Alright, so I sifted through my Cube, and grabbed any card that I thought would be over $1. I got all their prices off StarCityGames and added them up:
Add 300 or so additional cards at <$1 and you get ~$100. I'm also using a matching set of Invasion Basics that cost $1 each, so add $150 on top of that.
Estimated Total: $1600+
(Take into account that not all my cards are NM so this is an over estimate. And again, these are StarCity prices. But it ended up being a lot more than I thought it would be.)
I just dumped about $300 more dollars into my Cube in the latest big update. I'm closing in on $2000.

When does it end?
Just don't catch the pimp bug man. I will never be satisfied until every card in my cube is the exact version that I want. It's not the way to go, financially.
I take my cube everywhere, personally. It has become a running joke of people asking me 'Do you have your Cube?', with my standard reply of 'I ALWAYS have my Cube!'.

Mine isn't as expensive as other's, but if I wanted to play my Cube in a public place I would just proxy the whole thing.
Dunno, it just doesn't make sense to take such a risk with strangers when there is virtually no difference game-play-wise in using proxies.
edit: I intend on selling off the rest of my collection soon™. I'm going to keep my Innistrad Block Curse Deck and I plan on putting together a single deck for every block from here on out, but I just don't play enough to justify letting thousands of dollars worth of cards sit in my room. I haven't played Magic regularly for years now. My cube + block-decks-until-the-end-of-time is my exit strategy.

I bring my cube to FNM. I trusted my fellow FNMers from the start on good faith, and now we've built up a nice group of regular cubers who I'm now proud to say are my friends. I don't think I would have gotten as much interest in cube drafting at the LGS if it had just been a big box of proxies, personally.
Magic is a three way thing for me:
1. A game. I enjoy the game for what it is.
2. A pastime for the collector in me. I enjoy collecting rare and shiny cards.
3. The cool feeling I get when I play with Magic Cards. I enjoy playing with real, authentic cards, and proxies don't do it for me. I can't really explain it.
All three of those things go into why I enjoy cubing, either with my own cube, or with other people's cubes. I do enjoy playing with my own cube a little more though, which I'm sure is the case for most people.
Playijng with proxies feels like having sex with condom to me. Sure it's almost the same thing, but you could be surprised how much "almost" could make a difference.
Awhile back, I was 99% fully pimped on my 500-card multiplayer cube, tens of thousands of $$$. Since I wanted to take it to places where I didn't know everyone, I scanned it all, and had a company print the whole thing with "Magic Cube" backs (so not to be confused with the originals). Same cardstock, same size, fits the same in the same sleeves. But since most of the originals were foil, they didn't shine on the proxies; so it's not exactly the same, but dang is it still fun. And when people draft it, in sleeves, it really feels just like you're holding a signed Lotus or Beta Sapphire or a foil Jace or foil Tarmogoyf.
Of course, it also means that I can't update it without re-scanning new stuff, and re-printing. So now it's become the "Nostalgic" cube with my friends, nothing newer than Alara block, surprisingly it feels very different when drafting!

Not exactly (now if this gets too over the top, mods plz delete).
When your paying way more to get the real thing, say a couple orders of magnitude higher. You really have to weigh the pros and cons.
$10,000 for a complete cube (with CE cards for power) vs less than $150 for supplies and sleaves for proxy. That is a huge difference.
Also if I'm wearing protection I'm a lot less worried about being with others, the risks are lower. Your putting a lot on the line when you have the real thing and you don't know the individuals your playing with.
I like being a bit more free about who I play cube with. Proxies really takes the whole worry aspect out of the picture.
I have a solid group of 8-12 people I cube draft with already. Its always fun because we're all friends so we can joke around during the draft about the "typical" decks people draft. I think drafting with strangers would take away from that. Sure, it'd be fun to draft with different people who prioritize cards differently and whose skill level may be higher/lower but at the end of the day I'll stick with my best friends. And that's why my cube is almost foiled out. Because I know I can trust my buddies.
Oh, and pimping your cube is a disease. Stop now. Your wallet will thank you. (but who am I to talk? I LOVE shiny cards!)
I was happy with my latest build (after swapped out about half the cube) and I got curious and put the entire cube through Starcity:
Not including lands or sleeves, my cube is worth $1908.18
--But I've also begun selling off the rest of my collection a few weeks ago and have already made $750. That makes me feel a little better and I've only just begun selling. I guess that's what happens when you gather cards for over 18 years.
I have 4 cubes, the pauper cube is worth 10$ but the basics are unglued so aprox. 1200$ total, the c/ube is worth 1000$ with arena 2003 basic so 2000$ toital, thed modern cube is worth 5000$(100% foil) with 250 foil unhinged basics so 10 000$ total and the unpow. 540 cube is worth 7500 with korean foil ISD basics(impossible to find the price).
With RTR updates and some other purchases I am now somewhere over $1,900 knocking on $2k. And to think I decided on Peasant Cube over a rare one for the more limited-esque feel and budgetary reasons.

I write about cube and run cube drafts on magic online.
I've taken my cube out to a LGS and played with people I thought were friends, but cards were stolen. This was prior to pimping the cube, so I only lost about $50, but now my cube never leaves the home.
I was maintaining a proxy copy (mostly just the money) of the cube for a while just for cubing at the LGS, but since I don't have time to go an LGS anymore I stopped with the LGS.
Related to card value - is there a website where I can copy/paste cards and have them spit out foil values? I think deckstat only does normal copies, no?
To think that my cube is worth more than my car, possibly several times over, is ridiculous.
Power cube: 95% foil 720 cards. English and non English. I know i have promo niv, doran, serra avenger, mutavault, Japanese Ink-Eyes, Thoughtseize, judge survival and maze, Nm walk... to name a few.
Serf (common and uncommon): 95% foil full English. 720 cards

I don't think I would have a problem the card stores I go to. I made my cube a budget cube. The value of my cube is probably around $150-$200. I'm trying to keep all cards under $15. I have probably spent only $60-80 in cards I didn't already have for the cube. I have my cube set up so I have a few cards worth around $10-15 including a revised Demonic Tutor, Unlimited Wheel of Fortune, 4th ed Sylvan Library, and Misdirection. Most of my cards are $5 and under. I like the power of my cube. I have been playing since around Mirage or Tempest and have accumulated lots of cards. I have 5 revised dual lands lying around including a Underground Sea. I would rather not put those in the deck.
So I just put a new cube together and Deck Stats is listing it as roughly $350.
It's only 225, it's heavily themed, and I've stuck to all black bordered, non-foil cards with a modern frame. So that helped with the price a lot. Most of the value in the cube is from the lands. Other money cards are things like Noble Hierarch and Sublime Archangel. I gave this limitation for creative reasons, but I also wasn't going to spend money on another set of duals.
