It's good with Braids, Smokestack, Skullclamp and Recurring Nightmare.
I can leave it out until there are more cards that sync with it.
Honestly, I think it has been solid in many ways just being what it is. I won a game yesterday with it because I could keep bringing it back and equipping it with a Loxodon Warhammer.
Sometimes I include cards in cube that give players creative license to do something unique. At least for our group it seems to be very enjoyable.
Drawing three cards a turn, attacking with a 2/2 flier that had vigilance was nice.
Would someone please explain this one to me? Am I right to say that when you evoke the Mulldrifter, it comes into play, and its sacrifice trigger gets put on the stack, and in response you bounce the Mulldrifter back to your hand w/ the Shard?
But then what's with the 2/2 flier w/ vigilance?
Much appreciated...
Edit: Thanks Happy Gilmore! So no evoke shenanigans... ^^

sorry, if you wait a turn, after hardcasting the Mulldrifter you can swing in, then bounce, then replay untapped.
Just cast it on your turn, draw two cards, use it to block on their turn, and then Crystal Shard it back to your hand before damage. Draw 2 extra cards per turn and get a chump-block out of it.
One of the interesting thing about cube is the amount of GREAT combos it has and people know about, yet there are some broken combos that not everyone knows about. Overall the more one knows about cube combos, the better one's deck will be so I'm interested in knowing all the combos I can know.
sacrifice outlet + Reveillark + Karmic Guide + any any ETB on any creature with power 2 or less (ie: Venser, Mulldrifter, Blade Splicer, etc), gain infinite ETB
sacrifice outlet + Reveillark clone + Reveillark in play + any ETB on any creature with power 2 or less

Triskelion + Corpse Dance. Seems super lame I know, but my friend has got this one going in my classic cube twice now, and destroyed me with it. I was playing an aggro deck that totally couldn't handle the awesome power of repeatable Forked Bolt.
When I was thinking of what kinds of responses I would get this one popped in my head. Jitte is such a fun card.
Firebrand + Pox... I assume you use her -2 to copy it? So you take a huge chunk out of people's hands, life totals, land count, and creatures.
Let's say that they're at 19 to start with (you +1'd last turn targeting them), have 4 lands, 4 cards in hand, and 2 creatures. At the end, they'd have 8 life, 1 land, 1 card in hand, and no creatures.
That's pretty brutal.

I do wish this worked more than every other turn. Wouldn't that make it very difficult to keep Nether Spirit online?
Can't you stack The Abyss trigger, resolve the Nether Spirit trigger and then resolve the Abyss trigger? The same way Nether Spirit works with Contamination? I'm pretty sure you can pay the upkeep every turn with Nether Spirit.

The problem is that The Abyss targets while Contamination does not. This also makes it really awkward for the turn after you play something like Master of the Wild Hunt or Bloodline Keeper. I still love playing The Abyss though and hope it will earn its keep.
Well that's a bit disappointing. It doesn't change much about The Abyss's performance, because most of the time it's targeting existing tokens or other recurring creatures that don't have awkward upkeep timings.
And it doesn't change the interaction with Bloodline Keeper, as that card makes its tokens at the end of my opponent's turn typically, which will still allow me to sac the token to The Abyss.

You should either merge this with the OP, or make this post the OP so that people can see the list of combos in post #1.

Channel + equipment and equip costs.
Skipping your first land drop when you're playing a reanimator deck on the draw can be sick tech.

Seismic Assualt + Meloku wins the game if you ever get to untap with both in play.
Also Thopter Foundry loves itself some Goblin Welder if you have an artifact creature to abuse such as trisk/titan/solemn/etc.
Well, Deadeye Navigator + anything, really.
I do wish this worked more than every other turn. Wouldn't that make it very difficult to keep Nether Spirit online?

Squee, Goblin Nabob + The Abyss/Smokestack/Braids, Cabal Minion is only every other turn, but Nether Spirit should be every turn.

On a related note, playing Bloodghast and Thrun, the Last Troll into a Nether Void is a good feeling.
I'll just have to combo Nether Spirit with Braids, Cabal Minion, Smokestack, Liliana of the Veil and the Pox trio instead. And every other turn with The Abyss will still be randomly valuable when my other creatures are tokens and/or recursive threats.
And it doesn't change the interaction with Bloodline Keeper, as that card makes its tokens at the end of my opponent's turn typically, which will still allow me to sac the token to The Abyss.
edit: Also, Mother of Runes + The Abyss is pretty solid.

I like these a lot, but have to point out the elephant in the room:
Wurmcoil Engine + The Abyss
What an utter beatting, sure you gotta destroy any other non-artifact creature you might control, but no biggie with a Wurm or two.
