Not to offend anyone here... I personally think foils show arrogant and cockiness. It of course isn't true for everyone, but when I used to go to T2 tournaments and see these 14-21 year olds playing with all foil decks.. 9/10 a snotty, arrogant, assholish attitude came with it.
I use assorted foils from way back when (Mirrodin, Ravnica, Kamigawa)
Also the full art zendikar look nice.
The basic lands are the only thing that do not get rotated out.

there's no correlation other than that foils are a possible avenue for showing off, so someone who is an ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺ can use them to do so. so many other things can be used this way, and they don't correlate to being an ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺ either. a lot of people think everyone who goes to a tournament seriously is an ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺, for example. it's just not sound logic.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

Well, maybe the word hate was a bit much on my part, though some of my friends genuinely hate foil cards. I find them hard to read, distracting on the battlefield and sometimes they screw up trades (Guy has a card that I want, but only in foil, which he sees as being worth more than a nonfoil version. However, I'd like to trade for a card because of its play value and am not fond of giving/paying more because of its shinyness).
That doesn't mean that I cannot applaud guys like KiL0 for their amazing land collection. For basic lands, the "hard to read / distracting" arguments don't really matter.

Some people are chill, and other people are tools. It has nothing to do with the percentage of foil cards in their deck.
As Hicham mentioned earlier, I don't like foils at all, though it depends a lot on the set. The Onslaught foils were just awful: they're garish and the cards curl up on themselves like crazy. They're also so much thicker and stiffer than normal cards that they're marked even in sleeves. The Mirrodin ones are ok, a lot more subtle, not as stiff and they don't curl so badly, though I still prefer non-foils.
I really, really like the beta look at a relatively affordable price that CE offers, so I'm glad we have those. But Kil0's basics look quite amazing, and of course people should just use whatever they like best - it says little about their general attitude.

Maybe it's T2 players that are like that.
In my experience Limited Legacy/Casual players are often more friendly. Don't know why that is though. Maybe the competition drives someone to be unfriendly.
Some of the most friendliest gamers I have met have several fully pimped legacy decks. I also categorize myself as a friendly gamer (most often), and I also have a almost fully pimped legacy deck and a ½ pimped cube. But the reason I pimp up is just because I have an almost complete collection of the cards I want. So the only reason to satisfy my collectors-itch is to buy more rare versions of the same cards.
So you stole from your friends? That's kinda douchey thing to do, congrats you have a few dollars worth of basics at the cost of being a db to your friends.
Why would you need 500 basics for a 360 card cube anyway. Even if you drafted the whole cube and all 8 players manage to go mono you still have too many lands. Why not just ask your group to use a set number of them for the cube?
Woah dude. First off I don't think you grasp how many basics we really have. We have whole boxes filled with them. Me taking 500 was a bare scratch on the surface. And since I have to take care of them at my house the playgroup agreed I could take as many as I needed. At least when I'm using them they aren't stuck in a wheelie container being crushed.
The land box for my cube is one of every foil basic land from all sets. I also have one of each Euro land, one of each Unglued land, and an artists' proof Collector's Edition island signed & modified by Mark Poole (cube rules are this is my land if I'm playing blue). So yeah, my land box holds much more land than the cube needs, but it also doubles as a cool collection to show off.

I figure its best to have a ton more lands than you actually need. Sometimes we use them as tokens if we're out of poker chips.
what would be cooler would be having every token possible with the cube set aside with the basic land so you could use them (with dice to denote number) with the relevant cards. i intend to do this eventually.

I've been saving tokens for this specifically. I even had the old Pegasus token from the unsets for when I was running that Pegasus producing enchantment.

I've been thinking of doing the same. I lack a few tokes still, so I haven't sleeved them up and added them in my cube yet.
My plan is to count all the cards that make tokes, what and how many, and I'll add the minimum amount of each token. (e.g., if I have 3 cards in total in the cube that makes soldier tokens, I'll add 3 copies. If I have 2 cards making bird tokens, I'll add 2 copies of that token etc. dice and counterstones will add up the token numbers).
I try to collect all the tokens for all the token producers in my cube as well. The only one I can think of that I don't have are the Illusion Tokens for Meloku the Clouded Mirror

I think I have almost all tokens as well.
But I rarely use them for my primary cube, because it's a bit of a hassle when you have that many. Therefor only use some of the more common tokens for my primary cube. When we use my tribal cube we use them all though.
I did the same with all of the tokens, but I found that the time it took to go through the box and find the appropriate ones wasn't worth most players' hassle. They preferred dice or other, more generic signifiers instead.
Anyone need to buy about 100 sleeved token creatures?

We usually use poker chips for this very reason. Its so much easier to stack 3 chips for a 3/3 or just one for a 1/1 than to look through all the tokens to find an angel token or whatever.
Anyway, if you do decide to sleeve tokens, you should sleeve them in a different color than your cube so that they won't get mixed up by mistake when shuffling them back again. it'll save you some hassle and time.
You could also sleeve them in their "appropriate" color to save some time when searching for one. for example, white tokens in white sleeves etc.
My plan is just to have all the tokens together in a small cardbox/deckbox separate from the cube cards so that it would be more accessible. Players could also take out the tokens they need right after decks have been built when they know which tokens they'll need for their games.
I love me some token creatures, I have them sleeved and ready for all token producers in the cube. Some of the players in my group don't care much and just use anything, but most grab a bunch of tokens that go with the token producer in their decks and happily use them!

This is exactly the way we do it. Also, cube is sleeved blue, tokens are sleeved white. The tokens are sorted by type in the deck box and really there are not so many token producers in a medium sized cube, takes no time at all to find the right ones. Make sure to have plenty of squirrels ready, though
Need a lot of them squirrels for sure. Sacred Mesa is a popular card in our group but we don't have any pegasus tokens, its too bad really. I guess I have to buy some on my next order.
Or you could make some tokens with MSE, I mean tokens are a lot easier than proxies because if you can feel the difference between a token and a magic card, it does not really matter.
I do that because I want to have tokens with the new look and also for token producers that never got the matching tokens.
Here are my basics. I use MM arena promos, with the Skittles Plains...
The MM promos are hard to tell...here is a regular MM Island next to a promo MM Island:
Regular on the left, promo on the right.
But my new project is the following, started RIGHT before I obtained a lot of about 100 foil Unhinged lands:
I think the colors are just outstanding, and throughout history John Avon's lands have always had amazing art. I have about 12-15 of each now, but need to obtain at least 30 of each (35 for Island). I won't object to PM's of what you have available for trade, ha!

Antknee: Can you help me with the difference between the reg and promo MM lands? Is it the letter color (grey-ish for reg vs white for promo)? You must have a good eye to spot the difference.
The five lands you picked from Zen look amazing in foil! Agreed, the colors just pop...
Some people find them distracting and cheap looking. Also some foils have a serious bending problem.
Fredo my main playing partner dislikes them and tries to limit the foils in the cube to a bare minumum.
I feel compelled to repeat everything I hear
