I actually like the second list a lot more. Although I would want to try and squeeze in that fourth bitterblossom somehow... It's something you want to lay out turn two as consistently as possible.
How effective is profane in your deck? I like Profane more for the "Kill a dude, get a dude back" aspect as it's a board swing in your favour, but with your guys being pretty expensive and not being many of them, how would you rate it?
Also: Underworld dreams in the SB? What's that for?

I think Joker is testing dreams for the fae MU. Though if it could stay on the table it could help against lark too.
As for profane, it has never disappointed me, and it doubles as a way to keep the cards coming by bringing back urchins. In this deck, all the modes of profane can be useful at times.
I have found in my testing that a resolved Head Games against Lark, Merfolk, Faeries, and Ramp = gg. You shuffle away all their gas and give them stuff that doesn't matter to you(preferably non-land stuff) like coldsteel heart, wall of roots, BoP, small elves, etc.
I know, I just post the list for educational purposes.
Splashing is good for MBC. Unfortunately most MBC players (like me) feels that splashing a MBC deck makes it less "pure" lol... it´s funny but its a strange behaivor that i´ve found on MBC players.
BTW, this deck needs at least 4 accelerants to play damnation on 3.
I deff agree, I would stick to mono black or play a whole different type of deck.
The question is do we need 4 damnation md? Or is 3 enough? Im not seeing that much aggro in my meta... but will it shift because of hollywood? (like every1 running B/G elves?) Tomorrow will tell i guess!
@Dark Spawn: My current build uses 3 Damn main and 1 Damn side. Pretty much BtQ can fetch things you need, when you most need them, so it's not full-on essential to overload on the mass-removal unless your meta is infested with aggro.
However, I agree that the full results will tell us what to think of the upcoming metagame.
@Memnarch - What sb are you running now? Im thinking bout finding place for like 3-4 Deathmark.... I smell more and more elves and doran being played... and less fae. Dam wish i had a cristal ball sometimes eheheh =0
little while back I had a fun version of mbc. I had 4 Korlash, 4 Corrupt, 4 bitterblossom, 4 dusk urchins, and 4 scarscale ritual. My main plan was to get Korlash out, granduer another korlash, then next turn corrupt and recover from any bitterblossom damage and take control of the game. Alternately, dusk urchins with scarscale ritual worked to refill hand mighty quick.
How fun was it? Is it at all competative? because i dont know if 4 corrupt is playable in this meta... i cut them completely because of their cost and lack of mana accell... but thats just me.
@Darkspawn:
I saw his list, and I assure you, I´ve already played Mind Stones and Coldsteel, and I assure you, is not worth it. Even if sometimes u can play Damnation on turn 3. But to that, U will play BB on turn 4! Is not even a fair trade.
@Tarmagoyf: Ghastlord of Fugue seems pretty nuts, but when is countered, is countered. Period. With Demigod, we don´t feel petty to Damnation the board, sometimes its even a tech. It might be worth to test. But still I prefer Demigod.
I was going through my cards to try and create a sideboard. now. people have thought about splashing a second color. usually either green or blue. what if with green we try Blightsoil Druid. That way, we still have all black/swamps to keep korlash, tendrils, and currupt happy. Its a two drop which we really don't have much of. and so if we lose 1 life to get a green mana, we can get rid of o-ring, opponent bitterblossom, opponent hammers and pinthing needles. what do you think? is it worth boarding?
That top 8 build is very weird... i mean look at the sb... 1 profane, 1 bb? who do you sb that in against? and a single cruel edict? hmmm also im not sure if 2 damn md is enough right now... but i guess he did alot of testing considering 120 people were in the tournament!
Strange. Wonder how that actually fared in the end (maybe no bad matchups...), because for myself I'd be worried of not drawing enough removal. And no Warhammer. Hm...
Also, I think the idea was that BtQ could give you the Damnation if you needed it, but the chance into drawing redundant copies was less. All 5 removal spells are instant speed, which does help against Fae a little bit (along with Thoughtseize MD, which I think we can all agree is correct).
But I do agree that Sudden Death>most removal right now. I still like Corrupts, but more Profanes could do just as well, and I think he skimped on those too. Either way, it's CLOSE to what I would consider a pretty basic build, so kudos for doing well with it. Too bad Magic League is worth next to nothing in terms of being "respected".
I'm gonna have to agree that Sudden Death is really good right now, but I don't think you can say its > than all other removal. Each piece of removal has it's own specific purpose. My MBC plays terror over sudden death simply because I need more 2 drops to curve out better. I can't wait till turn 3 to play my first removal spell of the game, and I can't find much room to make room for sudden deaths MD.
I've been messing around with this for a long while now and it seems pretty solid...
In testing I like Ghastlord better, more devastating, can really end games where Oona can be chumped and the little tokens she makes can back firer or be removed by a wrath effect. Ghastlord gets in period and wins. (and cost 1 less)
No AV? If you run blue control, AV, or at least Mulldrifter+Mannequin seems like a MUST. You have 0 card draw as is, which makes the blue splash kind of a moot point. Blue is probably best meant as a splash for pure CA, since black has the rest all wrapped up.
Also, how does Oona's tokens "backfire" on you? If she lives a turn, she overqhelms the opponent. Nevermind that she can't be hit by Terror effects, Sudden Death, etc, and completely owns the late game. If they chump her, they are losing.
Ghastlord is good, but there is no comparison to Oona.
Otherwise, it doesn't look too bad. I think I prefer UB Mannequin as a UB control deck though, just due to more raw power in it's cards.
So, after BDM's article today, we have a Mono Black Control deck in the quarterfinals of PTQ Berlin. Link here, decklist retyped for your convenience. (Ctrl + F for Nicolas Rolf - Monoblack Control)

on my build, it was incredibly fun, and against my friends RDWs it had about a 70-30 win ratio, because of the corrupts and tendrils, did I mention the tendrills before? How do you make the deck list look awesome, because I'd like to make it look cool. However, it was something like this.
Land
24x Swamps
Dudes-12
4x Korlash
4x Dusk Urchins
2x Tombstalker
1x Glen Elandra Liege
1x Ashenmore Liege
Not dudes-24
4x Bitterblossom
3x Tendrils of corruption
4x Corrupt
2x Damnation
4x Thoughtsieze
2x Profane
3x Scarscale Ritual
2x Sudden Death
it was like that. I would win with either huge korlash, my tokens being pumped with liege, or with my corrupts. Corrupt seems bad, seems slow, but if they aren't playing counterspells it is one of the most game altering spells in standard. On turn 6 playing corrupt with any sort of beats on the table is huge, as it recoups whatever loses you've taken, and puts them generally within striking range of my big beats. Profane worked wonders when I got it, as it could recur the lieges and give my dudes fear, or hit them low and bring in a korlash or a stalker that would generally halt any sort of offensive they had against me, and let me choose how the game was played. The rituals did a wonderful job of letting me avoid missing land drops in a deck so monstrously hungry for mana. Dusk urchins was I think one of my favorite cards in the deck, as I could swing with him each turn regardless of what dudes they had on the table, because the card drawing helps the deck so much. What do you guys think?

To Tag the deck use [DECK*][*/DECK] without the *s. To tag individual cards or multiple cards use [CARD*][*/CARD] [CARDS*][*/CARDS] respectively.
Ive been thinking about going more the beats/ control route rather than the slow control route. I might try something similar to your deck.

He ran the snow land package, which gave him access to Mouth and Sheets he could get with Btq. Finally MBC in top8? bout time...
1) Don't play 3 BB, play 4.
2) Ghastlord of Fugue is frakking nutz and way better than Demigod in this deck, especially since you can only afford to play 3.
