I have been wanting to build a cube but I'm not a fan of drafts. So I was wondering what people think of this as a cube play idea. It's design is inspired in how I started playing as a kid. We had a shared pool of cards and would build new decks on the spot from the collection.
Casual Barter Cube.
Sealed Variant.
20 minute preliminary build (to sort and get rough deck ideas for barter section)
Barter section:
Starting with a randomly selected player he/she offers 0-5 cards from thier pool as the FT Group.
Each player may offer any number of cards to trade for the FT Group. This process continues until no player offers a trade or a trade is accepted.
The Barter section is complete when each player offers 0 cards as their FT Group or all players have received no offers on their FT Group in sequence.
30 minute build. (to finish deck building with bartered cards)
I have no idea what an FT Group is (for-trade group?), but I understand the concept notwithstanding. It sounds interesting, but seems like you'd spend waaaay too much time in the "draft", especially with 8 players, and there's way too much luck-of-the-draw in your initial pool for my taste. I guess as a "sealed" variant and not a draft variant, this is okay.
I'd suggest looking up Winston and Market drafting for a different limited experience.
Agreed, 20 minutes, plus trading (10-20 minutes?), then 30mins build time is a LONG time. We usually take maybe 15-20 minutes to draft, 5-10 minutes to build. Maybe 15 to build a sealed pool.

Then round Robin Play or normal tournament setup.
