Whichever deck has edric (my money is on URG) is gonna be worth more on the singles market than it is priced at as a cohesive deck. Edric is guaranteed play in legacy, maybe even some in vintage, and that is before we even get to the sol ring and whatever as-of-yet unrevealed other playable goodies are in the deck.
But yeah, I would kill for some fetches and shocklands to flood the market and make my purchase of originals cheaper.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

You can play a beta Lightning Bolt in a standard deck so I don't see why you can't play commander cards in standard and extended so long as they are printed in those formats.

I just wasn't sure what formats the Commander cards were legal in. I thought they were solely for kitchen table usage and didn't realize they were legal in the Eternal formats.
Because that way, they wouldn't be able to print any cards that would be too powerful for the T2 environment.
Just try to imagine how the players would have complained if the only way to get Umezawa's Jitte would be through the preconstructed deck.
I'm pretty sure islip's talking about cards that aren't exclusive to Commander (hence the comparisson to running a beta Lightning Bolt in standard). I see no reason that the cards that aren't new to Commander wouldn't be just as legal as the same cards from any other set.
Well, they are legal in the Eternal formats (Vintage and Legacy), so why shouldn't they be playable in cube?
Btw, this only applies to the 55 new Commander cards. All other cards are reprints of tournament legal cards and can be played in every format where the corresponding set(s) they were printed in is/are legal.
Ya, the commander exclusive cards are legal in the eternal formats.
Yeah, Wizard's official rule on cards is that any card printed in Black Border is legal in Eternal play unless specifically banned by that format. That's why Mana Crypt is legal, and why Un- sets are printed in Silver Border.

He is right, wizards currently maintains a policy that all cards printed in Black Border or White Border are legal unless specifically banned.
He may have left out the white-border part, but to be fair, his phrasing was pretty close close because with the exception of P3K and Starter 1999, all WB cards were initially printed in BB.

According to an old thread I Googled up, he Portal sets became tournament legal on October 20th, 2005.
Also, what Altaurus321 calls "Portal block" isn't a block in the way people typically use the term. There was not connectivity or overarching themes to the design; they were just three unrelated* sets designed to ease beginners into the game.
*Besides the names and general concept, of course.
Alliance of Arms...what??? It looks hilarious, and has a new keyword!
It goes decently in the anthem deck, although no opponent is ever going to help you out on mana when you play it.
Your opponent gets to attack first, which is bad news bears if they have ajani goldmane or sarkhan vol or something waiting for you.
My verdict is not cubeable, but it's an interesting card. If it said each player gets tokens equal to however much mana they individually played, it would be fantastic.
They literally have to be signed or altered to be pimp
