I'm always looking for small things to pimp my Cube "experience" -- something my drafters will think is cool that will elevate their draft experience. For instance, these are some things I've done to upgrade the experience. (nothing out of the ordinary)
6 foot giant playmats that cover the entire table
Full set of token cards, sleeved to the colors of the tokens
Cube Vault to hold the Cube
Set of draft order cards (Antiquities-era artifact cards with casting costs from -10)
What other things have you done to elevate the experience of your draft? Deck holders? Uniform set of spindowns for life tracking? Pimped +1/+1 tokens?
I don't think the experience needs to be "pimped" so to speak. I do have a few really cool play mats that I like quite a bit (Eternal Weekend Lotus Petal, SCG Tasipurr, signed Doug Schuler Hippy) and would like to get to eight of them for cube nights. I also pimp my tokens as much as possible now that we have foils available. Outside of that, the best thing you can do to make cube night as "pimp" as possible is to just have as much fun as possible. We had cube night this past Saturday and, honestly, it was one of the best days of November for me. All of us went out to lunch together for wings and beers before coming back to my place for cube. We ran one 8-man draft with the full add-on package in (Storm, Conspiracies, Un-cards). We ran a peasant cube draft. After some people had to leave, we reshuffled and ran a 4-man draft. My wife made us some dessert. We drank beers and just enjoyed playing this game we love with the people we love playing it with the most. It was as "pimp" as cube night can get.
The first time they draft the cube, they sign a basic land from their deck. This land stays in the cube's basic land pool. Thus, they are forever apart of your cube's history.
For my graveyard themed cube, the box is coffin shaped. It used to be an Innistrad cube that we drafted in packs of 13 cards. I also printed off a bunch of paper with occult/satanic symbols and writing, "aged" it by soaking it in tea and then microwaving it to dry it, and then using it to wrap the packs.
I have a big 6-foot playmat that the winner signs each time. It's a fun tradition, but I wish I had gotten a nicer mat. Those 6-foot mats are hard to find though without some lame art on them. I'd love to be able to get one custom made with a cool graphic on it, or just a black one people could sign in silver pen.
