When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought Omenspeaker was good when I read it. I like the card quite a bit. I'd still rather have a blue Wall of Blossoms (I think Scry 2 is worth 1, but not a card) but that day likely won't come. So until then, I get a sweet scrying Brass Man in blue. I'll likely be testing it.
It's fine if a card is uncubeable, since there's already tons of card like that. But having a weak card with pure win flavor like this set is better for me than reading weak card that's just end up as fodder as a whole.
We still have quite a bit of cards to see, it's likely we won't be getting a better bestow creature than the ones we've seen until Born of the Gods comes out (bestow is a block mechanic right?). Thassa as the only god that was a slam dunk. We still have 10 to see in the rest of the block so fingers crossed to get a couple more highly cubeable gods. Hoping for some good commons and uncommons all around too.
WTF is going on with reaper of the wild? I see the 4/5 for 4 mana, and I likey. Then I see when a creature dies scry, awesome, looks like a good setup for some Rock shenanigans.
Then two abilities that I don't want to have to pay extra for. I want stuff that ties into the scry ability.
If the scry was like 3, fine, death touch sounds pretty cool, but hex proof? huh? Why not lure effect, or regeneration?

If horizon chimera was a 3/3 I would definitely be testing it (despite the trample and lifegain being pretty irrelevant. I'm really trying to indicate U/G tempo/flash is a deck.
Agreed. At U, I'm over the moon. At 1U, I'm not even considering the card.
At U that would be a better Force Spike. I don't know if Force Spike + Scry 1 for 1U is worth it though just because I am not sure Force Spike is worth it at 1U. How often are people casting Daze and not returning an island to their hand?

Daze's upside of being free sometimes is way bigger than Scy 1. And even this doesn't make Daze a staple, it just is a decent cube card.
I can see that it would be hard to balance for R&D. Make it a better Force Spike? Could be too strong in certain formats.Make it counter if they cannot play 2? Definetely too strong for a modern counterspell.

Scry 2 would not be too good. Still strictly worse than Condescend, which is also hardly too good.
Have to disagree there.
"1U, counter target spell if opponent doesn't pay 2, scry 1" sounds perfectly reasonable. But yeah, "New World Order" aka "Everything that's wrong with Magic today" forbids playable counterspells outside of the rare slot.
The actual card is pretty bad. There is room for a card to be worse than Condescend and still be cubable, but this card is too far away. Scry 3 might have done the trick.
Oh, I don't think we disagree at all. That card would be totally ok in my book, but counters need to nerved these days to be printable it seems.
I am bummed we didn't get to see a finish to the 1 CMC 2/1 "cycle," but I am hoping this just means the U and G one will show up in other sets and not that it's not a cycle.
We didn't get the big enchantment creature we were hoping for, but a lot of other goodies. Some great one-drops, my green and black 3-drops are reinforced, a new PW killer, and a couple of the God cards might turn out well. Overall a very good set.

I am really excited for Thassa, and I think the red god has a shot as well. Not to keen on the other three.
