I'm curious - how is the ante rule applied during a cube draft? Do you just mill/exile the card that would be anted?
quoting from the OP:
• Contract from Below’s ante clause is fully in effect. What is unique is that you will be the only one in the match with a card ante’d. If you lose a game with a card ante’d, your opponent will gain that card for use in his deck/sideboard for the remainder of the cubing session.
*for the purpose of online rotisserie drafting, just rfg the top card
I strongly suggest that you read the rest of the OP, you wouldn't want to get caught off guard by anything else included therein. Like perhaps that this is all under 6th ed rules.

I don't see how Contract From Below was picked second. The card provides three times more card advantage than Ancestral Recall. The ante thing will never matter because you can't lose after casting it.
I'm aware that it was the better card. However, when I surveyed the cube as a whole and tried to guess as to what archetypes would be drafted and how the draft would play out, I just decided that Sol Ring was a better fit with the deck I wanted to draft (i.e. a deck that slays all of the midrange decks that basically everyone else is going to draft).

Make sense?
I think if you are drafting blue, that Contract is just another insta-win card imo. You have lots of counterspells and the chance to get Gifts Given, so their is a lot of outs to Contract.
And I guess black has some hand disruption, to discard Contract before it can be fully utilized.
I would totally think of including Mental Misstep here, I would SB in vs the Contract player, just as a possible CS to it.
Fwiw, I think Contract is a lot harder to play around than Armageddon; and/ or Upheaval.
Also Preator's Grip, would be another Gifts Given-esque cards though would be a good strategy vs Contract from Below.
Also Sol Ring is absolutely insane. Contract is a draw7, but sol ring is a double time walk. I'd have taken Sol Ring first too.
Sorry how is Sol Ring comparable to a double Time Walk? Having three turns in a row, should secure a win, no matter the board position.
With Eternal Witness; Regrowth; or any recursion, i dont think you could lose a match due to lack of cards. If I was running Contract, I would aggressively mulligan to get it hand, even mulligan down to four cards, is better CA than starting seven including Ancestral Recall.
The Sol Ring however is colourless, and since magimerl doesnt get a 2nd pick until pick #16, maybe it was preferable to his draft strategy. Though since Sol Ring is in a lot of Cubes, and Contract is not, I would have 100% picked Contract, as it is something that I would like an opportunity to build around.
Though I think it was said best earlier by Blimpy, that it has three times the card advantage of Ancestral Recall. That should speak for itself.
I was very close to drafting Blacker Lotus instead -- That card in your starting hand + a 4 or 5 drop is the nuts in this environment.
Well there are a lot of answers at CMC1-2 for most CMC5 cards in ExpiredRascals Cube, there are also few of the cards of that CC that are comparable in power to a modern full power list, no PWs etc.
Remember it's not three times the advantage provided by Ancestral. You have to discard your hand first. (Nitpicky, yes).
Sol Ring lets you power out a four drop on turn 2, a five drop on turn 3, and so on. It massively speeds up your curve. It's like having dark ritual every turn.
Both cards are broken in half and both provide insane advantage.

Uh slightly disagree, I dont think having to discard your hand is a drawback, and with any kind of Madness; Flashback; or recursion/ re-animate it can create even more advantage, by getting those cards into the GY first. I am happy to stand by Blimpy's argument of 3x the CA of Ancestral. It is also how I would define the card.
I agree that Sol Ring does speed up your curve, and ramp and control decks are most suited to use the additional mana to its fullest. Though personally I think that Sol Ring is comparable in power to an on-colour Moxen (Im going to get a weird look for saying that though).
I think that Sol Ring is easier to counter with a high concentration of CMC1 artefact destruction spells, each colour has some CMC1 reactive or proactive strategies to counter Sol Ring. Not so with Contract, only blue has a reactive counter in the form of CS; and black has a pro-active counter in the form of hand disruption.
And with any kind of recursion Contract interacts better than Sol Ring. Like top deck Witness recurring Contract is still a 2/1 body, and draw seven, for GGB1. Same with Regowth; Timetwister; and Snapcaster Tiago, all should let you win just by the sheer volume of cards drawn.
Maybe Black Vise is a colourless thorn in the side for Contract, but even taking 2-3 damage next upkeep shouldnt keep them from winning.

Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.

It puts you two turns ahead of your opponent in turns of mana.
Another benefit is that I don't have to run a deck with black mana in it.

Pick in a few hours.
A) It's a better card and is only restricted by the heavy black cost - not a problem in this format at all.
B) Trying to scare someone out of black
