Unsure if this belongs here or in a different thread, since it's technically speculation, but it was confirmed by a global mod. Apparently this is the Theros preview from Heroes vs Monsters:
Polukranos 2GG
5/5
Monstrosity - xxG: put X +1/+1 counters on Polukranos and deal damage equal to counters put onto Polukranos this way divided as you choose... You may use this ability only once. (ability word like domain, what matters is the only once clause, the effect should change from card to card.)
I assume the "once" refers to it being after resolving? (so that if you bounce/blink it, you can do it again) Either way, thoughts?
So you pay 4 mana for a 5/5 and then next turn, you pay 5 mana, turn it into a 7/7 and get a Forked Bolt?
It's decent, but not spectacular. Kinda like Deadbridge Goliath.
That's not the green God creature, is it?
..........
Apparently, there's also a 3/2 first strike, vigilance creature for 1RW with another ability that's useless in cube (+1/+1 and trample for your whole team when you target him with one of your spells). Pass on him too.
Green Direct damage? That seems incredibly fake. On second thought, it does come from a creature and is fairly slow, but... doesn't feel right and doesn't feel like something Mark Rosewater would want in his set.
I know I might be in the minority but I would kill for green direct damage. I've been hoping for a really good bee sting, like maybe even straight up shock.
It could be 'fights' rather than 'deals damage to...'. There was some uncertainty about that in the original spoiling. It's a pretty good card nonetheless but I'll likely pass.

There's ongoing nit-picking on how it specifically works. I'd like to see a legit card revealed. I think it's plausible to be direct damage like this. Something to that effect therefore exists as precedent. The "fights something on the table" exists as well, as we all know Garruk (essentially fighting) and Ulvenwald Tracker-effects with dedicated "fights target".

It hits multiple targets? hmm that's spicy and probably changes my outlook a bit. I still want to see the finished product but if it can fight multiple targets, that's value right there.

Any thoughts on this baseless preview? I didn't read through all the pages of the thread to see if it was debunked.
Some Boros guy 1WR
Legendary
3/2
first strike, vigilance
Heroic - Whenever cardname is the target of a spell you control, creatures you control get +1/+1, and gain trample until end of turn.
Trample is a weird ability...wouldn't vigilance or first strike be better? Red and white don't have too many positive cheap spells for creatures either...reckless charge, Angelic Destiny - most of the cheap RW spells are removal.
I posted that card above. The Heroic ability is useless in the cube; there are almost no spells that target your own creatures. I'm not playing a 3cc multicolor creature just for decent stats alone.

I agree and I play more pumps than most. It is also a none-bo with bloodrush. We can only hope that something is missing in the spoiling otherwise these mechanics are pretty weak.
Now if it was"whenever cardname is the target of anything all , then..." it would be sweet. But I suppose that would be broken with creatures that have a 0 targeted activation cost.
I'll have to see the final wording, but that hydra looks good. Green removal is awesome, he can nuke chumps and get big. And green is the ramp color, so he could potentially take down something substantial.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.
Well, it depends on how it's worded. If it's X damage, I won't be playing it. Getting a Forked Bolt is cool and all, but it's a 9-mana investment before you get that 2 damage. The body is certainly significant that it leaves behind, but it can be killed by a lot of cube removal before being able to do it.
However, if it's worded the other way people are speculating (where it can fight up to X creatures instead) it can be a super significant ability, because you can be nuking Titans and getting a 7/7 body left behind. That's much more worthy of the total mana investment and/or the risk of getting blown up before doing anything.

According to the current spoiler:
"Put X +1/+1 counters on Polukranos. Then, Polukranos deals damage equal to the number of counters put onto Polukranos this way among any number of target creatures. Those creatures deal damage to Polukranos equal to their power. Activate this ability only if there are no counters on Polukranos."
Assuming it's the correct wording, you basically get a one-sided Pyroclasm.

My apologies, children, for I am afraid I cannot save you all.
If that's how that hydra ends up, it's really disappointing. Also, Monstrosity and Heroic don't thrill me. They seem very clunky. It's hard to tell what the abilities will do on other creatures, so I'll try to remain optimistic.
So if you spend 5, he A) deals 2 damage to one creature, or 1 damage to two creatures, or B) deals 2 damage to any number of creatures? If it's the latter, that's not bad. The former is pretty awful. I'll probably pass anyway.
Maybe I'm alone in liking Monstrosity. One-use effects are pretty rare in cube. Heroic is one of those mechanics that is not going to play well in our little format, but Monstrosity (wow, that's a pain to type every time) has serious potential.
Honestly, it's a decent creature in ramp or midrange decks. Throw it out there as a 5/5 for 4 (which isn't terrible, but isn't exciting either) and wait on it until you can wipe their board and swing in with a very large creature.
The problem is - it has no defense, so you can't rely on it to be a board wipe. It's really just another midrange creature with a large upside once you already have control of the board. Because of the amount of mana it takes, it's kind of a win-more. The kinds of decks that would really get hosed by it probably have you dead to rights before you can use it profitably.
As far as similar creatures though, I'd rather just run with Hornet Queen, which also stalls out your opponent's board. Pretty much the only upside is that is can come out on T4 if you really need a blocker.

Monstrosity leaves room for a lot of "kicker"-esque creatures. Any good one/two drops that can regain value in the late game sound very appealing to me. Rather than having to wait till you get the extra mana to kick it, you get the utility of the early drop AND its super-sized version.
