Ever wondered what a cube would look like with only promo cards?
Well here it is, I present to you guys the promo cube! http://cubetutor.com/visualspoiler/3040
I didn't want to post this in the cube list section because it's technically not a real cube and is a bit unbalanced albeit very pretty. But it is surprisingly playable for a cube of only promos.
Also let me know if you guys want me to include things like FTV and such, afterall I have already included the alternate art cards from duel decks. And I will maintain this as more promos come out from FNM, pre-release and game days.
Very cool, alot of these promos i didn't even know existed!
Couple of things I noticed:
There are 2 path to exile in your cube.
There are 2 lingering souls in your cube.
There are 2 thirst for knowledge in your cube.
That looks like a regular skinrender, not the promo version.
Should use the judge promo demonic tutor rather than the duel decks one.
Theres a promo jackal pup and a fire and lightning premium deck jackal pup, didn't see either of those in this cube.
That looks like a regular scavenging ooze, not the promo version.
There are 2 ajani vengeant in your cube.
Ratchet bomb is the regular version, not the promo.
Should add FTV strip mine, judge foil maze of ith, FTV murmuring bosk and judge foil thawing glaciers. And maybe a stack of different promo basics.
I know there are a few duplicates in there, I'm not going to change it as I still consider both of them promos. And for the non-promos I've made note of them on the cube blog, as of right now the promo version is not available and I will update them as they become available. In addition both fire/ice and life/death from the golgari vs izzet duel deck aren't in their alternate art state either.
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less." -Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass
Have a helicopter drop you off out front. Light your cigar with a small Indonesian boy holding a black lotus. Then bust out a craw wurm deck with no sleeves. Raw dog shuffle, loose terribly, flip the table, leave in a hovercraft.
Couldn't you say the all-foil decks (slivers, goblins, elves) are 'promo'?
Squadron Hawk is kind of bad as a singleton. So is Spellstutter sprite. And Surgical Extraction and cloudpost.
Snuff Out and a number of other cards were only in booster packs or duel decks. If you're counting duel decks there's a lot of cards you could add in, including a lot of fixing.
You're missing old-face promos including sword of fire and ice, dark confident and muscle sliver.
I've had a promo cube for ~5 years now. The guidelines I follow are:
1. No duplicates
2. A "promo" has to be a card that cannot be opened in a regular pack of cards
3. Every promo makes the cut weather it's good/bad etc doesn't matter
4. All of the pre made decks vs decks etc would be too many cards, so I only allow foiled cards from the special pre made releases
It's hard to try and keep up with the rate that Wizards prints promos. I try and get as many as I can as soon as I can. Usually when I trade, I ask to see any promo cards someone might have. I prioritize quantity of unique promos over quality. The more rare promos get expensive and it is rare that I am able to add $100 + promos. I usually add 2-3 of the expenve ones a year.
Obviously this cube continues to grow larger and larger. Currently I have it in a "1000" count white box sleeved and it needs to find a larger box.

Everyone has their own rules. I allow duplicates and only really like promos with alternate art so I don't ever actually want the ones with different frames. I'm also not adding in judge foils because of the rarity and pricing of it all. And unfortunately I don't have the physical cube yet, but I'm working towards getting all of it.
I have a real promo cube, and I love the idea, but it seems like this cube only have 151 cards, has some cards that don't have any synergies what-so-ever, and some of the cards aren't promos, just alternate arts. Also, there is not much of a balance for power level, where there is a possibility for a quite powerful cube with only promos. Keep up the great work though!
Talk about pimped out. I personally value special release cards (ie promos) over pack foils, just because they can't be attained in regular packs. I personally also prefer pre-release, game day, and release cards -- puts a date of the release of a card. I've promo'ed about 40% of my cube, but I also consider premium decks and FTV cards as "promos".
Good luck with your cube, I look forward in seeing updates.

Interesting how there is an excess o multicolour and a shortage of fixing lands.
