiter isnt good. But if I'm still casting dorks and Voices at that juncture, I'm usually praying to god for some sweet top decks.
The early creatures were chosen for their flexibility and ability to slow down the opponent. They do a great job at setting up garruk relentless. On the other hand, they also have the ability to swing in for early damage and create a decent offense.
Garruk relentless is probably the best card. There are a few situational creatures in there just because he can fetch them - Lavinia of the Tenth, Armada Wurm, and to a lesser extent Restoration Angel and Prime Speaker Zegana. Of course, you can always just chain Strangleroot geists if you're tight on mana.
The deck has a lot of decisions and it's pretty fun to play. No one knows what's coming and you can steal a lot of games knowing they don't know what you're going to do.

Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.

I like this list. I was talking to my friend today about this deck post rotation and were pretty much on the same page. I didn't think of Archangel she seems nuts in here.
I played against Rakdos Aggro (2-0), BU Cifka control (2-0), BW Midrange (2-1), and Mono U Tempo (2-1) respectively. I'm going to try removing the Syncopates for two Advent of the Wurm and one Detention Sphere. I realized part way through the first round that another big body for Zegana is key and Detention Sphere is simply amazing with less Abrupt Decays around.
A guy at my LGS has never lost a game with this. The only rotating cards he plays is Thragtusk, Gavony, and Gurrak Relentless, and Avacyn's Pilgrim. Granted, their awesome cards, but not having them does not make it unplayable.
We still get Jace, Architect of Thought, Garruk Caller of Beasts, Voice of Resurgence, Clone, Prime Speaker Zenga, Aetherling, Sphinx, etc... Plenty of amazing cards to make this deck something, the only thing missing truly will be the mana base. It will be hard to run 3 colors, but not impossible.
I tried making this deck today and I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I'm going to keep messing with it but I'll post it later for suggestions.

I realized part way through the first round that another big body for Zegana is key and Detention Sphere is simply amazing with less Abrupt Decays around.
Will it still be viable?
