i look forward to making hilarious celebrity comparisons. my girlfriend compared new jace to the lead singer of tokio hotel, which is a horrendous and embarrassing band i hope no one here is familiar with.
i'm familiar with them, decent music, haven't seen pics of them, but i haven't listened to them in years, an old friend of mine has German roots so he likes this kind of stuff...
other than that, Lady Chandraga looks really stupid in this pic.

GENERATION 15: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig and add 1 to the generation.
It appears that Sorin and Gideon are replacing Lily and Ajani in the upcoming core set. It is not confirmed, however, whether they (along with Chandra, Jace and Garruk) will have new cards or reprints. It seems more likely that they'll be straight reprints, but new cards for all four would see the packs like hot cakes. Jace 3.0 seems a little soon, however, so maybe there could be a blend or old and new.

A straight reprint of Sorin would seem out of place with his 10 life ability. Perhaps that's more evidence of new versions of the planeswalkers?
the 10 life thing has deliberate synergy with vampires in ZEN but that doesn't mean it's a strange ability for black. it's lifeloss and anti-lifegain, it works nicely with his first ability by getting them down to a reasonable number if they aren't already there. he feels less "this is what black does" than liliana, but i don't think he would be out of place in a core set.
on the other hand, gideon's abilities do not illustrate white's traditional roles very well, in my opinion. he's a very strange design.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Yeah, Gideon Jura is quite atypical in terms of his abilities - though they do fit in his colour pie, they're very unusual - and also his overall layout (+2, -2, 0). He's an amazing 'Walker though.
+2: forcing attacks happens primarily in red and black, although the ultimate result of forcing an attack on a walker is basically like a fog or a mass tap, which white is happy to do. but the effect shows up on no recent white cards except gideon, as far as i know.
-2: until he was printed, i was certain they had moved vengeance out of white entirely into black (where it started). the ability exists on very few cards as it is, but the majority of them are black (one of them being the high profile alpha card royal assassin). the only other white cards with the ability are in portal.
0: the 6/6 unkillable dude for 3WW seems more green than white, but they've been pushing creatures in every color so it's the least odd thing he can do.

In these recent core set they brought back the concept of flavorful top down designs that neglect the color pie. That's why we've seen the likes of Entangling Vines, Stabbing Pain and Hornet Sting.
Gideon is a nice top down design. He calls your opponent creatures to fight him (while protecting you), them he either kills one that touched him or storms against your opponent. The perfect pal.

Gideon is one of my favorite card designs in the last 3 blocks/cores. Definitely a very top-down design. I just love how the card does something almost no other cards do (case your opponent to repeatedly not attack you) and has synergy with itself. He's more of a "KOTH" than Koth.
Sorin Markov is ok for a core set. His abilities are less fitting than the ones of Liliana Vess, but he follows the usual planeswalker template. Gideon Jura on the other hand does not. He has no "ultimate" and a "0" ability. Plus, turning into a creature is a bit weird for a planeswalker in a core set.
Don't get me wrong. I like Gideon and it is cool that his price will go down. I simply don't think he is a good fit for a core set. Elspeth Tirel would have been the best replacement for Ajani Goldmane. She may have been too current though.

Good points well made. I guess I always thought of Vengeance first when I saw him.

Has there been any confirmation that the PW's are being reprinted? I don't see what's stopping them from making new versions of them. I hope they do because, frankly, Jace, Chandra, and Garruk are getting pretty stale.
Looks like the titan cycle is slaited to return for M2012. Which is a good thing. I still haven't gotten around to buying foil versions of the three titans I use.

I'm glad for the titans becauase, like Pringlesman, I lack foily ones for my cube. Also, they are good in EDH.
I think M12 is going to have legends as the remaining mythics. I just hope red doesn't get screwed again and lack a mythic due to fracking Platinum Angel. I'd like a mythic red dragon that is on par with BSA.
In all seriousness, I agree. If Wizards really wants to push a classic fantasy feel in core sets, a really good dragon would go a long way. Is there anything as iconic of the fantasy genre as dragons? Don't get me wrong; Ancient Hellkite is cool and Hording Dragon can do some fun things, but neither of them is really that good. An aggresively costed, powerful dragon with a splashy ability for 5 would be a really great addition to Magic 2012.
Well BSA was the card that blew Serra Angel out of the water. Maybe it's time for a super Shivan Dragon? It's hard to find a more iconic dragon that Shivan Dragon. Something like this maybe?
Super Special Awesome Dragon 4RR
Creature - Dragon
Flying, Trample, Firebreathing, Protection from spells
5/5
The trample might make it too powerful, but the other 3 abilities are quite flavorful I think.

Next time(if/when) you're single, we'll go cruising. Never mind that we probably live in entirely different parts of the country/world.

I cube, I play EDH, and I can't afford Legacy. The other formats can suck it.

L2 Judge
I don't know, it's not completely terrible, but it obviously made 100% more sense in the context of vampires.

Very true, which is why I like Gideon so much.

Totally agree on all the above.
