Sounds like an instant speed Control Magic that can't be Naturalized. I'd play it in my cube though it's ultra busted.

This is an instant speed Control Magic in the same way that a counterspell is the same thing as a kill spell... not so much. The card is still pretty darn strong, of course.
No... it's more like a Desertion that costs 1UUU instead of 3UU, and can't steal artifacts. It has to target the creature as it's being cast... and that goes a long way towards having it not be an "instant speed control magic".
However, it's still super strong... but no moreso than something like Cryptic Command or Treachery.
Once again... this is the "Dream Cube Cards" thread. I'd hope everything here would be busted as can be.
Also, I'm all about this:

T Or what about "Legendary spells" that you can only play one of in a deck. That would make it possible to make a counterspell part 2 card.
I think this is a great idea!
The legendary status on a sorcery or instant wouldn't restrict it to one in a deck but would be countered if in graveyard or both countered on the stack ... something like that would be possible.

Counter target spell, then search your graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with the name Poof Aloof and exile them. Then shuffle your library.
Needs a lot of rewording but I love this card<3 I don't remember if it was my idea of someone else's.
Do we really need more counterspells for the cube?

I am petitioning for the end of: the Mythic rarity, the Planeswalker card type, the post-8th edition card faces, the 2010 rule changes, colorless cards that aren't artifacts or lands, the Legendary supertype, the stack, auras, multicolor cards, artifact creatures, tokens, goblins, merfolk, elves, sorceries, instants, and permanents. Basically, I just want to play with purple contraptions.

Martuk isn't broken - I think he's appropriately pushed for a cube-level card. Maybe he'd be better as a 6 to cast 4/4 with a green keyword of some kind.
@Essence Meld: I made a card for one of my Custom Sets that was a white Goblin Welder for enchantments. I have always loved that card for the cube.

Compare this guy to Broodmate Dragon, who is a three-color card and thus should be much more powerful than it's mono-color counterpart. This guy makes the dragon look pretty weak in comparison, which shouldn't happen....I'm all for awesome green fatties, but a six mana near-Tooth and Nail is probably a little too strong, especially since you can abuse it with cards that manipulate CITP effects.

Yes, but Martuk (or something like him) is printable because the only time he gets ridiculously strong is when he's in an environment with other ridiculously strong cards. It's like when they print a card that's really good in Legacy or Vintage and the card doesn't really have any impact on Standard. They can do that because it's the environment makes the cards powerful.
Now Martuk is probably good enough to push towards a deck being made around him in standard, but if there aren't enough of the pieces there to support him, it just won't happen.

I like spell link but is it really powerful enough for a cube? Sure, it feels delightfully Izzety, what with the switcheroo of instants and sorceries, but it costs you a card and I'm not sure counterburn can afford to play this card and lose the tempo it takes up. Perhaps it really can though, if the reusability gets out of control with the splicing.
I think you're right. The card would be really good in practice, precisely because it abandons the really insular and linear way splice was handled in the past. Also because it plays off of the power of already existing cards, which is the best way to make printable cards that have an insane and cubeable power level.

I think wtwlf123's 4cc desertion might see print if it could only counter creature spells, but even then Summoner's Bane only gives you a 2/2.
