Read what Vigor does. Also, he already used both of his Cruels.
How am I being ignorant? You are tap dancing around the point at hand. If you want to really dissect your little scenario and debate the merits of your deck, we can touch on those subjects. In light of what you're trying to explain in this quoted text, clue me in on the following: do you realize that rather than flooding his deck with equipment to be able to engage in combat with your fliers, he should just increase his threat/removal density? If you argue otherwise you are pretty much defending his poor card choices. After Day of Judgment, your opponent has manlands, Bloodbraid, and thrinax tokens to ensure Luminarch doesn't trigger. As stated before, your opponent just punted. Your logic is flawed if you think that the Ascension is a good out against an opponent bearing heavy removal. It needs to be harnessed when your opponent is doing the exact opposite of removing and/or swinging at you. I've seen your list, and it doesn't really bhelp your argument.
All I'm trying to do is increase your tolerance for criticism. At this point you should be able to grow based on the arguments of others, and I know that nobody is perfect in their early stages of learning the game, but there comes a time to grow up and listen to what others have to say because the numbers don't lie. You don't want to be that jackass at the local card shop who toots his own horn and boasts about his deck ideas which are in stark reality just plain jank, the same guy that asks people for advice and when they try to engage in some debate or discussion you shoot them down in a blindly ignorant fashion, never letting anyone throw their two cents at you.
Nobody likes that guy. I know somebody at my FNM scene that takes a good deck, craps on it with his own ideas (that usually take away from the purpose of the deck,) goes on a long tangent trying to brag he is a great thinker and deck designer and then asks me what I think of it. Every single time, I usually have to tell him the truth in that his rationale is flawed, yet he persists and always replies "I disagree," which makes no sense when said person is in fact asking others for criticism. You need to chill with the defense mechanisms and learn to accept your faults when others point them out. I'd never give such advice if I didn't follow it myself, just so you know. You can never grow as a Magic player if you don't indulge yourself in the findings of others and the gist of their arguments for or against an idea.
I completely understand what you mean, and the only reason I mentioned you were being ignorant is because you said he only put them in there for the Tokens. I apologize for the personal attack. As for Luminarch Ascension, I also use it when I keep my opponent's field empty or with very few attackers. I play so many removals/life gain because my deck doesn't start up right away. It takes a few turns so I need to recover and respond.
Moving on, I appreciate criticism. I've learned quite a bit just roaming the forums and experimenting with what works and what doesn't. My deck went through several changes, trials and errors, etc. just to get to where it is now. As I mentioned in my post, it isn't perfect nor is it "better" than Jund. I know I can still improve it, but it's been competitive, which is a good sign, right?
I agree that he made a mistake that a better player most likely would not have overlooked. Hell, I won against Jund a couple times because my opponent wasn't drawing the right land. Stuff happens that's inconvenient and it could cost you a loss, but as long as your deck does well more often than it doesn't, then you're heading in the right direction.
That being said, it's been pretty flattering to see people SB for my deck. But, again, I'm humble. I always shake my opponent's hand after a win or loss and say "good game". I'm never bitter or cocky. I see losing as an opportunity to improve and refine a weak area that's been exploited.
EDIT: The player I quoted in my signature is just a big mouth. He tries to constantly get under my skin and discredit the validity of my deck, so that's why I responded the way I did. A little sarcasm never hurt anyone.
I was playing against a UB control deck with my naya deck. He had enough damage on the board to kill me. He played Abyssal persecuter Then attacked and asked my life. When i responded -2. He looked at his persecuter and shook his head.
Took him 12 turns to kill the thing... in which time
He used sorin's ultimate 3 times... First time, i had nothing useful in hand and he even played my land drop for me.
Second time, i had a martial coup in hand. But i played it the turn before for 4 tokens and laughed.
3rd time i had a woolly thoctar on the field with 2 vines of vastwood in my hand i had planned to use to protect the persecuter. But at his EOT i played them both on thoctar so he couldn't pump/swing it at the persecuter on my controlled turn.
By the end of the game i was at something like -36 life, because he just stopped attacking me.
"In the finals of Pro Tour Paris 1997, Long was playing Mark Justice. In one game, Long, piloting his Prosperous Bloom combo deck, faced a situation where he would lose unless he could win on his current turn. According to Mark Rosewater, in order to get his combo to go off, he needed to discard his sole copy of Drain Life, the only card in his deck capable of dealing damage and thus killing his opponent. After drawing a large number of cards with a large Prosperity, Long showed his hand to Justice to communicate that he had the game won and would only waste time going through the motions. As Justice did not know the exact contents of Long's deck, he was unaware that Long had discarded his only copy of Drain Life and thus had no way to win the game. Justice conceded the game and went on to lose the match."
while that was true he could not win the game, Long could have cast his forth prosperity for a large number forcing both players to draw out their libraries' resulting in a draw which would have lead to a game 6.
I was playing UWr control against Vampires at FNM about 3 weeks ago. As that matchup goes, I am already at a severe disadvantage from the beginning, however being stuck on 3 land until turn 7 did not quite help. He resolves a mind sludge on me, which gets rid of an Ajani Vengeant and 2 Jace the mind sculptors, as well as a Double Negative I didn't have the colors to play and my singleton Banefire that I had been trying out. No real hand; no lands to play a potential relevant topdeck, I was going to conceed but decided to play it for like 2-3 more turns just to see, since the turn prior I had played a courier's capsule. I then proceed to topdeck 3 more lands and nothing but removal of the course of the next few turns. He plays an unkicked Gatekeeper just to create board presence, which allows me to stick a Sphinx of Jwar Isle. Hitting my other two Ajani Vengeants and promptly using their Lightning Helix put me back in the game Lifetotal-wise, and he completely ran out of gas. By the time he hit another Gatekeeper, I had the Essence Scatter. He used Tendrills on his own creature to stay alive, which gave me an opening to start swinging in with Colonnades. He never hit a Bloodghast. 30 minutes of grueling magic later, I win the game. It was ridiculous. A crapstorm of lucky topdecks by me, unlucky topdecks by him, and a multitude of play mistakes on his part gave me the win in a match that would otherwise be something of s bye for my opponent.
A while back when it was Rav/Time Spiral, I had made Boros. In the semifinals the this is how it goes: I play a Soltari Priest and bash face with it through out the game. Soon enough he gets out creatures, I kill some of them and by the end the board looks like this:
So I'm thinking: "there's literally nothing I can draw, is there?", but I was like w/e I'll just draw my card and see what it is. I draw it, swing with my Soltari Priest, then I thought: "I guess I'll just play this card for fun, doesn't matter I'm gonna lose either way." You know what card it was? A Lightning Helix. At the time I didn't realize it would win me the game, although I still played it. As soon as I played it everyone around me was in an uproar. I was like "Huh?" and then I realized. Best topdeck/turnaround I have ever had.

at the beginning of your opponents upkeep you would both die wouldnt you? so thats not really a comeback for you? either that or im dumb and had a really long day and am missing something lol
lighting helix gained him 3 life so he was at 4 at the begining of the opponents upkeep. he then dropped to 3 and if the opponent was smart he would just have swung for victory that turn.

Yes, I go to 4, but if you look at the damage here's how it goes: Swing with the Priest => 6-2=4 => Lightning Helix => 4-3=1 => Rumbling Slum => 1-1=0. Hopefully now you get it
One of my best comebacks ever was just recently, right before WWK. I was playing Grixis Control against Eldrazi Elves. Won game one rather handedly with back to back Cruels. Game two was a bit more even, but I eventually got out Sphinx and started smashing face. He had out a Nissa Revane which kept ticking up, but I managed the threats and generally ignored it. I Crueled late, which brought him to 2 life, and I had a red open hoping to see a Bolt out of three cards I drew. Didn't see it. Fine, I had another Cruel in hand.
But my mistake was relying on the Bolt. At that point Nissa was at her ultimate. He activated it, bringing out everything in his deck. I still thought I was fine because I had a lethal Cruel in my hand. But by dropping three Visonaries, he drew three cards...one of which being his last Nissa. He promptly dropped her and gained a stupid amount of life due to her second ability. Now HE had lethal damage on the board and I was basically dead in the water.
Topdeck...my last Earthquake. Literally the only card that could have saved me, and I had already used my other two. I swept his entire board away, redirected the damage to Nissa, and continued to beat face with Sphinx until I secured the win.
Just a massively lucky topdeck. Good times.

I just posted this in another thread, but I think it applies here, too.
I was once playing UW control against a green stomp deck with a splash of red for bolt and dragonmaster outcast. It was late game and he had some bestial menace tokens out and a garruk with about 9 counters on him (I kept sweeping so he never made beasts or overran). I was somewhere in the single digits for life.
In one turn I jace ult'd him and then dropped an Iona naming green (of course). He then had a 5 card hand as a library and drew an outcast which he could play (he had plenty of land to trigger). I was able to remove the outcast and I was able to fend him off for a bit, but he then drew an eldrazi monument and swung for the win.
So, yes, I have used Jace's ultimate followed by an Iona against a near mono-colored deck, and still lost the game. It was the most frustrating moment of my life.

Heh, if you didn't note that it was THAT night, I would've thought I pulled it. Got a guy playing MWC to name white against my UW, and Mind Control'ed it right then and there for the win. His only non-white playable was Gargoyle Castle.
I was playing my Grixis Control against my friends White Weenie. He had 2 Baneslayer on board, 2 Soul Warden, Elspeth, and a Knight of the White Orchid. I no hand and two Sphinx of Jwar Isle in play with 8 lands. He swings with everything except the Knight(which he had just cast) and life totals are 45-3 in his favor.
Playing MBC against a cruel control. Game two i mull down to 4 cards (ouch). On turn 4 he thought hemorrhages getting one card from my hand. Turn 5 he does it again getting another card from my hand. Turn six, you guessed it, another thought hemorrhage. At this point I'm wondering if maybe i shoulda shuffled up his deck some more than just cutting it lol. Unfortunately for him I beat him down with bloodghasts which he had fortunately forgotten about when he was doing all of his hemorrhaging.
Winning a game where you mulled down to 4 and was triple thought hemorrhaged feels good, real good.
I have a wall of reverence on the board. He is a 1900 rated player (10th in the state) and has an insane board position with a bunch of creatures, which swing in and put me at 1. I have 1 card in hand. I joke that the only thing that could make it better for him is for him to play a baneslayer angel to finish the job. He smirks malevolently, and plays a baneslayer angel and passes. Trying to stop from breaking up from laughing, I untap, draw a land, and play the card I had in hand: Mind control. I gain the 5 life from my wall, which puts me out of range, and win the game and the match by beating his face with his own baneslayer. He was furious and would have easily won if he didn't play anything, since if I Mind controlled any other creature I would have still been over-run.
