I have enjoyed playing with the talismans and I am curious how you would all rate the signets in comparison. Are the better? Worse? Apples and Oranges? Most importantly, should I be using them?
Signets are much much better than Talismans. The only downside is that you need the mana to activate Signets but the lack of pain is very much better in my book.
I prefer to play the signets over the talismans, just because they give each color an equal tool. I don't want to include both the talismans, the fetchlands or the shardlands in the same cube.

Hmm, i don't understand why though.
In a normal boosterdraft you get 45 cards, and you can play 21-24 of them.
That means you will be really happy if maybe 6 of your 45 cards are nonbasics.
And furthermore most decks (non-aggro), will be happy to play 2-3 manafixing cards, like talismans, signets or other acceleration.
If you build a UW deck, you'll have one useable talisman, one useable fetch, one useable shardlands etc. If you build BG you won't have those manafixing tools.
That's why I prefer ten signets to five talismans.
I used to write cube articles on StarCityGames, now for GatheringMagic and podcast about cube (w/Antknee42.)
I also include discussions about cards we took out, cards we banned, and cards we might add.

I use descriptive language. Assume that I'm being nice and respectful. (I'll tell you when I'm not.)

I do however think that the talismans are equally good.

More is good.
