I have seen this argument a lot and its incredibly flawed. No one knows what would happen if it was not based on the electoral college as the campaigns would have been run radically differently people in states that are not swing states who don't vote due to seeing it as useless might all the sudden vote money would have went to different areas adds ran in different places to say you know how it would be if it was another system is simply wrong. In fact the candidates themselves may have been different if it was a different system than what we have you simply cannot know. I personally know people in California that did not vote because there is no point to them because they live in California . I can see you wanting a different system but to make any assumption about this election after the fact assuming things were different is pure conjecture.
I don't disagree. If we were to ever abolish the electoral college (we won't), you're right. Campaign tactics would be completely different as candidates would need to appeal to more people and demographics across the nation. As is, someone like Trump only has to appeal the the white conservative Christians in Tennessee that are tired of having a liberal black man for their president. He doesn't need to appeal to me and others of my belief structure in that same state because our votes legitimately do not matter and he knows that. That's all because of the outdated electoral college system. Sometimes it works out for the candidates and sometimes it doesn't. Trump tried to appeal to the poor coal mining towns of Virginia to win that state, but Hillary still won. That was honestly a surprise to me considering how heavily he was supported in southwest Virginia, where I have family who are actual coal miners.
I think the worst things about the American democracy is voter suppression laws (masqued as something else like voter fraud insurance). And that convicts can't vote - that just seems completely undemocratic to me. And Citizen's United - money needs to be separated from politics.

That doesn't make it better. This shouldn't be the case anywhere for any reason. It's not a partisan issue. It's a voter suppression issue and a strength of voice manipulation issue. Similar to Gerrymandering, which also needs to go. 1 vote should equal 1 vote, regardless of district, state or economic position.
You are 100% right that things could be wildly different. From campaign strategies to polling... to even the candidates! But that doesn't mean that the current system is the only way to do it, or even the right way to do it.
Moxnix is right, but that doesn't make it any less troubling that thanks to America's archaic method of selecting presidents, 2 of the last 3 presidents have been candidates who did not win the popular vote. However, it's incredibly hard to amend the Constitution, and it's impossible to imagine the GOP-led Congress even considering trying it, much less getting a 2/3 majority so we're pretty much stuck with it.
We're in for a rough 4 years, but I am very heartened by the fact that people are not taking this lying down.
And Citizen's United - money needs to be separated from politics.
This is one of the weird silver linings, as rich as Trump is, he didn't outspend his rivals in the primary or the general election. In fact, during the primary some of the candidates who spent the most like Jeb Bush performed abysmally. Social media appears to be a game changer, I just wish someone less horrifying had figured out how to make this work this year.

Anyone else on here from Northern Ireland or Ireland? I'm looking to expand my drafting group as I only know 3 others who can draft and can seem to manage to get more than 2 of them into the same room. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of LGSs in my area (there was one I pre-released at before but it closed).
Not currently. They got rid of the dark skin because apparently it was a hassle to maintain two skins and not many people were using it. There's a thread over in the community forum about the change. I'd like it a lot if they just give me the dark forum skin back.
Ad-Block Plus kept those sidebar ads out of my face, so that change doesn't really affect me. I actually like the look of the fonts in the posts and the buttons. I don't even mind the layout not extending to my full screen. I just want my dark forum skin back.
I actually kind of like it to be honest. I didn't mind the old one though, so if they end up going back that won't bother me either.
I'm with you. I've been on forums since 2001, and every time there's a change, people flip for about three days, then get over it. I just skip the first part of that now.

I can't say I'm pleased to see you and must warn you I may have to do something about it.

I'm mostly retired as far as Cube goes, but I still follow the printing of new cards and play my occasional MTGO Cube draft (or even play Cube in real life, when all the stars align).
I feel discussions here are less heated now that there are so many different powerful choices for Cube managers. It is more and more obvious that there is no 'right' or 'wrong' choice, just different choices that may lead to different results. That said, Absorb would be the wrong choice, obviously.
I see a surprising amount of familiar avatars still kicking around. Haven't looked at a Magic card in a very long while and am completely out of the loop. But looking at that current spoiler there seems to be no shortage of new cube fodder...
So how are things? How's cube?
Is Absorb finally dead?
Long time since last.
I've finally cat my Absorb a few years back. Even to the point where I think I sold my foil copy... Some things do change.
Good to see you're still well, BK. Sorry to hear about the lack of Magic (and cube especially) in your life, but sounds like you've found a nice replacement.
It will be while until it hits the stores. It's a rewrite and expansion on an old book about the care of leopard, fat-tailed, banded, and related geckos. I updated the info and added about 30,000 words to it.

Ya, they finally printed good WU cards, so the Absorb topic is dead at last.
