I think it's the 4th best UG card, behind Snake, Predator and SSS.
This^
And thats not a short order for this guy, all three of those cards are bonkers good. Spitting Image has been good for us, but I think this card is even better. All in all I am very happy to have him.
Skullbriar, the Walking Grave :symb::symg:
Legendary Creature - Zombie Elemental (R)
Haste
Whenever Skullbriar, the Walking Grave deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
Counters remain on Skullbriar as it moves to any zone other than a player's hand or library.
1/1
Looks like Slith Firewalker with an awkward casting cost and a slight upside. The haste is quite unusual in this color combination, though. Probably to help Vengevine-style comebacks from the grave (and clearly for use with the Command Zone, now that I think about it).
card is bad because of the color combination and how tight those slots are, I would easily run Glissa the Trator as my next GB card, this card is very much worse.

Yeah, I don't need a card that requires 4 requires 3 turns of unconnected attacking to become as good as Putrid Leech.
I agree. If cubes tended to run more pump and other combat tricks, Basandra would have more value but most cubes don't so I doubt she'll find a home in very many cubes.
So are we all kicking out Simic Signet out for Edric, Spymaster of Trest? Why not if you aren't. I am going to give it a whirl.
I've taken out all but the blue signets from my cube and honestly, I have noticed that it's harder to make tinker decks, upheaval decks, wildfire decks, and any other decks that value the mana stones. It would be noticeable if I lost another one. I'm actually on the verge of adding a few more back in.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.

I can relate to this. We only went down to 8 signets, which is a lot these days compared to what most people are running, and they just keep being played and appreciated. The Simic one fits really well in its guild so I really can't see cutting it. Especially not for a non-fixer card, but I guess I've said that before
We don't balance multi-color anymore, so we could just add the spy dude. Or maybe consider cutting the Sky Swallower, IDK.
I'm running Signets as gold, and opted not to include the UG one. I'm only running UB, UW, and UR. Our logic was that UG doesn't really need the Signet because it has plenty of access to ramp in green. Also, even after cutting the Signets, my group has no problems building Tinker or Upheaval decks. The Signets are now used for the purpose they were originally intended for, not just Tinker fodder or off color ramp.

I only have 7 cards per guild section, so we're only running the UW and UR signet.
We run more colorless cards than the average cube, however, so that's probably why we're not running into Tinker problems.
We might sub the UB signet back in for Lim-Dul's Vault, but we love us some combo.

/\ /\ /\ Funny, that never really happens in my powered cube. Everybody that's never drafted a powered cube thinks that's what's gonna happen, and then when they draft my powered cube, they change their tune. Because a Mox doesn't "blow you out" unless you're running a garbage deck.

I'm not. My UG decks want ramp + fixing. They don't want a magpie effect without evasion.
If you support blue aggro, it's nice to splash for this card. Otherwise, it's an underwhelming effect in your typical UG mid-range deck, and terrible in UG control.
I am keeping Signet in for this guy. I'll probably run Voidslime over him. I think I prefer Coatl too in fact. He's certainly a shoe-in for cubes with dedicated blue aggro sections.
My UG section is six cards strong, so I'll probably be cutting Temporal Spring for him. I feel like Spring is my number six card. I like this guy more than Coatl, for what it's worth. Coatl played similar to Taurean Mauler for us. He was easy to make huge and it often happened quick, but he just got chumped by everything and removed by basically any removal spell. I think those sorts of creatures need something more to be cubeable at this point.
I definitely won't be kicking out Simic signet. Maybe Lorescale Coatl, but only if I happen to get my hands on this guy. I won't go out of my way to buy him and I don't expect him to be insane in my cube environment.
I think it's better than the Coatl. If you're counting signets in the Simic section (like I do), I think this new card is #5 on the list.
Agreed. But that's how many guild cards I run because some of the other color pairs have enough cards to push me that deep. He's not the greatest, but in the shallowness of UG he ought to make most cubes except for those with tiny guild sections.
He's going to just miss my UG section. I'm not cutting the signet and the remaining three UG cards are just so solid. I can't imagine replacing them at this point. Cool card for sure, though.
For cubes that run 5+ gold cards in every section, they have their first Commander card that's worthy of inclusion. That's pretty cool in itself.
I just hate that I'm going to have to find a second one, since I'd like him as a non-broken non-bad UG general (i.e. one that doesn't strictly require building your deck around him).
Initial findings (I've been testing him also. Yes, I am crazy. ) are that Spock is very good in UG decks that can attack as soon as he comes into play (ie ones that have a good amount of 1-2 drops.) Going T1 & T2 dude, T3 Spock is really nice. The more that those decks are supported in your cube, the better he'll be.

Draft my cube!

Signet is a lot more powerful. Depends on what you're looking for in that slot.

Really out of date cube thread with pictures.
He's definately going in for Spitting Image in ours.

I don't know man... I've never been disappointed with spitting image. That card is nuts to try and beat.

Weird how Cube's differ. We only rarely get creature stand offs. Is your Cube un-powered?

I'm always open to suggestions on how to improve my cube. Take a look and ask a question, or give a constructive critique whenever you can.
Yeah, it's un-powered.
Honestly to us, a powered cube is just very boring.
Giving people the chance to just completely blow you out solitaire style does not make for good gameplay.

But yeah, it's definitely behind Simic Sky Swallower, Mystic Snake and Trygon Predator.
