Since I don't have any cards older than Time Spiral block, I built a cube of just Coldsnap on (basically TSP on, as coldsnap had very little to provide). While not nearly as degenerately powerful as everyone else's Cube, it's still quite fun to play, and has given my friends and I something to do from time to time. Anyway, from what we've played so far, aggro seems pretty weak, and has been mostly non-existant. Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement? Being a control player at heart, and having built this cube, I'm not honestly surprised it turned out this way, but I'm not exactly sure how to fix this problem. What kind of cards am i looking for to improve this? Cheap beats, more cheap removal? Any help is appreciated.
While I don't know what the situation is exactly for the cardpool you're dealing with, but generally having a good number of cheap beats and disruption cards (mana disruption especially) is important to aggro having a strong presence. In traditional cubes, Armageddon, Tangle Wire, Winter Orb, Manabarbs, Wasteland, Rishadan Port, and Plow Under are all examples of cards that can give the aggro deck the needed time it requires to get in there for the kill. You could use cards like Boom/Bust, the afromentioned 'Barbs, Threaten, etc to help the aggressive decks. I'm sure there are plenty of options available, even with that pool, but it might require you to cut expensive bombs you enjoy playing for more generic, but necessary, curve-filling beaters.
Thanks, those are quality suggestions. Manabarbs and Threaten are already in the pool actually, but boom//bust is a good idea. I guess I may just have to bite the bullet and cut out some mass removal/bombs for some vanilla beats.
* Make sure the finishers you provide are better suited to aggro than control.
Good - Tromp the Domains Bad - Disintegrate
* Keep the amount of life gain down.
* Keep the number and power level of board-sweepers down.
* Make sure that combat tricks are either super devastating (Stonewood Invocation) or cantrips (Wildsize).
more cheap removal?
No! That's terrible news for aggro decks!

aggro only works if you add old cards, you need a lot of cheap creatures and a lot of efficient burn
That's as likely to hurt aggro as help it - this isn't Constructed!

Well, things like Lightning Bolt, Incinerate, Volcanic Hammer, Arc Lightning, etc. are all great for both aggro and control decks, for obvious different reasons. However, there are things like Fireblast and Pyrokinesis that are really at their best in aggro decks, but the only reason they're cheap is because they're free.
Not getting any responses so I'll expand my request for how to increase the combo quotient of the cube.
Built a high power level cube, but aggro/control are alittle too dominant of strategies compared to combo. Any advice on this issue or any other that you see(inlcuding missing cards you think are really fun/cool for any reason) would be appreciated.

The obvious approach would be to add more tutors and more card selection (but not card draw) tools.
Cards like Privileged Position that can protect combo pieces are also good.

I think more actual combos are needed first. There really isn't that many playable tutors in magic. I got demonic/vamp/enlightened/mystic, then selection tools like scroll rack, gift's ungiven, brainstorm, impulse, ponder. Could add imperial seal, intuition and lim dul's vault... maybe grim tutor if I want to proxy it. So many people would ask me what imperial seal did since its not english or common.. I would probably get annoyed by that =P Already had some noobs asking what mana vault, and balance did and what textless mortify and pyroclasm did..
Maybe some infinite mana/life/damage combos, or even some more really annoying stuff like gildeddrake + crystal shard.
Maybe rings of the birthrite + timevault.. idk.. Timevault is pretty bad tho outside of the combo, not like salvagers which can recur bombs over and over for CA and block.
Protection for pieces might be useful but privalged position is mega weak in this cube would be bottom 5 card out of the 500 and almost always go 15th, and there isn't that much artifact/enchantment hate anyways.
Doubleposting it with my average, weak CUBE. Laugh/comment/suggest/change it, please. My finals week is almost over, so I can do some real overhauling...
Good to see the landcyclers in there - might be worth investing in one each of the Ravnica dual lands so that they can act as targets for the landcyclers? Improves manafixing somewhat.
My one complaint would be that your Blue looks too good and your White too weak. That is: you've kept WotC's unfortunate colour bias! Possibly stuff like Mistral Charger is intended to make a beatdown deck possible, but it's really not going to happen.

If, after, Christmas shopping, I can grab one of each cheap, they're straight in. Artifact lands are doing squat for me.
Hm. Is Blue too powerful in comparison to all other colors, and is White too weak in comparison to all other colors? That is, to say, what should be cut from blue or added to white to balance? I'm trying to maintain a number of creatures divisible by 5 in my OCD manner >_>
What sort of power white creatures/spells could I put in/what would I swap out? How could I wean blue? Suggestions and advice are dearly welcomed.
Good For Combo (I didnt check what you had)-
Squee
Daemonic Tutor
Recurring Nightmare + a palinchron
Buried Alive
Tinker
Crucible of the World/Life from Loam
Seismic Assault/Stormbind (The latter more versatile)
Gifts Ungiven
Academy Ruins/Goblin Welder
Living Death
Spike Weaver/Moment's Peace/Steel Wall (To give combo time).
The closest I usually draft to combo are usually gift rock types of decks with a reanimation theme.
Just a general question to all you CUBErs, what kind of split per color (ignoring artifacts and gold) do you use between creature spells and noncreature spells? Currently, my CUBE is 360 cards large (48-48-48-48-48-50-35-35, WUBRGAML), and I usually go for something between 1/2 and 5/8 creatures, the other 1/2 to 3/8 noncreature.
Volrath's Stronghold + Shriekmaw, Mulldrifter, or any other evoke creature is quite nasty. I just pulled Volrath's + Shriekmaw in a draft in which I went U/B Control. Damnation was a hose as well in one game; I then used Volrath to get back my Nosferatu and swung for the win. It was good times.
Just recently, I added cards to my CUBE to make it 360 cards large (enough for an 8-man), and I drafted an insanely funny B/G deck. Imprinting Overrun and Harmonize on your Panoptic Mirror is loads of fun. Also, I had a random Tatsumasa, the Dragon's Fang in there, to keep my Phantom Nantuko alive. (My bro had pinged it with Prodigal Pyromancer to 0 counters, and it had attacked, so I couldn't boost it again. He then Fury Charms the Fang. >_<)
Also, I drafted a U/R deck the other day involving a lot of burn and Mind's Desire. I had limited mana, so I went with Desire on a storm count of 1 (2 total playings). I had about 6 outs in my deck from a deck of 22 cards, so I was riding the wind. The first card was an Island. The second card, which I rip ceremoniously, is a Counterspell. >_>
For the record, I do something like 1/2 creatures on blue, and as high as 2/3 on white and green.
How much money is a cube going to set me back? I have onyl been playing a few years but have around 7000 rares or so...(only around 10k c/unc lol) so i really want one but need to know what kind of investment im looking at.

It really depends what you want in your cube, and if you care about playing with proxies. It also depends on what you have. If those rares are mainly just jank limited rares it's going to be harder to make a cube as opposed as to if they're mainly constructed quality.
Keep in mind you don't have to have a ridiculously powerful cube to make it fun to play. A cube balances itself by what cards you put in it.
Hi all : Im a french Cube player and owner. We call it Wagic in France.
I tried to keep my cube color balanced but i didn'tmanage to reduce the nulmber of bluecards enough to do it. They are so good.
My Cube actually is 935 cards, divided that way :
Golds 100
Lands + Joker 102
Artefacts 115
Green 122
White 122
Red 122
Black 122
Blue 130

Cards like Privileged Position that can protect combo pieces are also good.

Sorry it isn't any cleaner, but...hard to make it accept a deck-format. >_> Comments, please.

Crucible of the World/Life from Loam
Seismic Assault/Stormbind (The latter more versatile)

Academy Ruins/Goblin Welder
Living Death
Spike Weaver/Moment's Peace/Steel Wall (To give combo time).
The closest I usually draft to combo are usually gift rock types of decks with a reanimation theme.

My
540> 360 Powered CubeThoughts?
[GTC] Gatecrash Patch for MWS (249/249)
[GTC] Gatecrash Patch for MWS (249/249)
60 of each color
-30 creatures/30 spells each for Red, Black, and White
-20 creatures/40 spells for Blue
-40 creatures/20 spells for Green
35 Artifacts
35 Land
40 Gold (3 of each color combo and 10 tri-color+)
It puts me over the 360 mark which is nice cause if I start up an 8-man it still has variation from time to time as not all the cards get used.
Just some thoughts.
Yes i am the same guy who trades/sells on MOTL AND Wizards of the Coast and i trade on POJO.
I tried to keep my cube color balanced but i didn'tmanage to reduce the nulmber of bluecards enough to do it. They are so good.
My Cube actually is 935 cards, divided that way :
Golds 100
Lands + Joker 102
Artefacts 115
Green 122
White 122
Red 122
Black 122
Blue 130
In this link, you can find somepictures ofmy cube : http://s263.photobucket.com/albums/ii128/NeonicoCL/Wagic-Cube/?albumview=slideshow
Here's my cube list :
102 Lands Cards
120 Artefacts Cards
100 Gold Cards
122 Green Cards
130 Blue Cards
122 White Cards
122 Black Cards
122 Red Cards
And some pictures of my Cube :
I'll have to scan my latest pimp acquisitions and my latest addition to my list a&s soon as i get my camera back.
