Whose cubes are running Spellskite other than me and wtwlf? I really like the card.
Mine, but it hasn't come up in a draft yet and I haven't updated my list recently. I'm glad Spellkite is working well for others though, hopefully he'll make an appearance in one of our draft pools soon.
i don't get the interest. the card is crazy slow. it's not a bad design... but this is cube. 2+3 and multiple turns where it's sitting on the field doing nothing - i just don't think it's worth it. how much damage is it usually doing in limited? how many turns does it sit on the field before it pops? i haven't played nph so i don't know how it's usually played.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
The thing about the Shrine in limited is it's a burn spell in a format where there's not a lot of efficient burn for red. From what I've seen it usually serves as a Fireball. Play it on turn two, "set it and forget it" sorta thing. The cube is a different animal, though. There's a lot of competition for cheap burn and for X damage finishers. Shrine doesn't beat any of those options, IMO, especially not at the 360 level.

Have you guys played it it? In both limited and constructed it is really scary. Pretty common for it to be doing 12 damage or so (in both formats). Most red aggro decks in cube are not going to spend 13 mana on a Fireball.
I've not played with it in cube but think it deserves testing.
I've played it in regular limited, and it doesn't strike me as a card that would transfer well to the cube. With the amount of artifact destruction floating around, and the limitation of only growing quickly when you're playing red spells every turn, you'd have to keep 3 open at all times to ensure value from the card. If you continue to play cards out on curve and it gets destroyed, you'll get nothing. That's an insanely steep drawback for a card that just has the potential to do some late game damage. In all other situations, you get nothing from it at all. And it takes up your 2-drop slot in the process. Which is not a deal-breaker for Scars limited or Standard in the decks that play it right now, but it's HUGE in the cube.

^^ This.
Cube aggro doesn't want to play this on turn two. It wants to play a dude and continue to put pressure on. I think any cube deck I build would much rather have an X spell or another cheap burn spell than this. The X spell serves the same purpose and doesn't take up my turn two. And I can hold the cheap burn until it's needed and use it as reach or removal without hurting my curve.
I think Kenny Mayer is testing it in his cube, but he has a larger cube that has more room for cards like this. There's really no way I'd ever be able to find room for this at 360.
I don't think that's it's cut out for Cube at any size, really. It's a good card but not one that is welcome at that slot in most R/x decks that are traditionally built in Cube drafts. I'd consider it at 700+ but I think that I'd rather run more reliable burn even at that level.
I think at the invitational Kenny said he has liked the Shrine a lot in his Cube, but he'd have to chime in personally for me to be sure. There was a lot of Cubing and Magic that weekend, and I can't keep all of it straight.

I haven't gotten around to giving the card a test run yet. I was mentioning Jinxed Choker when cubing then, which has been surprisingly solid as a pseudo-Sulfuric Vortex.

what size cube do you think the choker makes the cut in?
Probably the 540-720 range is somewhere to look at it I think. Artifacts are pretty tight now that Mirrodin 2.0 block has come and gone, so room is hard to come by. It's a solid card, but probably doesn't make it quite a 500 and below, though it's certainly worth trying out.

Good enough for 360?
